We decided to stop by Curry Fried Chicken when we were leaving Salt Lake City as it was one of the few places that was open on our route out of the city. When we googled it we noticed that Guy Fieri had endorsed it on his show "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives". So we had reasonable expectations considering that Guy Fieri had visited this place however, it was not so special, just OK!
Food: Naturally we tried the curry Fried chicken considering the reviews and the name of the restaurant. I wasn't too much of a fan of the chicken as it seemd to be over fried and the skin was hard rather than crispy. The seasoning on top of the chicken was OK but I didn't think that it added a heap of flavour to the meat. On thebother hand the curried lentils and the vegeatable curry that came with the chicken as a side was nice and had a curried flavor. We did love the samosas which came with spicy sauce! Honestly I would get them on their own and be perfectly satisfied.
Staff: I believe the store owner Sonny was the man behind the counter when we were there. TBH he really didn't do it for me. He wasn't necessarily rude or not pleasant towards us however, there was some kind of arrogance about him at the same time. What I will say is that there was a busboy who was doing a phenomenal job at clearing tables and cleaning all the surfaces. He came by our table a couple of time and asked if we were ok for drinks and if our meal was good which I thought was nice considering that the owner wasn't doing it... Note: This is where the arrogance of the owner showed as he was berating the busboy for being too slow for some reason and from what we could see the busboy was doing a great job!
Premises: The restaurant was clean and it is decorated with a lot of pictures and a number of Guy Fieri pictures.
I don't quite get the hype about this place in the reviews but I do think that there is some room to improve. For one thing be nicer to the busboy who was actually doing a great job and was nice to the customers. Then figure out why the fried chicken is hard rather than crispy...
Not sure if I'd return if I am ever in Salt...
Read moreFirst time here. I ordered the curry fried chicken plate for $13.99. It came with a salad, rice topped with some cooked veggies and beans, a pita, and two pieces of chicken. Everything was very flavorful, including the fried chicken but the chicken was over fried. The skin was so crispy I actually felt like I was going to chip a tooth biting into it. Additionally, the chicken pieces they gave me were two very small thighs without much meat on them. Interestingly, before writing this review but after eating, I read another review where the same things were mentioned - over fried and small chicken pieces. My experiences is that when fried chicken looks like this it has been fried twice. Once to cook it originally and then a second time to reheat and give the impression it is freshly fried. The other giveaway is that my plate had a pretty good amount of oil on it. They may want to read these reviews and make some changes.
The service was quick but certainly not friendly. Atmosphere is about a 6 out of 10 for but more because of too many unnecessary decorations and the fact that they have TV spots like DDD, morning news, etc promoting themselves on repeat. It looks like they try to keep the restaurant clean but the floor is old and stained. The soda fountain is out of order so canned/bottled drinks are the only option along with free water in 4 oz mini cups. I was the only customer in the restaurant, however, 3 or 4 Door Dash drivers came in for pickups during the time I was here.
Overall, cook the chicken a little less and make the chicken pieces bigger and I would be back. If not, I don’t think I...
Read moreIf I could only eat one dish for the rest of my life, I would have to give serious consideration to the CFC pita wrap. And that's saying something for an Italian who grew up eating about equal parts home-cooked Italian food, and home-cooked Mexican food at friends' houses. But as good as those styles of food are, I don't know if any one of their dishes achieve the culinary perfection of that pita wrap. It's hearty but not too heavy; the lettuce gives it a nice, fresh crunchiness; the spices are interesting but not overwhelming. I admit that I don't know much about Pakistani food, but I know what good food is, and CFC is good food. It's also nice to know that I'm spending my money in a locally owned and operated family business, but honestly, if the place was a franchised location of multi-national fast food conglomerate headquartered in Guangzhou, I'd probably still eat there because it's just that tasty. The only warning I'd give to a first time patron would be to let them know if you can't handle spicy food. I find the spiciness to be the perfect level, and I would say I have only a moderate tolerance for spicy heat, but I could see someone with a low tolerance getting scorched (my parents, for example, would find the food to be too hot, but they think the Del Taco mild sauce is spicy). Just let them know when you're ordering that you need your food white folks style and they'll either accommodate, or if they can't with a particular dish because the spice is cooked in, they'll steer you toward something more...
