I miss the Pappy McGregor's, it's just not the same anymore with Craft House Kitchen here now. They painted the place grey inside which has a cold feeling vs the warm comfortable brown color which used to have a fire pit outside in the back but they got rid of. The other thing I hate is the darn hotel in the back, you have people looking out their hotel windows right into the restaurant it's just very uncomfortable period, they look right at people eating or drinking in the back. They never should of sold that back parking lot because there was no hotel there as it was all private but not anymore that's all gone. Also what I don't like is it's full of tourists hardly any locals and two there's no imported beers, it's all local lousy beers where the Pappy McGregor's had all the great imported beers on tab. I knew the original owners of 1865, it's nothing like it was but Pappy McGregor's back in 2010 brought that back after it was abandoned for several years, they brought in great Irish food, great beer, live Irish music etc where they didn't change anything until Craft House kitchen came, that's where it was all changed after that, sorry but I just don't like what Craft House Kitchen did to the place. Pappy McGregor's was mostly locals which was good for the community but that is all gone now. The developers from the hotel next door expanded their hotel after Pappy McGregor's and just completely ruined the privacy, it basically made the place for tourists which really saddens a lot of people now. No longer a gem for San Luis Obispo. I added the original Pappy McGregors so people can see what I'm talking about how better it was before vs...
Read more1865 Kraft House & Kitchen offers a dining experience that seamlessly blends comfort and sophistication. During our visit for lunch, we were delighted to find a dog-friendly, alfresco dining area, which made the experience all the more enjoyable for us and our furry companion.
We indulged in three standout dishes: Salt and Pepper Calamari, Korean Fried Chicken Wings, and the 1865 Classic Burger.
The Salt and Pepper Calamari was a revelation. Perfectly cooked, the calamari was tender with a delightful crispness. The seasoning struck a harmonious balance, enhancing the natural flavors without overpowering them. Each bite was a testament to the chef's skill.
Next came the KFC Wings, which were nothing short of spectacular. Coated in a flavorful glaze, the wings delivered a satisfying crunch followed by a burst of sweet and spicy notes. They were a crowd-pleaser, leaving us craving more.
Finally, the 1865 Classic Burger stole the show. Juicy and cooked to perfection, the patty was complemented by the tangy pickled onions and a medley of fresh toppings. The bun was soft yet sturdy, holding everything together beautifully. It was a classic done right, and a must-try for burger enthusiasts.
The alfresco dining setup added a charming touch, allowing us to enjoy the fresh air and relaxed vibe of the restaurant. The staff were attentive and accommodating, ensuring both we and our dog felt welcome.
Overall, 1865 Kraft House & Kitchen is a gem in SLO, offering dishes that are both comforting and innovative. Whether you're a local or just passing through, this spot deserves a place on your...
Read moreI had high hopes for this restaurant. I had heard a ton of great things about it so had to check it out for myself. I reserved a table for 12 to celebrate my bday. The service was OK. Granted, the poor guy was working really hard considering he was the only server in the whole place at lunch on a holiday (Presidents Day). I kinda felt bad for him actually 'cause he was running around inside and outside, taking care of everyone. So due to that reason, I'm not gonna rate the customer service too hard (though he could still have been a bit friendlier). However, we expected the food to be a lot better than it was. We ordered burgers, prime rib sliders w/ au jus, flat breads, etc. None of the meals really stood out to any of us so doubt we will be back. We just went to Taste the other day and for about the same price point ($15-18), you'll be a lot more pleased at Taste than 1865. The drinks are good though! Our group talked about everything afterwards and we were all in agreement that for the price point of the menu, we would have fared better elsewhere. I was bummed too when the server literally turned me down when I asked to take a photo of our group for my bday. :( I know he was busy but it would have taken him like 3 seconds. Oh well. Kinda bummed about choosing 1865 for my Bday celebration. There were sooooo many choices in SLO and I regret choosing 1865. But I do have to say, they have done an awesome job with the place!! I've been there many times when it was other restaurants and it was always so dark in there. Now it's light, airy and the decor was...
