We have walked past Tara soooo many times over the years, and for some weird unknown reason, we have never dined here. Boy did we miss out! Came in on a Saturday early evening just after they opened for dinner. The dining area is pretty small as are most in SF. Nice decor all around, and clean. Our servers, as there were a couple, were super friendly and explained everything we needed to know about the menu. Plus, they start you off with complimentary crispy roti and some sauces to dip into.

Ok so now on to the food... We love our Indian food, and for us, spicy is always great. Our server did take the time to ask us too, which I appreciate! Chicken chilli - beautiful with a slight crispyness and tons of flavor in the chicken and the sauce. Coconut lamb curry - tender (melt in your mouth) lamb chunks in a smooth and flavorful curry sauce Saag Paneer - my benchmark. . . excellent, flavorful and tastes like it was truly wonderful with large chunks of paneer that you cut and swirl in the saag We ordered basmati rice as our base for the meal (did not need another flavored side to interfere with the other items) And, of course you MUST have garlic naan.. . this was crispy on top and still tender to pull apart and dig in to the sauces.

The price was very reasonable for the quality and amount of food we were given. In fact, we sat there and ate waaaay too much at the table. Should have boxed some up for later... but we didn't...LOL Overall, this was a great meal and we will absolutely keep Tara on...

Decent food with great portion at a good price point. Careful leakproof packaging for takeaways. And I love that they allow choosing spicy level (mild/medium/spicy). I chose medium but mild is probably better for a weakling like me (it’s not immediately spicy but the aftertaste will kick in and bring the heat).

Overall the food is ok but could be better and more flavorful. Medium chances of coming back Masala chai and mango lassi are good level of sweetness and I love that they were light in cardamom, but I do want the masala chai to have more spice and bit of heat. Highly recommend the mango lassi. Saag paneer is good would recommend Butter chicken is rich and creamy but I do prefer a more pronounced tomato flavor Garlic naan could be much better. I was super disappointed by this. Literally cold soft naan with a small amount of garlic spread on it Sauces are quite good though they’re a bit too bland/flat and too sweet for me. Chicken momos are fine. I personally don’t like momos so can’t comment if it’s good or not. My friends thought they...

I came to this restaurant after seeing reviews with 4 friends, the interiors were excellent, we ordered 4 items channa masala(extra spicy), chicken curry (extra spicy), Puri, Naan. We ordered at 8:15 and the order came 40 mins late, we asked why it was late and the reply was " it will come according to the order number" the funny part is 2 tables came after we ordered they got there order. Finally I took a bite of my Puri with Chenna masala. The Poori was thick and rubbery, the Chenna was bland and they sprinkled chilli flakes (Pizza condiment) to spice the dish up ( Wrong practice), I don't usually complain if the food is not that good, but this was another level, I did not even take another bite. We tried to explain the situation and requested the server that we speak to the manager. Despite the server not informing the manager, we got the cheque, another co-worker of the waiter tried to help us, but it was too late, no action was taken and they said we'll do something next time.

I'M VERY SURPRISED WITH THE 4.3 RATING FOR THIS FOOD...

We liked everything! Portion sizes are good, what you’d expect for an Indian restaurant, with a great ration of sauce to protein. In terms of spice level, they offer mild, medium, spicy, very spicy. We chose medium to place on the safe side, while you could definitely taste the spice, it wasn’t in the slightest unbearable, so we would creep into the “spicy” range next time. The atmosphere is relaxed, with take-out orders being picked up frequently - don’t be misguided by the looks on the outside, this is a bustling business rewarded for its tasty food and great service. Why not dine in? The service is quick, thoughtful, and attentive without being in your face. The decor is clean and comfortable, with culture motifs galore (but tastefully).

Came here on a Tuesday night with a friend and there was no line! Good: - We got an appetizer really quickly and it was good! - The naan sampler here was a great quantity - 3 naans for about the price of 2 - The saag paneer here was solid, I liked how large it was since I brought it back for another meal - The prices are good here, great value and good service, food comes out fast. Bad: - Pretty casual place, not too crowded and not very fancy Overall a good place for a quick bite and really solid Indian food!

We used to get the butter chicken from here. The sauce was rich and delicious and it was served with chunks of really tender chicken breast. I told family from home that when they visited that they had to try this dish. Unfortunately, they recently replaced their quality chunks of chicken with chewy, fatty, and inexplicably crunchy strings of chicken. It honestly feels like they're serving us from their scrap bucket. I don't understand the change, but they're delusional to charge the same price for it.
