Tacombi — Restaurant in New York

I have about 25 yrs of experience in the hospitality industry. was a restaurant manager, banquet captain line cooks server u name it done it. also trained new staff and helped open 4 new restaurants in my career. even worked at the Mark restaurant.

last night went bad due to one server named Erica. we brought to here attention some shrimp tacos that did not look appealing. inquiring about ingredients. server Erica belittled my company saying that "everything I said is in there", so my guest explained that I don't see it does not look like the tacos I'm used to eating. server erica said "they not supposed to look the same everywhere". and that my guest "should not request her the way she did because she was doing something at the moment and that was rude". this is when I interjected! "Excuse me you do not speak to guest like that!" you supposed to rectify any situation, so I asked for her name when she replied, "I'm not going to give you my name" "I don't have to give it to you". that's when I requested to speak to the manager. explained what has occurred and that isn't eric in violation of company policy by not identifying herself. I believe race played a part. we all Latinos would she have belittled my guest had she been white? hmm there might be a "telltale sign" in the 1-star reviews of rude staff. unfortunately, it was not a 1st but hopefully the last.

aside from the issue as far as a server goes, she did not display the proper basic server steps (7 steps of service) nor a sense of urgency. saw erica casually walk over a to-go order.

I usually go to queens, BK or the one near Bowling green. not sure will be returning to this location anytime soon.

Lets start from the beginning. We had a 7:00 reservation for 10 people and 4 of us arrived on time ready to be seated. The management said we could not be seated until everyone arrived. Around 7:20 we had 9 people from our party ready but they still said needed all 10. So my question is say 1 person never arrives does that mean we lose the whole table? What great customer service. When all 10 of our party arrived they had already given up our table to another party and made some makeshift arrangements by the front door with stools and side tables. The stools were so uncomfortable that some of us just ended up standing. Now lets get into the service. The waitstaff made one of our party take the order for the whole table instead of taking our orders. What a joke. The food was overpriced but decent. Probably the only reason why they can have 1 star. But the biggest joke of them all was on the check there was suggested tips so we gave them what was suggested. The staff came up to us and then said the tip wasn't enough and asked us to reconsider. All it made me reconsider is my sanity for even trying this place. You want more tip than suggested when you didn't even take our orders and made us wait outside for a half hour. You guys are lucky we even paid. Stay far away from...

Went to Tacombi for lunch with my daughter. The place offers outdoor dining as well as indoor, was not at all crowed. Inside the place is spacious, there is a big table and some tables that seat 4 with foldable chairs. This place is very casual. Staff is attentive and friendly, they greet and seat you as soon as you enter. We ordered guacamole and chips, guac was ok chips were a little too greasy for my taste. I ordered 2 tacos, 1 al pastor and 1 Baja crispy fish. In my opinion the fish one needed a little salt. Both tacos were very delicious but small. My daughter ordered a quesadilla Gringa, also delicious also too small. It was more like a open face quesadilla, it only had 1 tortilla. The staff picked up our plates as we were finishing the dishes we were eating, so the table was kept clear. I guess that's good. The waitress offered us the check before we were finished, felt a little rushed, but no biggie. Overall I would recommend this place only if you're not too hungry.
