My recent visit to Cornbread left an indelible mark on my culinary journey, offering a quintessential taste of Southern comfort paired with unparalleled customer service. From the moment I stepped through the doors, I was enveloped in an atmosphere of warmth and hospitality.Upon arrival, my partner and I were warmly greeted by the staff, setting the tone for what would be an extraordinary dining experience. Kaire and Timiqua, two remarkable individuals, guided us through the menu with expert recommendations, ensuring we made the most of our visit.Opting for the two-piece chicken accompanied by yams, Mac and cheese, and collard greens, I was transported to a realm of culinary delight with each flavorful bite. The chicken, perfectly seasoned and fried to golden perfection, boasted a succulent tenderness that surpassed expectations. The yams, infused with just the right amount of sweetness, provided a delectable contrast to the savory ensemble. Meanwhile, the Mac and cheese and collard greens exuded homemade goodness, each spoonful reminiscent of cherished family recipes.Yet, what truly elevated this dining experience was the impeccable customer service. Kaire and Timiqua's genuine enthusiasm and attentiveness added an extra layer of enjoyment to our meal, ensuring that every aspect of our visit was nothing short of exceptional. In conclusion, Cornbread stands as a beacon of culinary excellence, offering not only delectable Southern fare but also a genuine commitment to exemplary customer service. For anyone seeking an unforgettable dining experience imbued with Southern charm, Cornbread is an absolute must-visit...

TL;DR: Flavorful comfort food with a lively atmosphere and friendly staff. Confused on how to order at first and place was a little messy but otherwise a delicious and memorable meal.

Quality of Food: The food was exceptional! The fried chicken was fresh, juicy, and seasoned perfectly. The mac and cheese had that golden baked topping that added both flavor and texture. The candied yams were divine! Sweet, spiced just right, and melt-in-your-mouth good. The cornbread stood out too, moist and flavorful, far from the dryness that often ruins it. Every dish was satisfying and worth coming back for.

Quality of Service: Ordering was initially a little confusing, but the staff guided us through it with patience and ease. Despite being close to closing time and working with a small crew, the employees kept a friendly and helpful attitude.

Environment & Ambiance: The restaurant had a fresh, modern vibe with great music that added to the lively atmosphere. While the space was a bit messy toward the end of the day, it felt more like the result of a busy shift rather than neglect.

Pricing and Concerns: The portion sizes were generous and made sharing easy, offering good value for the price. Solid $$ for two people.

General Comments & Recommendation: Cornbread Newark is a wonderful spot for soulful comfort food. The flavors, friendliness, and vibe outweigh any small imperfections. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone craving a hearty, flavorful meal—and I’ll...

Cornbread in Newark is an absolute gem and hands-down the single best soul food restaurant I’ve experienced in at least the last ten years. I am NOT exaggerating! If you check my reviews you’ll see I’m from Ohio and have been looking everywhere for traditional and authentic soul food back home but unless I personally take hours to cook it, its nowhere to be found! Unfortunately it took me traveling all the way to New Jersey to finally find a venue with great southern soul food that reminded me of my childhood and hit the spot.

From the moment I walked in, the customer service was impeccable—the women were warm, kind, and helpful. It felt like I was speaking to my cousins or distant relatives lovingly offering to make me a plate. 😊

Now, let’s talk about the food—because wow. Everything came out piping hot and steaming, which already told me what to expect next. The fried chicken was fresh, crispy, and well seasoned with the perfect crunch. The greens were yummy and clearly made with love — definitely not from a can like many soul food restaurants serve to take shortcuts. The Mac was sooooo good and was traditional, southern BAKED Mac— not the upgraded shells and cheese mess with a sprinkle of parsley many soul food restaurants serve these days. I enjoyed my food soooo soo much and will be sure to return anytime I’m back in the area.

I genuinely hope Cornbread continues to grow and expand—please bring this magic to the Midwest! We need this place back home...

I was pleasantly surprised by my experience here. When I walked in, I could smell the aromas from the seasonings and food. It was like I could almost taste the flavor before I even ordered. I could tell they were cooking up some real soul food and I went to the right place. The cashier Jasmine greeted me and took my order. I didn’t wait that long for the food to come. I ordered the baked turkey leg, macaroni and cheese, collard greens, black eyed peas, and potato salad. It was brought to me in plastic containers, but I see why, they gave me so much meat that I couldn’t eat it all in one sitting. I took photos of everything and it all looked and tasted great. My only concern is one of the 3 pieces of turkey was dry on one side, it aside from that everything was perfect. Jasmine and Tameka or Tameka enhanced the experience by bringing a peaceful vibe to the restaurant. They spoke to me and other customers. They were personable and made me feel at home or around family. All the employees I saw and could hear spoke to each other with respect The restaurant was nicely decorated. I liked the mellow music as well. Initially, I thought I was paying too much for the sides, $3.99, but they were worth it and I saw that the restaurant is a farm to table establishment, with some or all organic food and ingredients. It made sense. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants some authentic soul food, made with love. You won’t be disappointed.

Aight boom.. we came to Newark for an event being in a city where you don’t know to much it’s hard to find good food, we just happened to pass by and see the name cornbread and said F*ck it. Hit the U-Turn and slid into the spot. One foot in the door and the staff was amazing with the greetings made us feel like we was home. We got there pretty late so they was out of OXTAILS. This was 4/5.. but we went for for the catfish and boooooyyy that fish was flaky, hot, crispy and seasoned to perfection. We got the Mac and cheese and rice & gravy also amazing. But we ain’t want to eat to much we had to see the city. But we was coming back the next day before our flight left. So peep we pop in the next day early we talking Noon. Kawana remembered us right off walk in. So it’s go time, we check in for the oxtails and what do you know. They got em so we had to order em’ paired with the greens and the Mac. Also got the honey chicken just go look at the picture attached. Maaaaaaaan I wouldn’t leave Jersey just for the reason this location alone. As much as we ate today I’m going to sleep the whole plane ride home. OH AND THE DRANKS Southern twang is #1 get it don’t even think twice and the cornbread. Amazing. I can go all day lowkey but I gotta head back to the West Coast.. if you see a cornbread in your area pop in.. if you in Newark pop in and see these lovely ladies. Till next time Cornbread, thank you for the love and the food.
