Art Central — Attraction in San Luis Obispo

I'm disappointed in the way we were treated today. I came in with my 12yr old son to buy supplies where he was using his OWN money that HE earned by working. When it was time to pay for his purchase he was helped by a female cashier. He mentioned he had a school id. I walked by the counter to see if he needed my help with anything and I asked him if he had used his school id to get the 15% off discount that they advertise in their window. She answered for him and said rudely, "it's for college students." Well first off, this is not the first time we have been here. Last time one of the other employees was very nice and had also told us about the discount. I didn't challenge it this time, as she seemed easily peeved, but on the way out I had my son take a picture of their sign. It clearly states student id. Not college student id. He is a student and had his id but was ignored. We will be back, but will be avoiding her...

My next door art supply. Always friendly when I go in and happy to answer questions. So many items to look at... crafters and creators beware, this is a bountiful shop. Pens, paint, paper (books, rolls, sheets, small to xtra large!), accessories, and so much I haven't yet paid attention to.

Also, they have a show room of art that seems to take a seasonal transition. I love wandering through the showroom to see what they hung up. In the show room is a huge table where they hold occational art classes... I haven't yet been to one, my work schedule is too wonky to allow my availability for a class currently. Maybe...

The prices here are great with a huge variety of art supplies. My favorite thing was the cute gallery with local artists! Such a unique and friendly place with helpful staff! So glad I stopped in. 😁

Update: Bought my first set of professional watercolors on this visit and they were such a great price and by far the best watercolors I’ve used! Thank you for providing our community with reasonably priced goods for artists. I will definitely be back to buy more quality supplies here...
