Grounds on 25th is the coffee shop I came to on my first visit to Ogden. In a way, it's transcended its own Grounds for Coffee brand. Locals refer to it as "Grounds on 25th," which is as unique a name you can get, I reckon, for a local Utah coffee franchise.
Grounds on 25th stands out as one of the most unique GFC's in the area. It's prime real estate on the west end of Historic 25th, which makes it a lovely spot to stop for a chat if you're strolling with your hunny. The shop tends to be quite open about its (its owner's?) political and social views, which was especially fun during the 2016 election. There is also often local art littering the walls, which gives some panache.
I've never had a problem finding seating, though Saturdays are a bit more hectic. The shop is the haunt of a lot of young parents, so there are children's games and toys tucked away into one little corner. On occasion, you'll have a family or some moms with young kids hanging around for a while, so bear that in mind if you're showing up with your school stuff ready to work.
Aesthetically, Go25 is everything I want in a coffee shop. Plenty of seating with high ceilings and wood floors in an old storefront in Ogden's historic district. I've spent many hours working, talking, and reading at Go25. Around the holidays, Go25 is decked-out with festive decor that makes it all the more fun to chill there.
To my knowledge all GFC's are serviced by the same roaster, so if you're just looking for drip coffee, you're not gonna get a different product than at another GFC in the area. But there are specialty food items. Go25 employs its own baker, who prepares treats on a daily basis for purchase. The baristas are all friendly and helpful 20-somethings. I've never had a bad customer service experience here, and often find myself shooting the breeze with employees.
Go25 has delish and unique holiday drinks (stylishly drawn up on the chalkboard wall by the register) and I've more than once asked them to "surprise me" with a drink - never to my chagrin.
There are punch cards which give you a free drip coffee or a one-dollar specialty drink (OF ANY SIIIIIZEEEE!), dealer's choice. On "Double-Punch Wednesday," you can get two punches per order and fill out your punch card quickly for a great drink real cheap.
The main drawbacks of Go25 are twofold. First, the internet is unpredictable. If you stay for any extended time, it will go out on you. It's best to exercise caution if you're working online. Second, the plug-in situation on the first floor is meh. Most of the outlets don't work, so keep that in mind if you're expecting to charge your phone or laptop.
All-in-all, the coffee at Go25 is by no means the best I've ever had, but it's enough to keep me coming back and is better than your average S'Bucks. The real replay value of this shop is its charming locale, friendly employees, interesting clientele, holiday spirit, pleasing coffee shop vibe, and obvious commitment the local Ogden community.
Even if you don't love coffee, Go25 is...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI hate to do this review but this place is having some serious esspresso drink consistency issues that need to be worked out. Honestly though, most coffee shops nowadays seem to have such issues though, for whatever reason. I have had drinks range from as good as I have ever had, all the way to I couldn't possibly drink this. Makes me sad because grounds has been my go to for soo long, and when it is good it is some of the best in town. Considering how much coffee I drink and buy from here, this has been a long time comming. I have tried to give the benefit of the doubt for some time. I don't know how many times I felt completely ripped off for paying soo much, plus a tip to get anything but good coffee. Especially, the times I could not even drink it because it was soo bad. Even after having my drink remade at times, it was a different kind of bad and not even decent. I have just thrown away many of these drinks because I didn't want to even bother going back and having it remade. I know some of these folks make decent coffee on the worst day, and amazing coffee most of the time (thus 2 stars rather than one). I also know that it is often one person that ruins it for everyone else, but I should not have to worry about who is making my drink. I suggest that you guys find a way to make sure ALL of your baristas can make at least decent to good coffee 9 out of 10 times. I hope you can figure it out, because some of you make great coffee pretty regularly, I am just done gambling on whether or not my drink was worth paying for, let alone tipping for. I'd rather have mediocre gas station drip coffee that is cheap and consistent rather than risk paying so much, tipping and anticipating amazing coffee only to get some of the most bitter burnt undrinkable esspresso disaster I could imagine. I'd rather lose my coffee money, it would be less disappointing. I guess I will just stick to making my own coffee. One more thing......I tend to think people should not be asked for tips before they get to determine the quality and service they are paying for, especially when they cannot rely on it being consistent with the previous time. Good bye and good luck, I hope for everyone's sake you can figure out how to prevent allowing people to be served anything but the great coffee I know you are capable...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWow...is all I can say. I'm almost speechless. This review is for the customers and the people who own this Cafe. The current self proclaimed manager went OFF on someone that has patronized this Cafe often enough in whichI can see. Under 2 min this female blonde hair and 30ish created such a loud and disturbing God awful and ugly attitude towards a calm well manner man.She was literally terrorizing the man while he was using the toilet. I had looked at the customers around me and saw many looks of...why must she be sooo ugly about it. she was totally picking on him very loadly thought the door .He stated that had every intention to purchase a coffee or sandwich. Through the door she gave him 1min to get out or else she will call the Police.. (After)him stating he would be out in a very short petiod of ttime..and he was. This bully of a manager has ran me and friends of mine as well from returning to your Cafe. She has a negative influence on the staff as well. There looks of horror was...disturbing. I left when the police arrived. The man had left with no insulting words. Please address this cancer. I'm sure the owner or owners does not want this negative energy in such a great Cafe. I will return once it is settled. I'm a peaceful and loving person who wants a Cafe my friends and I...
