Emporium is easily one of the most beautiful restaurants I have ever dinned at. I really enjoyed the atmosphere. It was very modern but kept a cozy and relaxed feeling. I had gone to Emporium to celebrate my mother's birthday. We came for dinner and were seated right at 7:45, the time of our reservation. The wait staff were very friendly and helpful.
We ordered the fougasse bread for the table. It was a very good loaf but on the smaller side. The butter was delicious though. I was a little surprised that bread was considered an appetizer at a restaurant like this. For my entree, I ordered the steak frites. Unfortunately, an hour later they came. While some portions of this steak were cooked to a very nice medium, other portions varied between well and medium well. What threw me off most was that my steak was served slightly over cooked yet cold. It was as if it sat underneath a heat lamp, forgotten about. Another person in my party complained of a similar issue regarding their fish. Clearly overcooked yet served cold. Maybe our ticket was forgotten about and left under a heat lamp. We will never know. As for the presentation of my dish. The steak was nicely cut and placed next to a bed of french fries. The steak frites were served without sauce, which again surprised me. To compensate for this lack of sauce, a circular disk of butter was placed on top. It was very good butter with some spices mixed in, but it looked like someone had put a bar of soap on top of my lukewarm steak. As for the flavors. They were lacking. A sauce of some sort would have done wonders. The flat iron steak is nothing to write home about, but for the price paid, I had hoped for a little more than a dry leathery piece of meat. The butter soap bar saved this dish and made it just good enough to eat. The fries were excellent though and so were the side potatoes and green beans. Out of curiosity, I tasted the mahi fish dish and chicken dish other members of my party had ordered. The chicken was was "just okay". It was kind of bland. The chicken was also on the colder side upon being served. As for the mahi, easily one of the tastiest types of fish. Bland. The mahi was bland and overcooked.
Overall I am disappointed with my experience here. I want to love this place. It is such a beautiful restaurant. Unfortunately my experience here will only lead me away from this establishment as the relationship between quality and price is...
Read moreBe warned. The great remarks on here are written by those who don’t know what good food is and by those who were too drunk to taste how bland the food is. Save your time and your money. You are better off giving your business to Zunzies, which is conveniently next door to this place. (Order the GodFather Sandwich and thank me later)
To start. I ordered the onion soup. I wish I were exaggerating when I say It was more cheese than soup. I’d say it was closer to a macaroni and cheese than it was a soup. The scallop appetizer was undercooked. My mom and I shared the mushroom pasta. The noodles were also undercooked. We ordered dessert hoping this would be a different experience. Just like the google reviews, the menu descriptions are misleading. We got the Bombe Alaska and Paris Brest. The Bombe Alaska is bizarre. What is described on their menu is better in theory than it is in execution. They pour alcohol over the merengue and light it on fire to “bake” it. It’s cool to watch but sadly my dessert was overpowered by the taste of alcohol. The Paris Brest is described as a “blackberry mousse, coconut tuile, chai crumb, berry medley.” What was plated was an oat bagel with blackberry jam and a pink colored powder. No mousse. I nearly sent it back thinking we received the wrong dessert. Nothing on that plate was as described. Im still perplexed. In fact, I regret not taking pictures of our food. That alone would suffice as proof of how lackluster this food, that is evidently prepared by chefs, is. Overall, the experience was underwhelming.
My final note. I have nothing ill to say about our waitress. She did her job. It’s a beautiful and atmospheric restaurant. Get drunk and you’ll enjoy it like the rest of these reviews. I do, however, advise the owner of this establishment to consider making some changes. Either serve the fine dining food prepared by the chefs you advertise or reword your menu to...
Read moreThis is the 2nd time we’ve eaten at the Emporium. The 1st time was a couple weeks ago and we tried the Shrimp and Grits as well as the Pimento Cheese Omelette. The Shrimp and Grits had great flavor with the tomatoes and andouille sausage and the Pimento Cheese Omelette was super cheesy and had wonderful flavor with the Pimento cheese mixture they used. This 2nd time around we had 4 of us. My mother-in-law had the biscuits and gravy. I am super picky with my sausage-gravy and I have to say it was some of the best I ever had. It’s not your typical white sausage gravy but it is super delicious and the biscuits were homemade and thick. My son had the seasonal pancakes which was chocolate chip pecan pancakes and they too were really good. I had the Pain Perdu which is French toast with cream and peaches. I really enjoyed the flavor of the peaches and cream with the maple syrup. Last my husband loved the Pimento Cheese omelette so much the 1st time that he wanted to try it again. I am not sure if the chef was different the 1st time but this time around the Pimento Cheese wasn’t even cheese it was a Buffalo sauce with bits of cheese in it. Not sure what happened because seriously it was so good the first time. I even asked the waiter if they change the recipe of the Pimento cheese on a regular basis and he said no they didn’t but they do make it homemade, but he mentioned that someone else asked the same question the day before. Unfortunately, the omelette was disappointing the 2nd time and the waiter was nice enough to take it off the bill. So, regardless of the fail on the omelette my family and I will definitely be returning. I just hope the chef goes back to the recipe they used a...
