I wrote this about what happened last night. Feel free to share it on Social Media... wherever. Hi, I'm Ruby Petrichor, I'm a Transwoman who got shot multiple times in a drive-by with what luckily was only an Airsoft. It was after playing drums at The Green Pig Monday Blues Jam, which I regularly attend. It was September 1 and occurred just after leaving. I was shot 6 to 8 times; the aim was at my chest. Seeing a gun pointed at me and feeling the impacts hitting my body was unsettling to say the least. It all happened in an instant. The Jam had ended and after saying bye to two of my friends I left and started walking toward Main Street on Fourth South. Only about 150 feet from the door, by the alley, I heard some yell, "Hey!". I turned to look and heard popping sounds then immediately felt several impacts hitting my chest and left arm. I saw a man leaning out the passenger side window of an older white pickup truck, extended cab. He is a white man with short dark hair. As they sped away, I saw the container holding the neon green pellets as he lifted the gun back into the truck. It happened so fast; I was being shot before I had even fully turned my head to see who yelled at me. I checked myself and was trying to process what had just happened and why? Was this a random prank that occurred at about 12: 10 AM. Or was this timed by someone who saw me at The Green Pig? The Green Pig has always been a Trans affirming place, the staff knows me by my name, they treat me like gold, with respect, and always friendly, "I Love This Bar", so much. Most of the musicians who attend the Blues Jam are friendly, but not all. There are plenty of micro-aggressions directed at me. Some muscians never say my name when introducing the band, or intentionally call me a "guy" in the band, even though I always present very feminine. Others ignore me, don't make eye contact, and walk away when I approach groups of musicians. Other than a few friends, I mostly sit alone, I am non-verbal, but converse with my texting pad. Was shooting me a random prank, or was it a message to me and the Trans Community? It occurred less than two minutes after leaving the bar; were they lying in wait for me to leave? I honestly don't know, but someone does! Was this a prelude to more and greater violence toward me and other Transgender individuals? I no longer feel safe or welcome in many places (nothing new). Now I will be forever on constant alert wherever I go. The saddest part is my sense of peace associated with the music community and the Green Pig has been shattered. I detest violence, and I worry what could have happened, or what will happen next time? It could be a real gun, or I could be jumped from behind or a hundred other violent scenarios. I am 70, a DAV, not frail, but not in the best of health. This occurrence will not stop going to The Green Pig and attending other music events. Music is my life; literally all I have left. Damn you who did this to me for whatever reason, now I have to contend with "why me", and " what's going to happen next". The stress Transgender people endure from others who blame us and want to destroy us for simply being who we are (again, "nothing new" in our country's violent history). No matter how anyone tries, you will not succeed in destroying my happiness and dimishing me. I fear and pity individuals who believe they can judge and destroy people who are different from them. I am different! I believe in peace, love, happiness, and treating all people with kindness. My heart and my meager musical talent are my methods of changing people for the better, for the good of all. Most...
Read moreDecided to try the green pig out for the first time last Saturday night, had heard many great things from several people about the food and the atmosphere, and how it was just an all-around good time. Upon arrival my husband and I were greeted at the door by a redheaded gentleman wearing a badge labeled “sunshine “ and he told us to go ahead and look upstairs to see if there was an empty table if not come back down and find him. After going upstairs only to find every table full, we did as he said it went back downstairs and found him and let him know there was nowhere to sit. Sunshine who was referred to as the general manager by the waitress, offered us a seat on the patio and have a cocktail, and he Would come get us as soon as a table became available. After sitting outside for several minutes we realized the waitress was not going to come take our drink order, so I walked to the bar and ordered two Moscow Mule‘s for my husband and I. Sidenote they don’t make very good Moscow Mule‘s, they’re very bitter and not very pleasurable to drink. After sitting outside for about 30 minutes and watching several people seated in empty tables that we were supposed to be able to take, I walked back in to find sunshine and ask him why he hadn’t come back after us so we could be seated. His response was “oh I thought you went upstairs”. after I explain to him that he was the one that seated us on the patio and told us he would be back when the table was available, he became arrogant saying we were allowed to go eat somewhere else, but then quickly turned to the apology saying it was not the bars fault it was his fault that he forgot about us. With a little hesitation we decided it was time to go somewhere else. Definitely disappointed in a place that so highly talked about. Second sidenote if you want a kick butt Moscow mule not too far down the street is The Melting Pot restaurant where a true mixologist will serve you the best Moscow Mule you have ever had along with incredible customer service. The Green Pig is a thumbs down for us and to our disappointment would...
Read moreLets set the scene.. it was Friday night at 11pm the bar was packed and so were all the tables in the dining area, the only place left to sit was a island with bar stools in the dining area. As soon as we sat, we were promptly greeted by our waitor we gave him our order and he came right back with our drinks and had put our food order in. The waitor informed us that our order went in with 6 other orders so it would take just a little longer. We ordered fries and wings which only took about 20 minutes to come out to us. The food was delicious. I am from Buffalo, NY so I know chicken wings and these wings were perfect. The cook did a great job! The fry sauce they make was different than any others I have has, it was way better. I needed to request another drink and our waitor was observing all his tables. We made eye contact, I just smiled at him and rudely shook my glass at him. He just smiled and nodded his head and brought me over another drink. His performance was outstanding, needless to say he deserved every bit of the tip he received. Each staff member I encountered was friendly and polite from the ID checkers, our waitor, and one of the waitresses. They seem to be well staffed, with great service, great food and a friendly atmosphere. Great Job to all the staff and management here. You really hired...
