You absolutely HAVE to treat yourself to Regent Bakery & Cafe.
My daughter, son, and I decided to stop in for a nice dessert.
This is not going to be a traditional review of a bakery. I highly recommend you have some tissues nearby as you will likely need them as I describe this, my first experience going to Regent Bakery & Cafe.
Read on, if you dare
I should fully confess that years ago I was a co-founder of a European-style wholesale frozen dessert company based in Redmond. My partner was an amazing pastry chef - trained originally at the South Seattle Community College pastry program, followed by a specialty pastry school in Switzerland.
We made our own sponge cake, real buttercream, and European mousse made with real cream. We had special troughs made to hold water in our large ovens so we could properly bake our cheesecakes and decadence in a water-bath.
Our desserts were amazing - many hotels and caterers used our desserts. I say this because I became spoiled to what truly great desserts should look, taste, smell, and feel like.
It has been thirty years since I had last tasted our desserts...until I walked into Regent Bakery.
I cannot describe how much joy and anticipation engulfed me. I was in pure delight as I looked through the glass cases of one amazing dessert after another.
They were perfect! Beautifully finished.
Unlike traditional bakeries we have here in the US where the uber-sweet odor of sugar overwhelms your senses...Regent presents itself as a special place that will take your olfactory and palate to new heights of pleasure.
My son and I ordered slices of their mocha torte and my daughter had a slice of the German Chocolate.
Each slice is perfect in and of itself. They are beautifully packaged with each slice protected in a cellophane wrap around the sides. All three were placed in a beautiful box.
There is a sense that what you are getting there is not just a piece of cake, but an experience...from the moment you walk in to the moment you take your last incredible bite.
You don't just simply eat their desserts, so much as you savor each and every bite.
Taste - light, flavorful, with the delicate balance each ingredient creating a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts.
Texture - light, perfect balance between holding together and melting in your mouth. Moist and perfectly blended and baked.
Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to an amazing dessert. You deserve it.
10/10 will go...
Read moreHum... a Chinese restaurant... or maybe Café? Or is it a Bakery? I'm not really sure what this is, but it's something...
Whatever it is, it's not bad. I'm not going to give this place a ton of stars, because 1. I haven't tried the bakery side, and 2. The food was only ho-hum. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love a great Chinese dish, and yes, I'm the type to consider Din Tai Fung, overrated, so maybe that tells you I have a higher expectation for food that I cook on a regular basis at home. Why was I here then? This was a Quick dinner with a sweetheart, then back to work.
So I see a ton of review of the bakery, and the food, I just got a bowl of their house fried rice, which was tasty, but nothing special. My buddy got a bowl of Pork Soup, which admittedly I was eyeing the entire time I was there. So here is a plate of food, which tastes fine, nothing special. I keep thinking when I go to a Chinese restaurant, that there will be something that takes my breath away, but then again, all I got was friend rice. The service was fine, though, it could have been better
Sorry, I want to rate this restaurant, and maybe when I go for the bakery, things may change, but for the...
Read moreThis bakery cheated me by charging my card $10 more than the actual price of the cake and wont budge to refund the difference. Pl make sure to ask for the receipt and clearly understand the charges before placing order prior to sharing your card details for 'over the phone' orders. I ordered a chocolate eggless cake for 10 people/8" from here for same day delivery. The price for the cake was explained as $39.99 for cake, $5 for same day delivery + taxes ~$50. At the time of the pick up, they didn't provide me with a receipt and after few days I see a charge of $60 on my card. I called up the bakery, and now the lady is explaining me that charges for eggless cake is extra $12 and thats the diff. I flagged her that first they didn't explain me the charges right, on top they didn't provide me with a receipt and finally they charge incorrectly. The lady on the phone got pretty rude and outrightly refused to refund me the excess charge and hung up... ridiculous folks. Stay away...
