A modern Greek gem with soul and simplicity
Souvla is one of those places that makes you appreciate how beautifully uncomplicated food can be when done right. Tucked into the heart of San Francisco, this modern Greek eatery delivers fresh, flavorful, and well-balanced dishes in a relaxed and friendly setting.
The menu is straightforward, but every item feels intentional. I had the lamb wrap, which was tender, juicy, and perfectly complemented by crunchy radish, fresh greens, and a sprinkle of cheese — all wrapped in soft, warm pita. It was one of those dishes that looks modest but leaves you fully satisfied.
The accompanying salad was crisp and bright, with a lovely balance of herbs, feta, and light vinaigrette. The space itself is casual but inviting, with plenty of sunlight and a clean design that feels distinctly Californian with Mediterranean heart.
What surprised me most was dessert — the Greek frozen yogurt is a must-try. I had one topped with sour cherry syrup, and it was incredible: tangy, creamy, and refreshing. My friend went for the honey drizzle, and it was equally delicious.
Their wine list is thoughtfully curated, and a glass of white paired perfectly with the meal. Service was fast, kind, and helpful without hovering — exactly what you want for a casual night out or relaxed lunch.
Souvla strikes a rare balance: fast-casual ease with full-bodied flavor and care. A San Francisco favorite I’ll absolutely be...
Read moreFood was average. I had freebird all natural chicken salad. The salad had few pieces of chicken compared to the price. It was full of radish which was not mentioned in the description. I went back inside and saw already the table is cleaned. So I asked the young lady at the register about it. Alas, she doesn’t understand English at all. She politely kept saying “yes” and “no problem" without understanding what I’m saying. She spoke with another server to talk with me. But that person only knows how to say “yes-yes” no matter what I am saying. One point I have realized that it’s useless to explain the situation....
Read moreIf you grew up in the Balkans (Greece, Bulgaria) or Cyprus, you'll notice that this is bland-Americanized Greek food. Still they use fresh ingredients and the place is clean. Everything here is under-seasoned, roasted potatoes are too greasy, need oregano salt, pepper and garlic. Greek salad doesn't come with kale just FYI. The good thing here is that they offer vegan lamb which is very good. It's best enjoyed in a salad because their pita bread is bland and pasty-- it's not that difficult to make it in-house folks!! French fries are good and so is the frozen yogurt. Service is ok overall, if they're too busy it might take a while to get your order but they...
