I would give this Oren's location in San Francisco zero stars if I could. While I have never stepped foot inside the physical restaurant, I have ordered from them through Caviar six times. On all but one occasion, they have made major mistakes when completing my order.
Today was the absolute last straw, as it was the most unprofessional and unacceptable delivery experience I have ever had by far.
Here's what I ordered: two orders of hummus and two orders of falafel, with four red sauces on the side. Here's what I received: ONE order of falafel, ONE order of hummus, and ZERO red sauces (instead of four). Believe it or not, the missing items alone wouldn't have actually been that big of a deal to me, since it's actually par for the course from this restaurant.
The real issue was this: The hummus they delivered was PACKAGED, as in, the way you would buy it from a supermarket. AND IT HAD AN EXPIRATION DATE STICKER LISTING TOMORROW'S DATE (see attached image). It legitimately appears as if an employee decided that it was a good idea to send a paying delivery customer their oldest, expiring, packaged hummus because they didn't want to have to throw it away. Never in my life have I experienced a more wretched example of "food service."
And like I said initially, they've royally screwed up all but one of my six orders. On July 21, I only received one order of hummus when I ordered two. On July 22, the order took over two hours to be delivered and the $7 sweet potato fries "with red pepper mayo" that I ordered didn't come with red pepper mayo. On July 29, I only received one order of falafel when I ordered two. On August 24, the $7 sweet potato fries "with red pepper mayo" didn't come with any red pepper mayo again, and there was only one red sauce when I explicitly requested four. (On August 10, by some miracle it seems, they actually got my order right.)
I have tried to give this restaurant a fair shake. I have been a loyal Oren's customer since they opened their doors in downtown Palo Alto many years ago. That location, in person and through Caviar, has always served me well and never let me down.
I never write bad reviews on Yelp. I never call restaurants to complain. But my experience with this Oren's location in San Francisco has been so atrocious that I felt it my duty to do both. The employee and manager I spoke to on the phone were nice enough, but it's too late for apologies. I will never order from them again, and I suggest you avoid them as well.
Oren's is pretty tasty, but it is absolutely not worth the headache if ordering delivery from the San Francisco location. They have permanently lost my business and I will be telling anyone who will listen not to go there or order from them.
Extra note: I just remembered that about four of the six times I ordered from here, the falafel was cold and...
Read more"Yay! I'm a fan" but it was dicey at first. My family went for a late dinner and the dining room was slammed. We agree to get grab some dishes to go and head back to the hotel to relax after a long day of tourism. We ordered a couple of humus dishes, cauliflower and beef kabobs. Oh, lemme interrupt this epic story to point out Oren's has a separate area for take out/ to-go. It's almost like an independent storefront supplied by its very own kitchen. A brilliant design that keeps the sit down area free of the "grab-n-go" customers. Okay, back to the story. We had about a 10 minute wait for our food, not bad at all considering the line of people in both the to-go section and the sit down area. We grabbed our grub and walked the 20 minutes back to our hotel, go up to our room, kick off our shoes and unpack our food. At this point, you probably guessed our order was wrong. We had an extra dish of cauliflower and were missing our $20 beef kabobs. Oh, the silver lining? I was blessed with the opportunity to take the 20 minute walk back to address the deficiencies so my family can relax and eat since everyone was beat. #FamilyForLife
I made the walk, fuming the entire time, walked into the shop and told the lady at the register my issue. She called the supervisor or manager over and he immediately remembered my name and order (surprising given the amount of orders they were churning). He instantly apologized, got the kitchen to make a new order, had his manager came to apologize and they gave me a gift card for my troubles. Five minutes later, I had my kabobs and was on my way.
I know you're reading these reviews to base your decision on the food and I've not even mentioned the quality of such however, the way Oren's corrected their mistake earns a heightened level of attention. Since you muscled through this much of my story; lemme say the food was spectacular, the humus was both flavorful and plentiful and I would...
Read moreAfter a long day visiting Union Square we wanted to find something Mediterranean to keep the meal a bit clean. We happened upon Oren’s Hummus as one it was one of the only spots open within a 1/2 mile radius of our location and two the food looked great in the reviews. So glad we did.
We just so happened to arrive during the time the GM was training new staff which created a very enjoyable experience as we were able to observe everything from normal hosting to a nice ‘how-to’ on wine service. The GM (Randall I believe) even said ‘you picked the right restaurant tonight’ and that was a correct sentiment.
The food made the night even better. We ordered the Fried cauliflower (amazing) and potato Bourekas (good but not memorable) as starters. For entrees, the Rice bowl w Falafel, and the Hummus w Lamb - both were great, fresh and tasty. But the star of the night was the pita. I ordered the white pita but they also had wheat and gluten free options available as well. It was very good, soft, tasty and went well with everything . I dipped it in the hummus, sandwiched it with the lamb and even dipped it in the pesto labane that came with the cauliflower, haha so good. They had nice wine bottle specials which were great to see as well. We tried the Poseidon Chardonnay wine special which was a good touch.
Overall great food but a nicer experience with welcoming staff and a manager that earned my respect and clearly cares about the staff and customers. Unfortunately no pics this time as we were just busy enjoying the night after a long day at the painted ladies and Union...
