Visiting California on a recent excursion, I found myself with my teenage daughter, driving through Oceanside in search of a good meal. My kiddo is vegetarian, so I needed a place that would serve her dietary desires. The solution to our needs was Swami’s Café in downtown.
Swami’s has a good size interior with brick walls and lots of wood, for a comfy, inviting feeling. The garage door- style openings provide a non- assuming, non- pretentious, informal dining atmosphere. There is outdoor seating, too, and given that this is southern California, you might prefer to choose an outdoor seat where you can enjoy the fresh air and people- watch while you dine.
Swami’s is a breakfast/brunch/lunch type of establishment. They serve a wide assortment of breakfast options. Omelets are one of my favorite breakfast foods and Swami’s has a good assortment of omelets from which to choose. Outside of that, they have pancakes, waffles, French toast, breakfast burritos, and more. On the lunch menu, you will find soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers, and a menu section called Swami’s favorites, loaded with unique options such as spinach tofu, mole enchiladas, veggie quesadilla, and more. There is no dinner served here and they close at 3pm.
Swami’s serves juices and smoothies, so it’s a good choice for those who want healthier beverage alternatives. They have a handful of craft beers on tap, too, for people like me, which is always a plus. Seating includes high and low tables.
I like how the menu at Sami’s has a distinct number next to each food item on the blackboard, from which you place your order. This makes it easy to make sure there is no miscommunication- just tell them the number of the item you want. You order first, and then seat yourself wherever you like. They will bring the food to you when it’s ready.
Swami’s serves tasty American food and my vegetarian teenager and I were both more than satisfied with the quality of the meals, the service, and the atmosphere. It’s a great option for plant lovers and carnivores alike, as they serve something for everyone. We loved the experience and recommend it to anyone visiting Oceanside who wants a satisfying...
Read moreIf you enjoyed this review please give it a like and consider following me. My buddy and I sell steak, seafood and chicken off a truck across southern California, Nevada, and Arizona. Along the eay we hit every greasy spoon, dive bar and habadashery we can find, I enjoy sharing them with you. We went on a Thursday at about 10:30, we were fortunite to find a parking spot close by, and that may be an issue parking is all street side and you may need to walk a bit. Swamis is located at the corner of coast highway and Mission just blocks from the pier. Swamis is the go-to Oceanside (there are other locations as well) for breakfast, brunch or even lunch. They were fairly busy but we got in, ordered, ate and got out pretty fast. I gave the service three stars not because the service was lacking in any way but because you order at the register and serve your self drinks and coffee excluding alcohol. Speaking of which they do have a bar but we just ate. I wouldn't recomend Swamis if you are a family with a few kids looking to eat on a budget there are other places for that. Visiting town with your sweatheart and want to catch some fantastic breakfast in a really neat building walking distance from the beach, swamis has you covered. The wife went with eggs Benedict and I went with southwestern eggs Benedict (chorizo). You pay first at the register so when the total for two breakfast plates with coffee (2) and one smoothie topped $50.00 i thought it would be tough for a breakfast to live up to the price. When we took in the location, decor, vibe, friendly staff and absolutely delicious food we both agreed it was worth it. I would absutely...
Read moreI wanted to like - Horrible - the bun on my togo burger was little more than paste by the time I got home less than five min away. And I would love to know how my burger was half medium as ordered and half raw? - wife food didn’t fair any better, ordered $12 lobster Mac and cheese, had an unpleasant oder and barely any lobster, one bite and to the trash it went. $35ish spent, most went in trash.
Constructive criticism- plz start in the kitchen, we came in when it wasn’t very busy but waited almost 30 min for terrible food. As we sat, we saw numerous orders trying to be delivered to the wrong table (even though the numbers were prominently placed on table) - we ordered two shakes with our meal, meal arrived and server said we were “good to go” walked away. We tell someone else we had two shakes with meal. We were told they are “right in back I’ll go get them” but waited another 10 min for shakes (pretty sure they were started when I asked after meal arrived)
I don’t like the way you have set up to order but understand how it can work. With that said, need signage or someone explaining it. We saw numerous persons seating themselves (inside and out) only to be told they have to order at the register - this is annoying at best but if your establishment is busy it’s very hard for customers to get or keep a table.
Terrible experience but still has potential. Stepping...
