I visited this restaurant with my friend. My friend made a reservation and I arrived earlier. They didn't tell me if the table was ready or not and just had me waiting until my friend arrived. I've never been to a restaurant that they wouldn't seat me. All the restaurants that I've been to asked if I would want to be seated. But this place, just had me at the corner of the bar. And that made me feel very uncomfortable because this is a small restaurant that didn't have a seperate waiting area. I rather would have been seated. They served me water, but that was it. Finally my arrived and we were escorted to our table. Then the waiter brought me my glass that I left at the bar while I was waiting. Seriously? For the price that they were charging, I was expecting them to serve me with a new glass. On the same note, I was expecting a real coaster and not a paper napkin as a coaster. The food was okay, but considering the price, I definitely did not think my good was worth $30. The crembulee was not the best either. I didn't think the service was there either. Well, not to say that the service was particularly bad, but they were not personable and seemed like they were in a rush. Adam came and verbally went over the menu. I felt like he was going over the menu too fast and he seemed to be in a rush, I didn't feel comfortable asking him to repeat the menu. For the meal, it was a bit better because we still had our menus though he did state some other dishes that was not on the menu. But for the dessert, we didn't even have a menu and Adam was just verbally stating the desserts. I ordered the crembulee because that was the only thing that I could remember. Besides, Adam was only looking at my friend while he was going over the menus. The waiters had no smiles and were just not personable. I do think this place has some food that is hard to get at other places. In concussion, compared to the service, quality of food, atmosphere, etc., I give this place a one star. I felt like this was a wanna-be- fancy restaurant but not there. I rather go to fire house where it's more spacious and comfortable or I would rather go to Macaroni Grill and save...
Read moreMe and my significant other went out to dinner and he decided to pick the spot because it had really great reviews and the atmosphere looked really nice. When we got there, we were waited on quickly. We were seated. We did have reservations. The atmosphere is exactly how it shows in the pictures. It’s very quiet, calm romantic.
The waiter was also really nice. He did talk really fast so sometimes when he was giving the specials, it was hard to understand exactly everything that he was letting us know. Ask him to repeat himself when he came back I feel like they should have more like a piece of paper with all the specials written on it to know what’s included or the waiter just needs to just slow down so that people can just comprehend the Explanation. We ordered an appetizer that was part of the specials. It was some sort of ground meat wrapped in Filo dough, and there was like a little mashed potatoes on the side. The appetizer was OK. It did have a nice crunch to it. The potatoes do have horseradish in them so if you’re not a fan of that, I wouldn’t recommend the mashed It’s not some thing that I would prefer but it wasn’t something that was completely horrible The two entrées that we got where the sea bass in the ribeye, the Seabass tasted as if it was over cooked, or they cooked it, frozen it had like a rubbery kind of texture to it. It should’ve been flaky, and again was accompanied with the mashed potatoes. The ribeye on the other hand needed to be cooked longer to render the fat also had no taste just even this adding salt didn’t help if there was just no flavor what so ever. I also don’t think that a restaurant that is charging the price they are should just be serving snap peas and baby carrots on the side. It just looks...
Read moreI took my girlfriend here for her birthday dinner and it was more than just a good restaurant, it was a FANTASTIC dining experience. That being said, it's NOT cheap, so be willing to pay around $100-150 for a dinner for two.
Moxie is a Sacramento gem, that's been around for many years, but not too many people seem to know about it. It's a great little fine dining restaurant located in a nondescript hole-in-the-wall spot on H and 20th. The ambiance is very romantic, with low lighting and red decor that seems like a blast from the past for us Millennials; like something out of an old movie (but in a good way).
The wait staff is very good and attentive. They're willing to do pretty much whatever you ask to accommodate you, and your glass will always be full. They have a menu with some of the "standing items", but the real treat is when the owner/chef comes out and verbally recites the specials for the day, which was a fun and unique little portion of the experience.
The food itself is excellent, and very flavorful. They have an extensive wine selection, but we opted to go with some cocktails from their equally good cocktail menu and these stuff mushrooms for an appetizer. For the meal itself, I ordered the Fillet Mignon, which was exceptional, and my girlfriend ordered the scallops which were even better (I was a little jealous!). We followed up with the crème brûlée for dessert, which was some of the best that I've had in a long time.
All in all, it was a great experience that was worthy of a special occasion and something fun to indulge in if you're a fan of fine dining and unique experiences. It's definitely something that you'd only do once in a while...
