Had the expensive Friday night buffet, $65 after tax before tip, actual price is a little higher than what other reviewers were saying. The rating I gave was based off of what I would expect get for this sort of price. Crab was crab, can't go wrong with it, maybe worth the price as a crab buffet alone if that's your thing but there's some other lower end buffets that do that too on the weekends. This crab was decently better than some of the cheaper buffets that have crab. Really good melted butter, normally I like some garlic butter, they didn't have any but this butter was so good I didn't even miss it, don't want to cover up that flavor, if you eat the rolls or veggies steal some of this liquid butter cuz it's better than the stuff they put on your table and way better than the little packaged stuff they have out. That Cajun boil seemed just a tad bit overcooked. There's better places in town if that if it's what you're after. New York strip wasn't just rare it was mooing, brisket was dry and not very flavorful. So the main event is the prime rib obviously, and I've had a lot of prime rib in my life, I seek it out. This was about 3/10. I had four servings to try to get my money's worth; only one of them was what I would consider decent, like it was all edible, it's hard to mess up prime rib so bad you can't eat it but just wasn't very good for prime rib which really was a shame cuz its supposed to be the star of the show. Had a meh tear aju, would be shocked if they actually made it in house, like about the same as Arby's for their French dip. Horseradish was strangely mild and not in a good way. Clam chowder was excellent, totally top notch. I don't know if it's on their regular meal, but for the price of the fancy buffet it's hard to justify eating a lot of it but maybe on a cheaper day or if they have it a la carte it could be worth a trip just for that. Cooked salmon was decent smoked salmon was 4/10 no smokey flavor at all. Cod was quite good actually, cooked perfectly with a lovely sauce. Staff was attentive and polite, this place is pretty upscale. Desserts were excellent. Lots of really good pastries. Chocolate cake was great. Parking was weird but they validate so...
Read moreI don't know what happened to this place. The buffet used to be so good.... best in downtown SLC. But now it is mediocre at best. I Went there for a holiday work lunch with some colleagues. First off the price of the buffet went up $7...whatever everything is going up. But the salad bar literally had lettuce, shredded carrots, cucumbers and black olives, a few toppers like sunflowers seeds, croutons and then dressings. But that's it. Not really a salad bar more like like make a side salad. I only had the turkey and tried one BBQ rib. The turkey was good but the BBQ rib was really just OK. I would have like to have it fall off the bone but this one was not tender at all and hard to eat. I only took 2 bites. The mashed potatoes and gravy were good but that stuffing/dressing has got to go! It was so mushy, soggy and slimy. It did not taste good whatsoever. Seriously burn that recipe and start over. They did have other meat choices like prime rib, BBQ chicken and salmon. I did not try these other meat options so I cannot comment on them but others in my party did and they said they were good but nothing to rave about. The steamed veggies and bread rolls were good. The vegtable soup was tasty. They had a very large selection of mini dessserts. I tried a few of them...but the Chocolate cake was dry, soooo dry it should've come with a shot of milk. The eclairs were just not good. Others said the same thing...sad because I love eclairs. The mini cream puff and the Crem Brule were really good. Our waitress was extraordinary and kept our drinks full. Honestly for a little over $40 per person (with gratuity) I expected so much more. Overall I would give this...
Read moreDisappointing Experience at The Lucky H Buffet
My visit to The Lucky H Buffet was an utter disappointment, leading to a frustrating and unsatisfactory experience. We had made a reservation for 9:30 AM, as confirmed on their website, which clearly stated that breakfast hours extended until 11:00 AM. However, upon arrival, we were informed that the buffet was closed for breakfast and was in the process of preparing for lunch.
To add to the confusion, the host mentioned that breakfast would be available at 10:00 AM, advising us to wait. This contradictory information was further compounded when our waitress informed us that both breakfast and the restaurant would close at 10:00 AM. This left us with a mere 15-minute window to dine, blatantly contradicting the host's assurance that breakfast would commence at 10:00 AM.
The lack of consistency in communication and the passive attitude of the staff suggested a clear indifference towards our dining needs. It felt as though we were being subtly that we couldn’t eat there and to dine at their cafe. I wasn’t going to spend a minimum of $15 for a single item. I was wanting to spend $30 on the buffet experience. This experience was particularly disheartening as we had traveled a significant distance, expecting a pleasant dining experience. The Lucky H Buffet’s failure to deliver on its promises and the overall poor communication have left a lasting negative impression. I strongly advise others to reconsider visiting this establishment, as the likelihood of a similar...
