Summary: Quarters doesn't suck, its just really, really disappointing. Its like someone had this great vision in their head, ran out of money, and then kinda threw everything together haphazardly until it was somewhat ready to be opened. Turns out hype and Instagram can overpower the thirty minute line that exists on a Thursday night at 9PM to enter a mediocre bar.
Games? Check. It is an arcade bar after all. However, don't expect to play any :(. This place is so hyped that you have groups of people just camped out on the machines. "Why do they have a pile of quarters on the table, Derek?" "Because they're never going to leave, and you're going to die wondering what it would have been like to play Killer Queen."
Drinks? Aww yes, the 6 dollar can of IPA. The 10 (?) to 15 (?) dollar cocktails with cool LED inserts. I'm just going off memory here, but everything was just SLIGHTLY too expensive. Probably to overcome the cost of electricity and budget LED strings that are falling off of the main stairs.
Overabundance of pinball machines? Its like they ran out of money for actual arcade games, and just bought some pinball machines to fill space. No one is ever on these, and while pinball is admittedly fun, you come for the games you longingly look at while begrudgingly playing pinball.
Skiball? There are two! Nothing really too bad. I love ski ball.
A Gen 1 XBox ZIPTIED TO AN IKEA COFFEE TABLE WITH ONLY 2 CONTROLLERS? Why do you do this. Why not have four controllers? Why not use a locking bracket? Why not put it in a case? WHY NOT HAVE A GAMECUBE WITH PARTY GAMES? Why not have ANY party games? Whos idea was this.
Bathrooms with two urinals in, what seems like, 1000 sqft? WITH YOUR BUTTS TOUCHING THE PEOPLE WASHING YOUR HANDS?
This place could be cool. it could be great. it could be my new go-to bar. But... instead its just a dimly lit, badly designed arcade bar with overpriced drinks. I give it six months and this place is either a super, mega amazing dive bar or closes.
I probably play too many games for my own good, but damn is this place depressing. Just get Atomic Arcade to sell drinks, and it'll be...
Read moreTL;DR: This place is awesome and you should definitely check it out when you're in SLC. Don't come here if you want that Dave & Busters children's-birthday-party-with-cocktails-for-the-fun-moms-because-Karen's-the-DD environment because you won't get it from this place. Sorry.
This place is awesome. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I really enjoyed the grungy basement/ punk vibe I got from this place. It didn't feel dirty, like I've seen some reviews say. It's not as clean or as expansive in menu as a Dave & Busters, which is a great thing btw because that place is garbage.
I'm from out of town, visiting for a few days, and came here twice.
The first night I was there it was a little crowded and loud (Friday night, definitely to be expected so not even mad) but the bartender was very nice and friendly. I'd initially forgotten to tip him but made sure to do so before I left, definitely no decline in level of service though. Also, while getting set to play Revenge from Mars, my quarter got stuck before I could insert enough for a game. It was easy to find an employee to help out and he was very nice in resolving that issue.
I went back during the afternoon on Saturday, like right when they opened at 4pm, and it was much quieter, and nicer imo. I stuck to the pinball machines and, let me say, their pinball machines are VERY well maintained. Black Rose had a broken FIRE button, but that definitely didn't take away from the game. You could still complete the screen challenges with the flipper buttons with about the same quickness. The machines I played on had great sound, no noticeable burned out lights, nice flipper button responses, and the plungers (on the ones that had it) had smooth action, which is super important for skill shots (looking at you specifically, Hook).
Though I did stick to the pinball machines, it looked like they had a great selection of classic arcade games and had some TV's set up for older console games( and some newer...
Read moreEVERYONE BEWARE!!!!!! My colleague's and I went out to this place since we are very familiar with it and have visited many times. We have brought some visitors from another office of our company in New York to have some fun in this establishment, however it did not turn out as fun as we thought it would be. We walked in with 10 people that were apart of our group and everyone seemed to be ok as we walked in. One of my co-workers was having fun with a camera that was next to the bar that posted his image on a monitor which we thought was an awesome thing to have at a bar, so they decided they would post some more with other people in our group. At this moment some girl that was not wearing anything identifing them selves as security or as an employee of this establishment began harassing my co-workers for posing to the camera that was literally next to the bar. Suddenly they had a few security guards all over them. The security guards came to them and did not let them explain what had happened, they assaulted my colleagues and slapped one of them in the face. I was letting the security team know that I would get them out with no problem, however the security guards there began to get more aggressive towards my colleagues and luckily I was able to get them out of there without any harm happening to anyone else. I highly suggest staying away from this establishment and going somewhere else that will not put any harm to friends or family. This place seems to have changed and has no respect for customers. PLEASE STAY AWAY...
