Gives âfarm-to-tableâ a bad name.
Tl:dr Low quality ingredients, skimpy portions, careless preparation at a semi-premium price. Save your 20 bucks, your neighborhood McDonald's puts more effort into the breakfast they serve.
Visiting SLO, I stopped into the Apple Farm Restaurant on 12/2/2021 for breakfast. Itâs counter-service, and for $18 plus tax and tip, I ordered two eggs over medium, sausage, sourdough toast, fresh fruit in lieu of potatoes, and coffee.
Grabbed some joe from the coffee bar and found a seat. About ten minutes later the food runner dropped off my meal: two tiny sausage patties which looked a bit on the dry side, a very thin slice of sourdough âtoastâ which had only the barest hint of being anywhere near a toaster (âwarm-ish breadâ would be more accurate) a few nice-looking berries in a small bowl, and the âover mediumâ eggs which jiggled as the runner set the plate down. As I took a fork to the eggs, a stream of uncooked egg-white ran across the plate and puddled near the meager sausage patties. I flagged down the runner and requested that the kitchen try âover-mediumâ again.
Half a minute later I heard an agitated male voice from the kitchen yelling âover medium!â, âover medium!â. Figured this was not a good sign.
When the food returned, it was less appealing than the first time. The same sausage and âtoastâ had clearly been re-plated after spending a few more minutes under a heat lamp. I know better than to send food back to a grumpy cook a second time, so I tried to eat it. The bread was chewy and stale, the sausage was so dry it was hard to cut, and tasted surprisingly bland (how to do even do that to sausage?), and the over-medium eggs still had uncooked egg-white glistening up at me. Itâs possible that the handful of berries may have been the best part of the meal, but I wouldnât know as they never made it back to the table. After a couple of bites, I gave up, finished my $23 cup of coffee and left to find a place that cared a bit more about the food they serve. Which would be pretty much anywhere else.
Iâm tempted to say that the staff at the Apple Farm Restaurant were mailing it in, but they werenât even trying that hardâŚthey clearly give zero hoots about the food they put...
Read moreFOR THE LOVE OF GOD SOMEBODY CONTACT GORDON RAMSAY!! đ This place was very sad, and from reading other reviews, it isn't a result of the plandemic. Whoever is running this place has clearly given up. When we arrived I was shocked to see the parking lot empty considering it's October. I also regret not reading reviews before eating at the restaurant, but as most people who visit here, they probably expected it to be good food and with plenty of apple related items. The prices are indeed the only thing keeping this restaurant afloat. I ordered steak & eggs but got burnt eggs and a tiny burnt, unseasoned piece of meat. Then when I asked for a refire of a new steak they brought me an even bigger piece of meat that was now seasoned (probably to TRY and mask the rotten smell) which I could smell wasn't fresh before he even placed it on the table. It was also rare and beige colored. I ended up eating my then cold burnt eggs and the burnt piece of meat and left.
I sadly ate the meal out of pity (since we were heading up the coast right after we ate)and didn't want to be difficult, BUT if the waiter had come over to ask if everything was ok (which he clearly saw it was not and avoided us) I would have explained in a polite way and thanked him for putting a new order of steak in for me, and explained the issue, but he didn't. This why I'm writing this long af review.
PLEASE someone give this place a facelift and better food before the health inspector shuts this place down. I would be sad to see this quaint little landmark go under due to...
Read moreI'm from east of Visalia, CA. and used to stop by regularly when on busness trips to buy a blackberry pie, to take home, but I hadn't been there in approximately two years. The young man at the counter explained the restaurant has new owners (approx 1-1/2 yrs ago). I explained I wanted to buy a pie, he said ok, he stated he was checking to see if there was a fresher pie for us. I said great. I went to the restroom and my girlfriend waited for the pie and pay. The young man told her it was already pre-cut, so she paid for the pie and we drove home. When I got home and opened the box, the pie pieces were spread apart to appear as a whole pie. It was very apparent this pie was previously cut, and a piece served to someone, but then presented to her as a whole pie $27.00 + change. All the pies I bought in the past had never been pre-cut. I'm really upset by the dishonestly of this. I want my money back due to this dishonest practice. I took a picture of this pie. I don't know if I will receive reimburse on my card, but I will never return. I was really disappointed, never under old ownership did this ever happen. Shame on you young man at the counter who did this, and the ownership of they allow this practice. I wished I had seen it prior to purchasing, I would never had bought the pie. I guess I relied on my experience from past service and product. Shame on them. I tried to call, but it was approx. 11:45 am, no one answered, (website said closed at 11:00 am, so I will...
