I am writing this review as I walk out of Boudro’s for the horrible customer experience I just encountered! This is my first time in San Antonio and Texas so I was excited to try some good authentic Texan/Mexican food. Upon researching many restaurants, I came across and settled on this restaurant, Boudro’s on the riverwalk and made a reservation for dinner @ 6:30pm today! I arrived at the restaurant and right off the bat, the front-desk reception was not very warm or welcoming and not up to par (in retrospect) but I didn’t make anything of it right away! I’m always a big believer in giving people the chance to be either good or bad! Even though it’s 30 degrees and very cold outside, I asked to be seated outside under a heated lamp because I wanted a view of the river. The guy who seated me gave me the menu right away so I’m thinking he or someone would ask me if I wanted something to drink or at least come back about 5 minutes later to bring me water or ask me if I wanted to order a drink. 5 minutes pasts, 10 minutes pasts, and still no one has shown up at my table so now I’m beginning to wonder why no one has come to my table. a couple (white) is seated about 10 minutes after me and right away someone comes to their table to take their drink orders and brings it to them about 3minutes later! Meanwhile I’m still waiting and no one has come to me. I say to myself, “I’m not gonna make a big deal about it, I’ll just wait a while longer, maybe they are busy.” Then I said to myself again, “wait a minute, this logic still doesn’t make sense because I see waiters hanging around and the waiter who seated the white couple (who arrived 10 minutes after me) has already been to their table twice while I’m still sitting here waiting to be asked if I want water!” Mind you, it’s already past 15 minutes now and I’m beginning to think to myself perhaps I should just make a complaint and asked for someone to take my order but then I quickly said to myself, “there’s no need for that because I also have the option to just walk out and not spend my money where I’m not welcomed” so, I got up, walked past the reception desk, and said to the same guy who confirmed my reservation when I came in: “I’m gonna leave. I’ve been sitting for over 15 minutes and no one came to my table to take my order!” He just looked at me and I walked out! Such a horrible experience for what I expected to be a great first-time experience for me! I was so looking forward that I even knew exactly what I was gonna order for my first drink and main course meal: The Mezcal Mule and the Mesquite Grilled Texas Quail respectively but guess what, I’ll save my money and spend it in one of the many other good restaurants on the river walk like the guy from the restaurant right next to Boudro’s who was standing outside! I narrated the horrible experience to him as I walked past him and he attempted to get my attention to go into his restaurant! He even promised to serve me right away if I went inside but I had lost my appetite for the evening so I told him I will definitely come back to his restaurant tomorrow since I am in-town till Monday! I will never again go back to this restaurant nor recommend it to any of my family, friends or social media followers just because of the bad experience...
Read moreWas recommended to stop by this restaurant on the Riverwalk in passing by other visitors. Based on our location and the crowd walking, we had taken the street-level route. Because of this, the entrance was difficult to spot. The door opened to another restaurant so an elevator had to be taken to go to the River level.
The elevator is out dated and comes out to the back of the restaurant that does not seem like it is meant for patrons. This area or set up could use some upgrading as it feels like you are walking in an employee-only area.
Upon entry to the back area there is a large machine that cleans the airflow installed due to the pandemic. There was no walking around it so we had to walk in between tables, which may have disrupted guests. Once we essentially left the restaurant and went to where the host was standing outside on the River level, we were able to be greeted and seated.
The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating. The inside felt cramped because it was very busy so we opted to sit outside. There was plenty of seating with a great view of the river and boats passing by. You could also hear the music playing along the river from other restaurants, but it was a very relaxing environment.
My partner and I ordered fresh table-side guacamole, shrimp and grits, and southwest caesar salad. To drink we were recommended the Prickly Pear Margarita, both by visitors and the server. It was fresh and delicious. The service was fairly quick and the server was very attentive to his tables. The guacamole was delicious, but a little bit runny. The menu stated that the guacamole was meant for 2, however, the amount was small and we had plenty of chips left over. Our server was kind enough to bring us some salsa to finish up the chips. The salsa had a hint of smokiness to it and it was delicious.
My partner loved her dish and said it was the best dish she has had on the Riverwalk. She found it to be very flavorful and creamy. My southwest caesar was good, but nothing quite special to it. As a vegetarian, it would have been nice to see a few more vegetarian-friendly options.
The shrimp and grits dish was overpriced for what it was, but the taste was there and my partner still enjoyed it. The food and experience overall was very pleasant and we definitely plan on returning. We were happy to find a place with great food options on...
Read moreA very popular seafood and steak restaurant on the Riverwalk. The steaks are pretty good and they do an excellent job of cooking them. The filet was so tender and easy to chew. I had to come at 5pm on a Sunday since they do not take reservations for party of 1. Thankfully I was seated immediately. Highly recommend making a reservation if able.
Food I ordered the 8 oz black Angus center cut filet and it comes with some roasted vegetables and corn bread. I ordered the steak medium rare and it came out perfectly cooked. A good amount of pink and red without having steak juices gushing out of the meat. The meat was very tender and easy to chew. Sometimes the filets can be difficult to chew but that was not the case here. There was a nice smokey flavor. The outside of the steak wasn't heavily seasoned with salt I think since it wasn't overly salty.
Atmosphere There is indoor and outdoor seating for the restaurant but I was seated deep inside. The interior is nice and it has a sort of fancy feeling. There are mostly tables. The noise level was pretty loud since there were several families with children here but I think this is to be expected at any restaurant on the Riverwalk. It was also very strange that they started vacuuming the entire area that I was in.
Pricing Prices are average for steak or other kind of seafood. I think the quality was justified by the price. Sometimes I did feel like it was slightly more expensive that what I got.
Service Service was good and the staff was friendly. The front desk staff was able to seat me quickly on a Sunday at 5pm for a party of 1. I would highly recommend reservations though because I went at 7pm on a Friday and I was told the walk in time was going to be at least 2 hours.
Other Located on the Riverwalk so you will have to walk up to the restaurant. Not much parking around I think. Highly recommend a...
