Sunday July 17 8:45PM Shin’s ‘$h!+’ Sushi! Are you jonesin’ for a night of horrific service, disgusting food and sake slamming chefs macerating your sushi and sashimi order with serrated knives, to the tune of $103.87 not to mention the frustration of an incomplete order, lukewarm “HOT” sake, a dude wait staff that calls females “guys” and who is so unaware of his tables that when a couple leaves after 15 minutes of being ignored and a group of three people walk out the door for the same reason he takes no notice!!! Worse still another couple is seated at the table and NONE of the tableware is replaced with clean glasses or napkins!!!
If so, then SHIN’s is definitely the place for you!!
UNDOUBTEDLY THE WORST SERVICE and WORST FOOD in SLO if not on the Central Coast.
After patiently waiting for 25 minutes for the Sapporo and “HOT” sake that we ordered when we were seated we caught the attention of the male server and asked if our beverages could be brought. The sake was unacceptably lukewarm so we caught the male servers attention again and he took away the undesirable sake and brought a carafe of hot sake.
He then nonchalantly turned to the table alongside ours and proceeded to take the order of the four people at that table who had arrived 15 minutes after we entered!!!! My companion brought the incident to male waiter’s attention and he promised to place our order ahead of the other guests. After waiting another interminable period of time and while watching the chefs slam sake we queried about when our order of appetizers might arrive. The appetizers and certain items of the meal were doled out in confusing order. Sadly the teensy weensy rectangle of rice under the shredded nigiri was puke worthy. The rice tasted like it had been cooked and then sat dehydrating in cold storage UNwrapped. We think the gyozo was from the frozen food section of Costco. It was absolutely not traditional gyozo. The nigiri appeared to have been butchered with a serrated knife. As for presentation a barfworthy ZERO for appearance. The sashimi was never delivered until I convinced waiter dude to read the menu and even then he had to verify the order with the “chef”. It was swiftly brought to the table accompanied by bumbled apologies.
To add insult to the hour and a half of abysmal service, none of the used table service was cleared, we were NEVER asked how the meal was or if we desired more beverages or a dessert. In fact- the experience was a fiasco of failed service, frustration, and as I write prayers that I don’t wake up in the middle of the night having to t’rup!!! Oh, one last mention, the filthy worn menus should have been a giveaway that we were in for a most unusual experience.
The ONE star rating is for the bottled...
Read moreI used to come here all the time back when it was Shin's and have been a couple times as Aisuru, but it had been almost a year. I had jury duty across the street and was made aware of their 20% off with a juror badge special. So I decided I might as well go in again, since I love sushi. Now I know what to expect from them and always have and to that point, they don't disappoint. If you come here expecting premium nigiri and sashimi than this is the wrong place. If you are looking for a good poke bowl, or some American/Californian style sushi rolls at a good price, then this is the place to go. The selection is pretty good, unfortunately they were out of a couple things we wanted so we improvised. They have great daily specials and the large beer with a $0.99 large sake is always a favorite. The 1/2 price rolls are always a tasty and inexpensive way to eat here. Their special rolls are all pretty good too. I frequent the Backdraft, Extasea, and Hot Grover Beach Night. This time I tried the Sunshine and the Dragon. The dragon was very good, the bonito flakes really help balance out the sweetness of the eel sauce. The Sunshine roll was pretty good, but the cream cheese pretty much overwhelmed everything. The couple bites that had smaller amounts of cream cheese were really good, spicy jalapeno with the sweet mango to complement the baked salmon. Overall pretty good as usual, and...
Read moreAll you can eat is a scam... They supposedly give you 3 rounds to order in 90 minutes for $24.99-- a great deal right? It would be if they actually served you. My group of 7 (including myself) showed up at 7:30 PM (they close at 10:00), excited for all you can eat sushi. We put in our order for the first round shortly after, and waited OVER AN HOUR for it to be served to us. At 9:30 they finally took our order for the second round. Cue another 50 minute long wait for our food. When it finally did come out at 10:20, almost half of the rolls we ordered were missing, and they informed us that it was too late and could not take our order for the third round. To add insult to injury, they wanted to charge us full price for the all you can eat, despite getting all of our orders wrong and skipping out on an entire round of eating. After a bit of arguing, they agreed to comp just 1 of our 7 meals because of their mishap. I understand restaurants can be short staffed, and all you can eat certainly presents some challenges, however this was egregious and left my entire group with bad tastes in our mouths. Needless to say I would not recommend going here if you want decent service and to receive the food...
