Steak N Fries — Restaurant in San Diego

In the internet age there is no shortage of places to satisfy any type of craving. This does not mean you will like every place you find though. Well, I’m happy to say Steak N Fries did not disappoint. I had a craving for a good cheesesteak and the usual places were already closed. Did a quick search and found this place. I called and spoke to Angel, the owner. It started with the treatment I received on the phone. Angel was friendly and answered my questions without rushing me off the phone. I said we would stop by and we did. Mind you, the restaurant is in Pacific Beach, and we were coming from East County. Totally worth the drive. Upon arrival, I was greeted by Angel who not only remembered speaking with me, but went out of his way to be welcoming. He explained everything about the menu and was patient while my kids ordered. The restaurant only has a couple of small tables, but Angel again went out of his way to set up seating. The cheesesteak was excellent. They use thinly sliced (fresh daily) ribeye meat which is tender, not over cooked, and delicious. You have your choice of cheese, to include the traditional Cheese Whiz, along with Swiss, American, provolone, and mozzarella. I picked up a steak sandwich two nights ago. It had a meaty smell. I didn't think anything was wrong. Immediately not even finishing the sandwich my stomach was cramping and I was progressively ill. I called the shop right away and asked them to check the meat and the young woman was very professional and apologized. She explained how everything is freshly made and kept . I was told that I could return the next day for a refund . Not feeling up to it the next day I called the following to speak to the owner who told me she has nothing to hide and that I should have read the sign that said no refunds .I wish I had kept the other 1/2 of the sandwich that I threw out to return to them. She told me she would not honor her daughters promise. And that I should reach out to the health department because she has nothing to hide . I don't like reporting things that are not serious health concerns to the health dept when they can simply be resolved by checking and recleaning surfaces utensils and meat storage. It's sad to get such a response from such nice people. The refund was $15 I now feel worse about what I needlessly had to go through physically that night and how was was treated as a consumer on the...

Growing up in NYC, I like to think I appreciate a good cheesesteak, and let me tell you - this place makes a GREAT one!

Went in for a quick lunch and left feeling I had made new friends. Incredibly friendly owners that really care about what they are serving you and it shows in the food.

Had a steak with provolone (no whiz for me, thankyouverymuch) with all the veggies and they put it on an amazing Amoroso roll. So many places will make a good sandwich and then put it on a sub-par roll, ruining it. Not these guys. They go the extra mile to bring the Amoroso's in and it's worth it.

Wife is a vegetarian, but got some cheesefries with all the veggies they put on the sandwich and she loved it. Totally filled her up too.

Finished them off with a Franks vanilla creme soda and a Pennsylvania Dutch birch beer (ah childhood memories!).
