I volunteer to feed the homeless with a local Nonprofit, just a small organization that was called to help, no one makes a dime, everything we get goes straight to the dinners served. Anyways, I told you that so you would understand this comes from a place of understanding the homeless community. My volunteer work was derived from my own homelessness. There are A LOT of homeless individuals in this area, even though it is not an area that necessarily welcomes the homeless. I frequent this Denny's often. I have seen staff welcome homeless in to use the facilities, for the restroom's intended purpose only (no bathing in the sink, etc which is understandable) and I have seen some staff flat out deny use of the restroom and shoo them away like stray dogs. That's why I only gave 4 '*'! They are humans, we are all members of their race, the human race. Treat them like humans. Let them use the bathroom, but don't let them wash their clothes in the bathroom sink as you wouldn't let a customer do that either! I promise you they don't want special treatment, they just want to be treated like EVERYBODY ELSE! They will adhere to the same rules as are laid out for your "regular" clientele. Unfortunately when a person has been treated poorly for an extended period of time, they start thinking that way about themselves and their actions can reflect how they feel about themselves. If you treat them well, they will feel good and in turn act "good". As far as the food and the atmosphere, the food is really good, I've had everything on the menu but the atmosphere is less than stellar due to the unfortunate way many ppl look down on homeless. It makes me sad. I am only addressing the staff here because the customer is paying their feelings and attitude are theirs and theirs alone. I understand it's a business, and they are in a position to make money so commenting on a customer's uneducated comments wouldn't be a good idea. I don't like to hear anyone talk about another human like that, so it doesn't make for a pleasant atmosphere for me and me alone. Hope this helps a little with your decision on whether or not to eat here. I hope you do, and maybe ask a homeless person if they would like your leftovers, I'm certain they would be...
Read moreMy husband and I decided to stop and eat after driving back from a game in San Diego. We just moved in the area and thought we'd try Dennys, We wanted something light before heading home. There were not to many people when we arrived and were seated right away. The problem was after we ordered, I ordered a hot chocolate and it arrived with no whipped cream as I was expecting,I asked didn't it come topped with whipped cream they said they were out..really out of whipped cream, I'd think they'd keep it in stock since so many things they serve have it on them. Then I decided to order their new crispy cheese tots they looked good on the menu and decided to get some of their chili on top, I was very disappointed the chili was cold what little they put on and looked nothing like the picture on the menu, So I decided to order chicken strips ,well they brought them just chicken Strasbourg no celery on the side or sauce like it said on the menu so I had to ask, it seemed I had to ask about everything I was served. Seems like they'd know they're own menu, well My husband ordered a breakfast which he said was ok but the hash browns were so pale they looked like they were heated in the microwave.I felt I'd have been better of saving my money and eating at home. No more Dennys for us the quality is no longer there ,only mom and pop restaurants for us...
Read moreUsually this Denny's has no parking available as the area is extremely busy during peek hours. On a Saturday evening however, my girlfriend and I were able to find a spot and stopped in for dinner.
We were seated by a young man who also took our drink order and there were about 5 other groups at booths. It is set up like many other Denny's, fairly clean and it's quick to get a table or booth.
Our waitress came later after the greeter brought us our drinks and took our order. She also confirmed what we had received to drink. I ordered a skillet, coffee and ice water, my partner had a sandwich, coke and fries.
It was odd that the waitress asked about our drinks because after she brought us our food we never saw her again until we had long since finished said food. Never asked if everything was ok, refills or warm up, nothing. She had plenty of time considering we eat slow and also used the restroom while waiting. The food was decent as per usual Denny's and besides that our experience was ok.
While our experience wasn't bad, I would rather go to a different location and hopefully get some staff that is a little more attentive. Given this and the fact that the area is very busy and parking is hard to find, I don't think...
