If you know, you know—this spot is an instant classic and the OG for satisfying vegetarian food on the go. For just $9 you get a full meal with rice and 3 curries! They also have great samosas, desserts, and chai. This spot has been holding it down for over 30 years. Pro tips: greet them with Wahe Guru/Sat Nam, wash your hands in the back before eating, if you want to enjoy at home get no rice, more curry and make rice at home (enough for 2 meals). If you sit by the orange water jug there is an outlet to charge your phone while you eat. Simply the quickest, best and cheapest vegetarian food in NYC. #nycfood #nycfoodie #vegetarian #cheapeats #sikh

"Sometimes I Feel Like Manto" is a new one on the Veena album, produced by Sid Vashi. I've rapped about Partition a little bit in the past but this is a sincere effort to speak on the generational trauma passed down in our families from the horrific events of those times. We filmed in front of Punjabi Deli, which has its own significance to me. In 2015, along with Ali Najmi and a few others, we were able to petition the city to speed up construction in front of the deli and add a taxi relief stand nearby so the deli would stay open facing financial trouble and so taxi workers wouldn't get tickets for parking illegally. This is what the music is for - a real change on the ground in New York City. Similarly in 2012, we used the Nehru Jackets mixtape to raise awareness on gerrymandering in Richmond Hill and South Ozone Park. The result wasn't exactly what we wanted, but we saw City Council District 23 unite Richmond Hill with Bellerose as a community of predominantly South Asians. "A nation divided, my people they riot I ask my dad why my grandmas so quiet I ask my mom why my grandmas not smiling I ask my therapist why I’m always wilding" #newmusic #hiphop #desi #rapmusic #punjabi #partition #history #trauma

Well here we goā˜¹ļøI just discovered this 3/4 days ago while googling & had very high hopes that it will be the best Punjabi food as majority of the reviews were very good but sadly it was my first & last trip. I can’t go back. First it’s very tiny, skimpy deli once u enter u can’t move n can’t see selection. You’re in each other’s face. I was aware of it that it will be claustrophobic so no surprise. If the food was great as everyone was writing praises I will overlook everything else. Space ambiance etc. I am a Punjabi female n know a-z about Punjabi food. I make the best curries paratha etc. The food I purchased this afternoon was disgusting zero taste whatsoever. It must be atleast 2 days old. It was all dried up. The guy didn’t heat up properly in the microwave. I took the 2 vegetable combo with horrible rotten taste couldn’t taste any spices n also food was served stale and cold. There was no freshness. 2 alu paranthas which were cooked earlier n didn’t bother heating them. Alo tiki served cold. Didn’t even try to heat up. Desserts were stale as well. Laddo and gulab jamun all super dry n few days stale for sure. Maybe it’s Sunday & they just sell leftovers from the past week. As I asked certain items were sold out. So I am very disappointed n will stick with my own cooking and never will be back here. One Indian restaurant I recently discovered about two weeks ago which has similar prices but their food is really fresh. They make paratha right in front of you not cooked before n microwave it. Fresh vegetables. The name is raja sweets and fast foods in Jackson heights. It’s a sit down restaurant not fancy but great fresh food. That really tastes home made. Price is similar but much bigger space & very tasty food. It’s so worth to make the trip. I wasted my money at Punjabi deli today as I had to throw the stale food. People working there were not rude but wish food was good! Sorry it is...

Loveeeee this spot! Definitely a wonderful ā€œhidden gemā€ as a previous reviewer stated. I was fortunate to have an acquaintance recommended the place to me. If you didn’t know it was there, you could easily walk by and miss it! Where in NYC can you get such a fast, delicious, quality Indian meal like this for under $10?! The food fills you up. They are very generous with their prices. MOST items are vegan but some use dairy like yogurt so make sure to ask when picking your curries, etc. Victor is especially personable. He always makes sure to say hello and takes extra steps to provide warm hospitable service. I became a quick regular and don’t mind traveling sometimes over half an hour on the subway to get there. I usually get a large plate and extra sides to take home so I can eat the food throughout the week.

I actually enjoy the community-like feel of standing while eating with others along the wall table. They have all these wonderful photos up to look at as well of the staff and food and events. The food tastes fresh is actually better quality than many Indian restaurants I’ve been too which charge double to 4x the price for the same dish. They change of some of the hot bar items which is cool. I do wish there was a way the food could be warmed without microwaving the plastic however...but apart from that. No complaints! You will have your food in less than 5 minutes, sometimes sooner and it’s served with a smile. If I was in college in the area, I’d go there almost everyday. Great for people strapped for cash looking for a filling and healthy meal. Keep it up guys and thanks for spreading plant based food...

Punjabi Grocery & Deli serves up vegetarian curries, samosas, chai teas and more to cab drivers on break and residents looking for wallet-friendly eats without meats! the interior is very narrow, contains a ledge you can stand at and eat. the rest of the interior is taken up with various snacks lining the sides and the hot food area where you order/choose your eats. the interior is fairly clean considering the foot traffic.

stopped by here wanting a quick dinner to go. there are two basic choices: 1) small rice with two veggie choices for $6 2) a large plate with three veggie choices for $8. got a large plate so i’d have leftovers. i got saag (spinach); bitter melon; and chickpeas. was pretty satisfied and the veggie curries are flavorful and filling. you can’t beat this price for vegetarian eats in the area. plus the samosas and the rotis are great side items with a large plate order. basically all the foods are in heating trays and get reheated in a microwave if you want…i opt to reheat at home bc I always order takeout not dine-in.

service is friendly. waits really depend on the occasional...
