Listen up, Philly – if you’re looking for the ultimate happy hour spot, stop scrolling and get yourself here. I’m not just any happy hour regular; my life pretty much revolves around finding the best spots. I tracked this place from the moment it opened, and after finally moving to Center City, I gave it a go. Let me tell you – best decision ever. This spot has it all: the friendliest staff, incredible food, an unbeatable vibe – everything you could want. I’m here 2-3 times a week like clockwork.
This is hands-down the best happy hour in Philly, no exaggeration. The prices? Unbelievable. The portions? Gigantic. I bring my friends, they bring theirs, and now we’ve got a whole squad that’s basically addicted. And it’s not just about the happy hour – the prices all around are a dream. Even my pickiest friends are hooked; now they’re bringing their friends, too. This place better stay around forever, because I’m obsessed.
Now, let’s talk tacos. They have a weekly taco special that changes up every week, so there’s always something new to try, but don’t sleep on their regular tacos either. The smashburger taco, the shrimp taco – these everyday menu items are always available and absolutely delicious. I didn’t even like guac before coming here, and now I’m a full-blown convert. And don’t even get me started on the chips and dip – absolutely killer. As you can tell, I can’t get enough of this place.
And the margs? Massive. I’m proud of my tolerance, but after 2-3 of these, even I’m feeling it. For the price, the quality, the size – it’s insane.
And here’s the best part: just mention my name, “Zack,” and the staff will know exactly who you’re talking about. I’ve been here so often, they practically expect me to start helping out behind the bar. So go ahead and get ready for the best happy...
Read moreI’ve lived in Philly for the past 10 years, calling myself a local foodie. I’m not one to post on social media, but instead, tell my friends/colleagues the best place to try. For the last year, that “place” is Hilo taco.
Funny story…my boyfriend talked about their opening for months. Being me, I thought we would try their food and he’d stop talking incessantly about them. Little did I know, Hilo would be our “spot”. We’ve been coming here multiple times a week for the past year. Let me tell you why..
The food. Phenomenal and consistent. I’ve tried every taco on the menu. Obviously, I have my preferences (aka Hilo hot cauliflower and BBQ taco), but each taco is unique and flavorful. Their weekly taco special excites me each week: I look forward to the announcement and seeing the new creation each week.
The people. From the first time we went to Hilo, I felt like I was family. I can’t speak enough about how much we love the people who work here. It’s more than a job for them: they make their customers feel welcome, comfortable and at home. Coming from working in a hospital and having many long days, this places brings me joy everytime I walk in.
If you’re in Philly, please check these guys out! You will not be disappointed and will send all your friends here! They have the best tacos, staff and margaritas...
Read moreAfter seeing Hi-Lo Taco featured on 6ABC by Boyington and looking at Hi-Lo's website it was added to mu "want to go" list. I finally went with my bestie foodie friend and wow we were not disappointed from the door. We were greeted by the bartender (maybe owner?), the decor was nicely done in good taste, our server was very nice and attentive and the overall dining area looked clean. Now to the food, it was tacos, salsa and chips with a side of fresh guac. The salsa was delicious and "goldilocks " just right for us, not too spicy with a smokey flavor. The heirloom corn in-house chips were a nice match. We both ordered the chicken fajita tacos which were very good my foodie in crime also ordered the crispy shrimp taco and said it was very good too. I ordered the mushroom asada taco and WOW it was delicious and my favorite. We both left with orders to go to enjoy later. We didn't order any of the margaritas but on our next trip we will when we have time and nowhere else to go afterwards. The bar is a nice size with good seating and high top tables across from it. The drink menu looks very refreshing. We could use a location across the river to join the new development in...
