Glass of wine--an amazing find in SF Financial District. San Francisco Wine Society is a hidden gem on Merchant Street [alley] off Battery street. The beautifully decorated sitting area of padded leather chairs and tables and comfortably dark and subdued decorating are the perfect backdrop to enjoy a great glass of wine and light bites. Sat at the bar and chatted up Chris and Erik, the sommelier, who told me that there are over 50 wines by the glass on the menu. Rare to find wine bars that serve so many choices from other countries. Debated between having a glass of French, Italian, Greek, Croatian, and Spanish wine. Erik was able to speak expertly about each choice and guide me to something I really enjoyed. We recently visited the Wine Society in San Francisco and had a mixed experience. The food was delightful, and the wine flights were well-curated and enjoyable.

However, the service left much to be desired. From the start, we felt as though our business was not wanted. Our server seemed disinterested and unengaged. When we tried to discuss one of the wines we particularly enjoyed, we received no interaction or enthusiasm in return. It was disappointing to see a lack of passion for the wines they were selling, which unfortunately dampened what could have been a fantastic experience.

We came here for a work event. I initially booked the bocce court for 1 hour since our party was under 12. I had to adjust the reservation when our party exceeded 12 people. This meant that we had to book the bocce court for 2 hours with a $500 minimum. Although the wine selection was quite broad, the least expensive bottles were in the $40-50 range. I wanted to order the sliders but they were $200+ for a dozen. Despite the prices, the service was great. We ended up w the flatbreads which were a big hit. The wines were chilled in a bucket of ice.
