If you're looking for the best bagels in SF, go to the Epicurean Trader on Market St. Ever since they started serving boichik bagels, I think they're better than Schlok's. The bagels are lightly toasted, that pairs excellently with the flavorable smoked salmon. The onion adds a nice crunch and freshness. The capers are plentiful and large balls of salty goodness. If you want even more flavor, switch out the regular schmear for the scallion schmear; you won't regret it.
I would like to give this place 5 stars, but I am quite upset that the menu prices are not accurate. Looking at the receipt, I was charged $19 for the open bagel smoked salmon, when the list price was $17, plus another $1 for a different schmear, which wasn't on the menu nor communicated by the cashier. After tax and tip, I paid over $25 for my bagel. While that is a lot for a bagel, I don't mind paying more for literally the best bagels in San Francisco. I'm talking about bagels that rival New York city bagels. I want to tell everybody about how amazing these bagels are. But, an unexpected $3 charge leaves a bad taste in mouth.
I looked at the menus more closely to see if I had made a mistake. The $17 price is listed twice at eye level: one on the printed menu and one on the display case. Then, I noticed the less obvious menu I hadn't noticed before against the far wall behind the counter, and high up near the ceiling that listed $19. How is the consumer supposed to know which is the correct price? $17? $19?
I thought about raising the issue with the cashier. But at the end of the day, they're just doing their job. It's not there fault if the system rings up the item at $19 or if the menu prices are wrong. This falls on the manager to make sure the menu prices and the system prices are accurate.
In summary, The Epicurean Trader has the best bagels in town. I think it is worth the price. But do not trust the...

Read moreNice staffs! But it’s hard to convince me to shop there when there is so many $$$pecialty grocery/cafe/ wine cheese sandwich places in Castro/mission/Duboce neighborhood. Sometimes you run out of necessities like orange juice, almond milk, yogurt or something but you don’t even see the brands you like in there. So even it’s closer to where you live, you have to walk to whole foods bite rite mollie instead and on the way to there you probably pass by a few wine juices coffee bakery places…and probably cheaper !!! So what’s the catch ??? It makes more sense this is in marina or ferry building .. but it’s in the middle of an extremely walkable neighborhood mixed with residential and commercial … maybe consider having more everyday living items available and beat your competitors with cheaper prices? Like we really don’t need another place that sells...
