I was pleasantly surprised by my experience here. When I walked in, I could smell the aromas from the seasonings and food. It was like I could almost taste the flavor before I even ordered. I could tell they were cooking up some real soul food and I went to the right place. The cashier Jasmine greeted me and took my order. I didn’t wait that long for the food to come. I ordered the baked turkey leg, macaroni and cheese, collard greens, black eyed peas, and potato salad. It was brought to me in plastic containers, but I see why, they gave me so much meat that I couldn’t eat it all in one sitting. I took photos of everything and it all looked and tasted great. My only concern is one of the 3 pieces of turkey was dry on one side, it aside from that everything was perfect. Jasmine and Tameka or Tameka enhanced the experience by bringing a peaceful vibe to the restaurant. They spoke to me and other customers. They were personable and made me feel at home or around family. All the employees I saw and could hear spoke to each other with respect The restaurant was nicely decorated. I liked the mellow music as well. Initially, I thought I was paying too much for the sides, $3.99, but they were worth it and I saw that the restaurant is a farm to table establishment, with some or all organic food and ingredients. It made sense. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants some authentic soul food, made with love. You won’t be disappointed.

Out of all places that I’ve ever been to, this location provided me with the most upsetting experience ever. To begin, I placed a pick up order. Before I left, I only saw 1 fork in the bag, so I asked for a plastic knife as well. But I was told that I only get 1 fork. Now comes the food. I ordered the baked chicken with 2 sides, which should come with a chicken breast, dumbstruck and 2 wings . When I got home I saw that all they gave me was 5 small wings. This is SIGNIFICANTLY less chicken than advertised and not at all worth $22. When I called them, (I believe I spoke to Kimyatta who was listed as my server for my to-go order), I was told they ran out of the breasts and gave me 6 wings instead. But they didn’t even give me 6 wings, they gave me 5 wings. I tried to explain that to her that 1) i didn’t get 6 wings and 2) the amount of meat is still significantly less, and even offered to show proof, but she tried to argue with me. She also stopped replying back to me afterwards, so I had to call back again, this time requesting at least a partial refund. I sincerely hope she at least tries to do that, but I have a feeling she won’t even bother as she didn’t sound sympathetic or bothered at all. Because the experience was so upsetting, my entire meal was ruined.

On 9/12/23 my family and I went to Cornbread in Newark. It was my twin daughters 25th birthday and we were celebrating. Now I am a person that never writes reviews but I felt the need to write a review about Cornbread’s food and their customer service. It was our first time eating there. The workers welcomed us and we sat right down. The funny thing was the workers also knew it was our first time. Shakiarah, Kawana and Kirah (Red)…. ( I hope I have your names right)…. We all thought it was funny and laughed about it. They were great!!! They were all pleasant and attentive. We ordered our food and when I tell you the portion size….. you will definitely leave out of there full!! The food was phenomenal!!! ( You know the food is good when no one at the table is talking!) My daughters and their dad had the fried chicken which was crispy and seasoned to perfection!! I had the (fall off the bone) Turkey Wings! Delicious!!! The cabbage and yams were my favorites! Everything was delicious!! We will return again and again. As a matter of fact I will be returning on Sunday 9/24/23 with some friends. Thank you Cornbread for your great food and customer service!!

I’ve been here before years ago and the food was good today the food is OKAY the Brooklyn NYC location is way better. The customer service here SUCKS when I entered the woman at the counter was staring at me and looking me up and down for a whole minute then with an attitude said “welcome to cornbread” there was a woman I front of her the whole time trying to place an order but the girl couldn’t even hear her because she was so busy staring me down. Then when it was my turn she took my order with an attitude. Once I got my order I’m going through the bag checking everything and the lid for my yams wasn’t secured and the juices were all over the bag a woman who I assume to be the manager was helping me but she also had a slight attitude, so much that she dropped my collard greens on the floor from her agitation from having to pack me a new bag. I will stick to the Brooklyn location although I moved to NJ I will drive all the way back to Brooklyn for better service. The food is way better at that location as well.

How do we start this one? @cornbreadsoul ! Wow! 🤩 • Location - 915 Broast St, Newark NJ 📍 • The staff were so friendly, you walk in and are immediately greeted, doesn’t matter how busy! • The drinks the food the everything amazing! • What we ate: Baked Chicken Catfish Whiting Mac and cheese Collard greens Yams Cabbage White rice with gravy Potato salad Cornbread (of course and yes it was delicious) 😋 • Everything was absolutely incredible, the chicken perfectly baked juicy tender and bursting with flavor. • We preferred the whiting because it was so fluffy and perfectly Krispy on the outside however the catfish was also full of flavor. Our favorite sides for sure were the potato salad and the cabbage! The cabbage was perfectly cooked and the flavor WOW! • To drink we had the uptown and the southern twang, let’s just say we had to ask for seconds to take home because of how good they were! • We can not wait to return and see the amazing staff while we enjoy our food, we will be back soon ✨

Did a web search for soul food near me and was happy to find this restaurant. Farm to Soul and something else about it drew me in. I was visiting from Philly, my son from NYC and cousin, a Newark native also visiting easily found parking. We were greeted as we came in the door, received prompt and courteous service, food was reasonably priced, they had adequate seating and clean tables, the food was lightly seasoned and tasted healthy but also gives a nudge that I should feel guilty about trying most of the menu, and lastly I was pleasantly surprised they had turkey wings..Mac, corn bread were the major pluses. I even enjoyed the potato salad. Two minor suggestions would be to have coasters as the moisture from the glasses leave puddles on the wooden table which wets napkins before you use them and also to try different potatoes as the potato salad while tasty was heading toward the end of best eaten by date.
