IHOP — Restaurant in Newark

After a long night of no sleep and a whole lot of thinking, on an early January morning we (me being not only a first generation immigrant who happens to be the first of her family to go to college) took the 6 walk from home to this recently discovered establishment. All things considered, I’ve continued to pursue a PhD in molecular biology and am well on my way to a long-lasting, successful career in my field of choice. I have arrived. The time was around 7:45 maybe even 8. We ordered breakfast and coffees. They have these carafes that keep the coffee at a perfect temperature during your whole stay. It is a nice detail. Our waitress was a beautiful kind soul that was so absolutely helpful during the whole visit. They also have killer OJ, I find it specially delicious when I order it in their small cups :). I would love to come here earlier to catch the sunrise between the municipal building and the post office (down Franklin St. to the East). Anyway, the sun has finally come out, so I should get back to my lukewarm coffee before I come down.

“Take two ours, it’s like that’s the only only welcomed unwelcomed way to wake up, this is not I’m harnessing like a drunk hangover situation, you know, like bursts of warmth. Feels good. Lost my train of thought there but I’m sure what you got there pretty muddy, for no apparent reason. Oh that was the whole thing, I was making a funny point, it’s a feeling of comfort but as far as (?) it is also a solemn reminder with the warmth coming to cold.— but no, the final point this is a beautiful spot and it’s right across the street from city hall”...

I ordered my food around 12noon received an update that my food would arrive at 1-1:15 and then it was canceled by driver because he waited 20min and no food was given so I tried to cancel with grubhub and was not able to cancel because food was being prepared called IHOP 4 times to find out what was going on with my order and of course nobody answered the phone received another update that my food would be delivered by 2:00-2:15pm with a different driver than received another update food wouldn't arrive until 2:35pm food arrived at 2:50 no picture was sent to me when food was left on porch and the food was terrible. The IHOP at 915 Broad St Newark, NJ is TERRIBLE. I will no longer use GRUBHUB nor will I ever spend money or visit this IHOP. GRUBHUB should definitely let customers cancel any order that they have to wait more than 2 hours for. This is unexceptable. I should have known better because when I actually went here to sit and eat and the service was terrible.....the waitress forgot our coffee we waited about 45min for our food and to put the icing on the cake the waitress closed our table out without us paying after waiting 30min for our check the waitress and I guess that was the the manager finally came to the table to let us know what happened and then she asks if we could pay in cash or do we have zell because the waitress closed our table out with cash.....I should have known not to order from here. NEVER AGAIN....Dine...

Wendy, the manager of this store on Broad Street in Newark, was the reason I stayed seated once I was finally seated. She was kind and very attentive. She worked as if she really wanted to be there to serve. She sat the examples for her staff. She moved quickly and once my order was received, she continually made sure I was satisfied. Her demeanor was that of a true professional. Her attire was professional. Her verbiage was professional. If you were to take Wendy into corporate training, she would be a wonderful instructor because she knows how to treat her customers. Not only did she treat me golden, she was not too ‘above’ her staff to serve tables. This is true leadership. She really blossomed when two older women came into the restaurant. One of them, left her rolator in the aisle. The woman insisted on leaving her Walker where it was, but Wendy, in a calm and collected voice, explained why the Walker could not remain in the aisle. Yes! The woman argued, but eventually moved her Walker. If Wendy had lost control even a bit, there would have been a scene. Wendy put the fire out before it was ignited. You should promote her to corporate. Her voice is needed! Her skills are needed. What IHOP needs are voices like Wendy’s voice that will draw customers back to your store. It is because of her I will...
