We are Rockport natives. We eat out quite often, and have dined at nearly every establishment in the coastal bend. We heard some good things about Ngo's, and decided to give them a try. I usually do not rate, even though we have had some poor experiences. However, if I could put no stars at all, I would. This was the worst experience, we have ever had in a returaunt. First, after standing at the front for about 5 minutes or so, we asked if we were supposed to just seat ourselves? They responded with, "whatevermakes you happy". So, a brief scan of the resturaunt showed several empty tables that had not yet been cleaned. There was one two seat right where I was standing. I pull out a chair to sit down, it's full of water or something. Then I spot a large table and a 4 seat table at the rear. At risk of not being seen, we went back and took the smaller table. We waited for a while. When a party of six took the table adjacent. At this point a server finally showed. He started to go to the table of six first, then said, oh, you were here first, and tossed us a couple of menus and left. When he finally returned, with menus for the other table, he took their drink order, then stepped over and took ours. We went ahead and gave him our order for dinner while he was there. The next thing he did was question our order. A fairly common order at most Asian restaurants, however, apparently not there. Apparently, he found it ridiculous that we would place an order of Pork fried rice to go with our entree's. We also ordered and order of Rangoon as an appetizer. Then he turned and took the order from the party next to us. Then we waited. Finally the appetizer is on it's way, only to be given to the party next to us, that of course came long after us. So we waited. Then came the meal for the party of six, next to us. We still have not even recieved our appetizer. At this point I have had enough, I proceed to walk out. My wife being gracious, found the server and asked about our dinner. She tells him to just box it and we will take it to go, he got put out with the request. Much more than I would have offered. After another ten minutes or so, she still recieved nothing. She walked out as well finally. In short, I can say nothing for the food, because we never recieved it, however, the management, the service, and the rude server where more than anyone should have to deal with. Not to mention, it was not the cleanest place I have seen. I will never set foot in there again. Server blew it too. I tip well, even when I feel the service could be better. His loss. I question these ratings as to their legitimacy. Enter at own risk and ability to deal with non sense. A resturaunt should be a nice place to go and enjoy your evening, not...
Read moreWe've heard many good things about this restaurant, since we're visitors to the area. After staying here a month, we've tried many local restaurants. Most of which are pretty mediocre. That brings us to this review. Ngo's food was fabulous. Definitely the best food we have tasted in Rockport. Hubby ordered the fried rice meal with vegetables and chicken. ($14) The serving was humongous. He said the taste was great. Hot and fresh. Plenty of vegetables and chicken. I ordered the Sesame Chicken Stir Fry with chicken. ($14) The huge portion of chicken was covered with a delightful, scrumptious sauce and plenty of sesame seeds. The chicken was not breaded and heavy, like Chinese restaurants. Just well cooked and well seasoned chicken. Yum. And the side of fresh steamed vegetables (carrots, zucchini, yellow squash and broccoli) were steamed and cooked to perfection. Slightly crisp, but well seasoned and gently cooked. The fried rice was a bit different from the traditional Chinese fried rice I am accustomed to, but still quite tasty, especially when I mixed it with the wonderful sauce on the chicken. The meal started with two hot, fresh, and crispy egg rolls ($5) which were some of the best egg rolls we have ever eaten. (And we lived in the Orient for two years!) All of this food was absolutely delicious! We had plenty for leftovers, as like stated earlier, the portions are huge. (see the photo of the carry out container...that was just my leftovers!) Our server, Brandon, was kind, polite and very knowledgeable of the menu, as we asked him many questions about the food choices. He was attentive to our needs and returned to our table often to check on us. The restaurant isn't fancy, but seemed very clean, with many tables and chairs, being able to accommodate any size group. We will definitely return to try other offerings of this establishment, knowing they will all...
Read moreI just wanted to share my experience with others, I ordered from the child's menu which is three choices I've ordered from this menu before no problem right? Wrong they brought me an adult plate I ask what's this he said what you ordered and I was like no I ordered the child's portion he said oh I'm sorry I got in trouble yesterday for serving a child support shyn I just looked at him. He serves the rest of the food leaves the table comes back ask is everything alright I tell him know this is not what I ordered I ordered the child support division he says he just can't do anything because that he got in trouble yesterday for serving child portion. He walks away I get up after him and tell him I'm not going to be able to eat it he'll have to take it back I don't want the order after all I'll just eat the appetizer that we had ordered he says okay. I'm assuming he's going to take it off of our ticket, the rest of my party finishes their meal I eat the appetizer. When we get up to go pay the lady at the front Harley, argues with my husband that no matter if we ordered it or not or got what we ordered or liked it or not that that was what we had ordered and that we would be paying for it for the sake of a scene in front of my father-in-law we paid. Needless to say we will not return to this restaurant today tomorrow or ever so just in case you decide you want to go here they do have food here and they are large portions but be careful what you order and make sure your waiter or waitress knows exactly what it is you want and can serve it to you of course without getting in trouble...
