I love Zion's Cuisine. It is a neighborhood gem and I will miss it if/ when I move out. I usually get brown stew chicken, beef stew, or pepper steak. The food is affordable, delicious, and healthy, and a large platter is good for 2-3 big meals (I do use rice from home to stretch it). Zion's is my go-to when I don't have the time or energy to make something decent for myself.
No restaurant review is complete without a criticism, so: I wish they made it clear what is available each day. This goes for all Jamaican spots, but it seems like every day there is something they don't have. Knowing what's available with an updated list (instead of an interrogation at the order counter) would also give me the opportunity to try dishes I haven't before, such as their soups and breakfast items.
Also, although their cabbage is the best Jamaican cabbage I've ever had, when I get cabbage and greens as sides I wish they would put my greens in the little slot for sides instead of always the cabbage. I end up with enough cabbage for two meals but only one meal worth of greens. Maybe greens are more expensive for them.. I will ask to pay extra for this next time and see what they say.
Overall, Zion's is my favorite restaurant in the area and I am already looking forward to the next time I fall woefully behind on...
Read moreWent to Zions for a quick takeout with my sibling. We've been trying different Caribbean cuisine spots around Philly and this restaurant was by far the biggest let down. To their benefit we did go there later in the day but shouldn't be a excuse for the quality received Atmosphere was poor, nothing welcoming about the place and the kitchen lights were off
Service was bad, they had no jerk chicken which Is wild because people mainly go to Caribbean spots for oxtail or jerk chicken and I had to wait for the Mac and Cheese which I didnt mind until I tasted it.
The Food... The Presentation was great and the food smelled delicious. The Mac was unforgivably bland, the cheesed lacked flavor and lacked salt. The yams were not sweet. My guess to these issues are having the food sit all day under heat caused condensation and the food just sat in water which probably drained out all the flavor. Due to them being out of jerk , I got curry my sibling got bbq. We both agreed the chicken was solid. I got an extra side of greens and cabbage, but I've already been let down enough for today so imma gonna take the L on the food but hopefully they can solve...
Read moreMy choice of this restaurant was based on the reviews here. I have to say the reviews served me well. My sister, nephews and I went just before closing one night. I had the oxtails and my sister and nephews had the jerk chicken. When I say the food was bomb it was bomb!. The entree including the sides of Mac n cheese, rice n peas and cabbage. And remember, this was near closing time. My sister decided to go a 2nd time a couple days later and she said the food was terrible which as verrrrry surprising. She called and complained and they promised her complimentary platters. She went the next day and she was very satisfied. Maybe they had a bad day. I haven’t gone back yet but I plan to. Overall, the food is amazing, very well flavored. You will not be...
