Kinda mid. The fish is fresh. But the sushi is just okay. 2/3 of our rolls were uninspired. The wiki wiki was a bit bland.. like a Philadelphia roll with no creaminess... and the midori basically felt like a more expensive (but not much better) California roll. The nigiri/sashimi is probably the move here but that's not what I personally go for. The tanpopo roll was pretty solid. Highlight of the meal. All of the rolls were very wide so they're difficult to handle and eat in one bite. Kobe beef sliders were tasty, but very pricey. $15 for 2 sliders?? It probably would have tasted the same with a lower quality beef. Finally, the cookie dough roll. It didn't blow us away, but the creativity and presentation is nice. I think the brownie roll might be the way to go.. but even then, I' d had plenty of better deserts before. They have tea, but it's on the desert menu.. which you get at the end of the meal. I would have prefered that on the drink menu at the start. There's better or more affordable sushi around, so I wouldn't come back. Don’t let the presentation fool you.

While the staff are awesome, I just wanted to take opportunity to sh!t on the head chef who also owns blue barn, tipsy pig, etc. Places like this only exist for the sake of guys on dates to spend more than necessary to impress a lady. You, your restaurant group and it’s investors can all get out of my beloved SF as quick as possible. Can’t wait for the recession to hit so your ridiculous margins get halved and your concepts get sent back to something resembling normalcy in terms of price. Won’t be back and I encourage anyone else reading my rant to do the same. Sweetgreens is now in the hood and I can’t wait to see blue barn outta here now that there’s another salad spot on the block. Much less one with a great app, subscription model for discounts, and value based prices.

Japanese restaurants are typically not the most innovative in their traditional culinary art. But Mamanoko is truly one of a kind in that it's a bold fusion of Japanese and Mexican. Here, you can get all the traditional stuff you want, and they make excellent sushi and sashimi. But if you are an experimental eater, you get to taste what make this restaurant unique. The dining experience you get from their modern fusion creations is beyond amazing. Everything from flavor to presentation is not what you'd expect from a Japanese sushi restaurant. Their service is excellent with attentive staff that actually has a good sense of humor in a classy and chic venue. Trust me, you won't be disappointed here. We are definitely coming back again.

Echoing a few other reviews here — the service was not just bad, they were very rude. I was sat 30 minutes late — reservation was at 7 and sat down right around 7:30. We waited outside in the cold for that long because no room to wait outside. All fine…things happen restaurants get busy. I get it. But not a single person apologized or acknowledged that we were being sat late. The hostess was even rude to me when I went to check in at 20 minutes late! Then I mentioned to the waiter that we were sat late and that no one acknowledged it—this was after we paid the bill so I wasn’t looking to get anything. I was simply trying to share the point in case it happens to someone else in the future. instead of apologizing for the experience he proceeded to aggressively lecture me about how they can’t kick tables out because it would be rude. I get it — I’m empathetic to the difficulty of running a busy restaurant. But a little kindness and acknowledgement goes a long way. I’d just say poor customer service all around. Disappointing and will...

Our waiter was super nice and helpful, offered great suggestions. The sushi was tasty and other dishes were good too.

Someone I was eating with had a nut allergy, so we asked our server if they could do one of the dishes without nuts. The waiter was very nice and said he would look into what they could do.

When a different server came to deliver the dish, they admonished us for even requesting a modification to the dish, going on a diatribe about how the head chef is not there today but that we should never ask for any modifications ever and when we come back to not even bother. It was such a weird outburst, especially around an allergy related request. Not sure why you're talking to me about coming back to the restaurant when you create such a bad service experience that I will just go somewhere else.

Not really sure what that one dudes problem was, but he really ruined the service experience for us, which was a stark contrast to our waiter who was super nice and helpful (and even helped us get a dessert without nuts...
