I came here on a Tuesday (tonight) the restaraunt wasn’t overly busy but the blonde tattooed server apparently was. From the start we couldn’t get her attention, when we finally did she rushed our order and didn’t listen to me when I asked for the large portion of sushi. To be honest she was very passive aggressive with us and never asked for my drink order. Then when my food arrived It was only the small portion and I explained to her I asked for the larger portion of ten pieces (which I had the last time I was here and loved). She then rudely exclaimed “we do five piece sushi and have done for the past five years” . I ended up ordering another portion of sushi and a drink from the host. The blonde server then brought down my second portion of sushi when I asked for more of the spicy sauce she snapped at me and said the sauce is under the sushi and I had to explain to her I was only asking for extra sauce. She took almost ten minute to retrieve with the sauce, at this stage I was tempted to go back down to the kitchen myself and retrieve. We noticed her snapping at the tables around us. I know we can all have a bad day but having worked in the service industry myself this is never an appropriate way to speak and act to customers. Such a pitty because have been here before and had a great experience and...
Read moreCute spot, decent service. A bit on the pricey side for quality of food, which I notice the owner says it is due to inflation (yes, yes we know, we just want to provide our opinion/review). For appetizer, we ordered a crispy pork belly bao, which was overcooked and definitely not crispy. In addition, the bao was garnished with an oversized chunky block of cucumber. It was not enjoyable to eat and what a waste of a pork belly! My husband got the Hawaiian fried chicken rice bowl, which was ok. It is honestly hard to mess this up with the simple ingredients of the dish. I got the Yao Yao Ramen serve in a really small bowl, on initial presentation looked yummy. The tonkotsu broth was a disappointment in flavor and the temperature at which it was served. I do have to say the quality of the ramen noodle was quite good! As some other customers stated in their reviews, this establishment probably ok for White folks and would not recommend if you are Asian. I am sure the owner will have some rebuttal to my review, like they did to many others on here. However, this review is an honest opinion of my dining experience and coming from a sincere place. Wishing this small business and neighborhood restaurant...
Read moreTo say that the Yao Yao Ramen at Suzume is delicious is an understatement. As a self-professed Ramen snob, I was eager to taste the dish which has received such high praise in other reviews. It is the best Ramen I have eaten in NY, and one of my top 3 Ramen pics of all time (which includes my 2 month tour in Tokyo searching for the perfect bowl of Ramen). When prepared properly, Ramen transforms from a simple broth with noodles and vegetables into an almost religious experience. Chef Joshua skillfully produced the latter. Each bite simultaneously stimulated my senses and soothed my soul. The thoughtfullness and care that he puts into choosing his ingredients is evident. They play with each other exquisitely, and by the end of the meal caused what I can only describe as an out of body experience of bliss. The restaurant itself is cozy and intimate with a great vibe, lovely staff, yummy cocktails, and is 100% worth the wait (they do not currently take reservations and justifiably get quite busy on weekends). The menu is not limited to just Ramen, and every dish we tried has been as pleasing to the eye and palette...
