We visited Mortons for my daughter's 22 birthday. Party of 5. We ordered appetizers (bacon wrapped scallops, bacon wrapped mozzarella, and oysters on the half shell. All fabulous. Salads (Ceasar, House) were very good. You have to get over the visual of the blob of the house chopped salad on your plate. Once you took a bite, it proved to be very good. Main meal was- sea bass, Cajun Ribeye, 2 filets, and a bone in Ribeye for me. We had creamed spinach, lobster Mac, and a potato dish that were all outstanding. My wife said her sea bass was prepared perfectly and tasted great.. My daughters' (2) filets were good but not over the top. They asked for medium rare and their filets were cooked to medium. Good flavor but just not "knock your socks off" great. The Cajun ribeye was cooked medium rare as ordered and was a great choice- lots of flavor, seasoned well. My bone in ribeye was somewhat of a disappointment. It was recommended by the server and it just didn't hold the standard as a premier steak on the menu. It was a low choice grade steak at best, it had a large amount of "ribbon" tissue that made it hard to cut and most importantly chew. It reminded me of a commercial Brahman cross steer that was not finished in the feedlot. It also came out rare- not medium rare as ordered. We were approached during appetizers, salads, and then when our steaks first came out by a Mgr asking if everything was good. Of course everything to that point was pretty good, but we were never asked about our steaks after we had a chance to eat a little. As the steaks were placed on the table we were asked if we wanted a chocolate cake with ice cream for dessert and of course we obliged. The reasoning for asking as our plates were placed was because it would take 20 min to prepare. They must have been pushing the dessert to clean out inventory cause it was like a chocolate lava cake you get at a national chain. Don't get me wrong, it was great with a tawny port. The ice cream was rich and creamy. We are not complainers by any stretch of the imagination. My wife's facial expression when she saw me chewing my steak for what seemed forever and then looking for my napkin to spit it out only to find it fell off my knee onto the floor. I just chewed for a little longer and prayed I didn't choke when I swallowed. After a few more bites out of the center loin of the steak, I made the decision to sit back, enjoy the conversation, sip on my Glenvilet 12, and wait on dessert as my wife gave me a stinky eye look as a reminder we are there for my daughter's birthday so don't make a scene. We raise cattle, we know good beef, we have aged beef in our freezer, High choice/low prime, so we have a high standard for the experience of a $50+ steak. Some don't know the difference. I didn't make a scene or ask for any favors at the restaurant. That's not how I roll, BUT, if I'm going to drop 8 Franklins on dinner you will get a review, and I will most likely never go back to Mortons for steak. We were there to gather with our daughters and enjoy the evening, we did get that accomplished. If my experience is not the norm or out of the ordinary, I understand, but an establishment of this caliber has no room for excuses, or I'm sorrys. Just...
Read moreMy husband and I don’t have date nights often so we try to be intentional about where we’re going. We want to make sure we’re maximizing our time and hard earned $$$z We were watching an IMAX movie so we figured why not have a nice dinner at Morton’s.
When we arrived for our 6:45 reservations, no one was at the hostess stand. Not one server said hi to us. However, they did very warmly welcome, who I assume to be regulars as they waived at them and said “hello, mr and mrs..” Then a manager, I assume, said they’d have their table and drink ready. Mind you this couple was behind us, and we were waiting at the hostess stand and have no been acknowledged once. A server finally greeted us and asked if we had reservations.. Then the manager came back thanked the server for helping. She handed us off to who I assume was the hostess.. She sat us, and gave us only drink menus. We asked for menus and she said to ask the server…
After another waiting period, the server came to say hello, shared a few drink options and specials.. and we asked for the menu. Long story a little shorter, after he took our drink order, he came back and asked if we had questions about the menu to which we said we didn’t have any.. and it was just tons of waiting.
Our server was kind, but I think their staff needs to help one another more. Why wouldn’t the hostess just bring us menus? Why was every response, I’ll get your server or your server will do that. The hostess also came back to relay a question, and picked up our dishes and asked us to place things on top of the dish. I didn’t understand that. I’ve never had a fine dining experience where I have to help them clean the table. I don’t mind this, but it just caught me off guard as she was already frustrating me.
The drinks and food were clearly behind, and our server was either sat too many tables at once or they were just sorely understaffed.
He was great, but he was drowning. He did his best and when we mentioned our veggies didn’t come out, he and the manager said they happy bring it out with no charge. But we were already nearly done with our meal.
It just wasn’t the experience I was hoping for. I know things happen, but it’s a Saturday night, at a prime...
Read moreManager never got back to my email and that was my first attempt to reach out in regards to my disappointing dinner reservation for my daughters 16th bday. Never heard anything back after a week so I am here writing the review.
We booked a reservation for 800pm. Showed up prior, was told tables getting cleaned. .. 810,820, nearly 830 before getting seated. Hostess that night was rude. Telling us everyone has a reservation and for us to go take a look. We noticed a few other reservations were getting angry as well who also have been waiting.
After complaining, a manager brought out bread and water. When we finally got seated around 830 they said they would bring the bread back for us. After about 8 minutes, our daughter is asking about the bread and "where is she". Well our daughter goes back to the front to get the bread and she tells us the hostess was on her phone instead. So our daughter retrieves it herself.
Nothing special for our daughters bday in form of an offer of dessert or mentioning etc. Many other restaurants will take this extra step to make it special.
My wife and I are so disappointed and angry as we want a special dinner for our daughters bday. We end up skipping drinks and desserts. So the restaurant lost out on an easily $150 or so there. To see our daughter frustrated, hungry, and exhausted from the long wait. Leaves a bad memory instead of a good one.
The only reason I am giving two stars is because of the waiter. I wish I could remember his name but he really went above and beyond on meeting food restrictions and allergies for my wife and daughter.
We expected way more from Mortons. No attempt for apologies or to make anything right at the restaurant or from the managers email I initially recieved about feedback for our dinner service so that's why I am now posting this review. My wife and I own service businesses that evolve around customer satisfaction. We do what we need to at times to go the extra or make it right. When you have a chance to make things right. I would do it before it leads to a bad review. My opinion from one...
