I've come here 5 times now and am always ordering new dishes to try. This past time I went exactly at 4:30pm when they opened, the waitress is energetic, knowledgeable, and works pretty much every time I go. We are typically seated in the same spot. The place is pretty dim, I wish there was maybe more light at the table. Parking is, as usual, difficult for the area.
Short Rib: Mixed feelings about this. The short rib itself is a WOW for texture just melted, the sauce is a red wine reduction, which was disgusting, with how pungent it was. Portions were atrocious for $22.
Ribeye $55/per person: Took about 45 minutes to cook, came out with rosemary. The flavor was great, but unfortunately the cook is Medium to Rare and completely forgot to tell them Medium-Well. The waitress didn't ask us either. I think this was an oversight of hers or maybe a bias, but I definitely wanted to puke when I saw bloodiness. The Ribeye was salted well, and had good flavor even the day after as leftovers, but I had to reheat it much longer than I thought to just get it to medium-well. This ribeye is iffy, but I would try it again, asking for medium-well. It comes with 2 side dishes as well, which were appreciated. (Roasted Shishito peppers, and some kind of mushroom dish possibly Setas - Roasted Oyster Mushrooms, Migas, Jerez Vinegar $12)
Dessert - Left - Churro (crispy, fresh, long, sugary) Right - Soy, Nutty, Red Wine reduction ( looks like a flan honestly. She didn't have a name for this just told us ingredients that red thing was disgusting but the flan part was cold but good)
Have ordered over and over again: Patatas Bravas - Crispy Potatoes, Spicy Tomato Sauce, Manchego, Saffron Aioli, Fresnos $10 (consistently great) every time I eat it, it's always a "wow" for the first bite when I revisit.
Would never order again: Gambas al Ajillo - Shrimp, Chili Pepper, Lemon, Migas $16 Shrimp is essentially boiled and parsley is thrown over this. There's boiled lemon/shrimpy/ watery juice. I really wish they told us that this had parsley in it, because I detest, absolutely loathe parsley. The shrimp should be crispy and just in a sauce, this would make it so much better. Have given this dish 2 tries since I love, love shrimp, but will refuse to get it ever again.
Crispy Pork Belly - Plum, Turnip, Baby Mustard $14 Just gross tasting. Me and my friend agreed it was bad choice.
Parking? Difficult, come early to find street metered parking. Food? Overall consistent, good. VERY EXPENSIVE for a small portions. Consistently spent $120 or more, with this recent time being $220ish. Waiter/Waitress? 7/10 knowledgeable, but sometimes the waiters/waitresses are forgetful, or ignore water completely for a while, even after we ask. Bathroom?Clean, neat, small sink. Would I come here again? Yes, hesitantly, and I have brought several people here as well to give them business. I just wish the dishes gave more...
Read moreGood food, bad service: Me and my boyfriend were celebrating our anniversary today and we wanted to try something new. It was our first time at Oloros and also our first tapas experience so we were very excited. We were greeted by a very nice waitress (I didn’t get her name but she had pink hair) so things were off to a great start. She told us that our server Felipe would be joining us shortly. Fast forward moments later and this man comes over, no introduction and asked if he could get our drinks. We told him it was our first time and we were still looking. He said okay and disappeared. Now to his credit, he did have a lot of tables. I have worked in the industry for over 5 years, so I get it. The problem is that he payed a lot more attention to his other tables and barely checked in to see if we were okay. After disappearing for some time this lady with very dark hair and fair makeup came over and asked if she could take our order. No hello, no introduction, just “are you ready to order”. I then explained for the second time that it was our first time and we were not sure what to get. She seemed annoyed and proceeded to give some suggestions. We ordered the jumbo lump crab dish- very good, a little oily but still really yummy. The anonymous women with the dark hair avoided eye contact even when passing our table multiple times. Keep in mind, I’m thinking that she is our waitress because Felipe has comepletely abonded us at this point. My drink was empty and the food was finished. No one came to refill our drinks or clear our dishes. So at this point I’m extremely annoyed. If someone would have checked on us we could have told them we were ready for our next course, but instead we sat there with empty plates and dishes while everyone else received superior service. Felipe ended up coming back later, with no explanation of his disappearance- we ordered the ny strip rib and it was cold. It was clear that it has been sitting out for a while. Once we sent the steak back Felipe started paying us more attention. But by then I was ready to go. We literally watched him have full blown conversations with his other tables and barely say ten words to us the whole night. When we asked for the check he THEN proceeded to ask if we wanted anything else and offered us water... this was the most attention he gave us all night. I personally feel like that was his guilty conscience speaking because why would we want anything else if we just asked for the check?🤨 In closing, do better and be cognizant of all patrons, and also body language is...
Read moreI don’t know where the begin but the Valentines menu was not it. My partner and I are BIG fans of amano. For Valentine’s we finally decided to try Oloroso and we were so disappointed. First, they were backed up that we got seated 25 minute after our reservation. No apologies for the wait and they had us all hunched up in the front of the restaurant and told us we could wait at the bar when there was only one seat available.
The bottle of wine we got was very good, but then the food options. So lackluster and for the price we were expecting so much better. The appetizer first course were sooo boring. The beats had barely any flavor, only 1.5 slices of jamón for two people, the bread was cold and hard, the tuna deviled egg with a small potatoes chip seemed like something I could just whip up in my kitchen. The oysters were alright and a little too oily. If you want some cooked and amazing oysters I recommend LMNO.
Then came the bacalao buñuelos. Finally something good. But then we got the eggplant with honey that tasted sooo burnt from the skin being charred. Just literally confused why and how that was a dish and why it had so much raw scallion. The eggplant was flat out horrible.
The octopus was good but my gosh could you please give us at least another tentacle? I know these are tapas but if we can only select two plates from the course and the main menu isn’t available, please at least give us more. The squid ink “wrap” was also good but again just not enough.
Next was the paella and that was good but a lot of the rice was burnt. I’m Colombian and we eat arroz raspado but you could barely eat this one. Finished off with the cheesecake and that was so good and fluffy.
Honestly we expected so much more. When you have a set menu and price you should knock it out of the park especially when you’re featured in magazines and rated so highly, but honestly these dishes could have been prepared better in my kitchen at home. I’m still baffled by the eggplant. Honestly very disappointed when we spent...
