I met the owner of the salon at NYFW 2024 for which I was a lead planner. She was great so I booked an appointment for balayage at Rogue. It was 10/10 stars with Alex. That was 8 months ago. I came back on 05/30 for new balayage by Rogue with my sister. It would be best to avoid this salon because the stylist Michal ruined both of our hair. I’m now 2 visits in, both of which I had to take off of work for and my hair is 2 different colors still. As someone who has been getting their hair professionally colored for 15 years now, this is the first time I’ve experienced this and I am extremely unhappy with the service. I am now ready to cut my losses (in addition to the massive usage of time and hair damage to go through this each time). I’m going to my usual salon to fix this next because Rogue is not qualified to color hair, or to correct their errors.
05/30: We arrive to salon. Shared videos of what we would like. I asked for a straight forward style, auburn brown. Once again, my last balayage was at Rogue so they’re working on their own curated balayage on my hair.
Both mine and my sisters highlights came out uneven. Streaks, stripes, multiple colors throughout, not blended correctly. My hair had zebra stripes through out that my husband and I noticed when I got home, and was red on top and brown on bottom. Please note this very important detail: Michal didn’t say anything about this lack of cohesion until I mentioned that my hair red at the top and brown everywhere else. She had no problem letting me walk out of there with two toned, striped hair. I had to advocate for myself for her to acknowledge that it wasn’t correct, but there was no self admittance on her part.
My sisters hair was previously dyed darker red. They bleached her hair and did the complete opposite of what she asked for and showed pictures of. The end result was a blotchy, streaky blonde scalp with orange and red lengths. Once again, no offer from stylist to correct it on her own until we asked if she can tone the top atleast. You clearly see it came out poor, you don’t think you should acknowledge it and offer to fix it automatically? She would’ve let her walk out of there looking like a clown if I didn’t ask her to tone down the top part atleast. My sister says she has been tying her hair in a ponytail since because it’s so embarrassing that she has 3 different colors in her hair. We had a religious holiday after the first color session and we both put our hair in ponytails because the color of our hair was ruined.
I would understand if one of our hair came out unexpected, but it was both of us
06/14/2025 We had to go back for a gloss for correction from the first session. Today, I ended up once again with 2 toned hair. Red on top, jet black on bottom. Once again, no acknowledgement from Michal until I pointed it out.
-0000 for the repeated behavior of not acknowledging the poor outcomes for BOTH of us until we asked why it looks like this. No self willingness to correct. Completely okay letting me walk out both days with crazy 2 toned hair.
Please note that we still left gratuity. The for per per person came out to $315 (extra cost for gloss, which was not included), plus the time lost from work for 2 days.
It’s not worth it. I cannot go back a 3rd day to fix this mess because I am uncomfortable at how ridiculous this process has gotten. It shouldn’t take 3 sessions to get event, coherent color throughout. This is simply not how hair coloring works. My hair was not damaged or box dyed. It was not complex. It was literally done by Rogue last.
Now I have to spend more time and resources to go to another salon to ask why the heck my hair looks like this 2 toned mess. I’m done, over it.
**To the owner, who replied as unprofessionally as the stylist: uploaded texts back and forth with the salon as soon as we finished in for the first visit. Please clarify how this reflects “satisfied after first appointment”. Clearly your establishment cannot take accountability for poor practices or poor...
Read morePlease beware if you are going to this salon from Pulsd. I had possibly the worst experience of my life here and it was the way it was handled that really has me writing this review. I went in for balayage and the stylist I had was very sweet however didn’t really know how to handle my hair. She ended up chemically burning my scalp in the front and I had a ton of breakage due to the bleach being left on for so long. Not to mention my hair has very little strange looking strings of highlights. I have thick dark hair and i’m attributing that due to my outcome i’m assuming the stylist wasn’t expirrenced with my hair type however that is really no excuse. She tried to blame it on the fact that my hair had previously been colored but i told her from the beginning that it was colored two years ago so the breakage wouldn’t have been from that. She also said it was because I use heat on it however i barely do maybe once every month. In the end it was indisputable that this was not my fault and I was told I would get a full refund as well as a protien treatment from the stylist. I was rushed out and the next day someone named Rose texted me about my experience. I told her that it was bad and I had a ton of breakage and she asked for before and after pics. She was then incredibly passive aggressive and inconsiderate not really acknowledging how bad this was and i was just told to contact Pulsd for a refund and if I wanted a treatment from another stylist with more experience it wouldn’t be free and I wouldn’t get a full refund. This obviously shouldn’t have been the case since this was their fault and I was now missing hair due to it so I wouldn’t even be coming out with what I asked for and i didn’t really trust the stylist who did my hair anymore so I wanted someone else. All in all i’m getting my refund from the app but a representative from the app said they were not even contacted by the salon even though the stylist reached out and therefore due to contract they would still get paid for the disastrous mess still left on my head. I’m so upset bc there was no accountability held by the salon in this situation and I feel like I was just brushed under the rug. I also asked to speak to the manager or owner and was never contacted so I assume they never even told her or she doesn’t care. Please don’t go here if you love your hair it’s not worth it they are money hungry and not to mention everyone in that salon never even acknowledged my presence until i came out the bathroom and I could see two stylists obviously gossiping about the situation and tried to cover it up with an overly forced greeting. I attached my result and what I asked for so i’ll let that speak for itself.
Response: Honestly all I can say to what the owner just commented is this is such a sad and lame excuse to cover this up. Firstly, no test strain was done AT ALL the bleach was just applied to my head and stayed there from 10:15 to about 12:20 AND reapplied to my hair bc “the ends were not lifting due to the red in my hair.” Also the manager DID NOT reach out whatsoever I was told I would receive a call from her after about 6 attempts of me asking and still haven’t. Also the owner or manager who ever this is WAS NOT THERE so she cannot dispute any of the comments I made and my hair is still damaged so how am I wrong for simply stating facts AND reiterating MY OWN experience. Thank you and I’m still waiting on that call since you guys care so much...
Read more[UPDATE] 08/07/2024: I was contacted by Rogue House more than a week later, despite being told I would be contacted the next day. I ended paying an additional $170 at another salon to fix the color and damage in time for the wedding. Rogue House finally called me and offered me a refund only for what I paid there. They offered me a do-over, but it was 10 days late. Customer service skills are disappointing. Will not be coming back here again.
07/21/2024: Having been to Rogue in previous years, I am disappointed in my experience today. While I do not want to discredit the hard work of small businesses, I do feel obliged to share my visit for others thinking of booking.
Fees: I purchased a Pulsd voucher for a full balayage, haircut, blowout, and 20% discount off next visit ($165). I did not ned a haircut and I let the stylist know I would forgo it. I will share that since my color needed a toner (which turned out to be an additional charge--not listed in voucher), she offered to replace that in lieu of haircut. Another hidden fee was the gloss, which was outside of the terms of the voucher and was told it was required, and I was charged at the end of my visit ($55). Costs or need for toner/gloss were neither mentioned in voucher ($100+). With these added costs, this is not really a deal and would have been a regular balayage appointment at many salons in the area.
Hair appointment: My appointment felt rushed and did not meet the look I was hoping for. While my stylist seemed kind and professional, she seemed rushed and all over the place. I went to show her reference pictures to get her thoughts, she immediately asked me to pick just one, and did not discuss it further. (I was going for deep chocolate brown to lighten up my dark hair). She also did not seem to be timing the toner right, it was a bit sporadic.
When it came to unveil the color, she explained the salon lighting does not help see the tone correctly so she quickly took me outside and said, "What do you think? It's beautiful right! Oh, and just so you know, we don't offer do-overs because of new salon policy so if you like it now that's great." Between the fees, rushing, her comments, all of the above made me feel really pressured and I did not feel I could give her feedback about my look and felt obligated to agree with her (she was also dealing with another client at the time). The color is really more of a redder/orange tone--something I specifically requested I didn't want. Now back in my apartment, the coloring does not match the pictures and we can see some pieces that are blotchy and red/orange and brassy, particularly when I pull my hair back in a ponytail. There is nothing dark chocolate brown or "subtle" about this.
Between the fees and coloring (I had virgin hair, by the way, I had been growing it out for four years), I am saddened by this visit. I have a wedding on Saturday and now have to figure out how to fix this in time. I was told I would get a callback,...
