Upon arrival we had reservations and we were 25mins early and we were told that y’all had an honor system and said that we must sit at the time of the reservation hour selected however there were empty tables and we were told you all were “overwhelmed” which I think was a bit over exaggerated considering the restaurants right by the river we’re way more overwhelmed and had no open tables. We were told we can wait at the bar and order a drink before sitting at our table. At the bar you had two bartenders (one a man and another a woman) and one (the girl) was more entertained with a friend talking instead of assisting any customers. I give more thumbs up to the guy cause he was hugging way more customers than her. They both were very disorganized and not attentive at all … it took us 30mins to receive all our drinks. After the bar we approached the front desk and they said to stay at the bar and they will come and get us when our table is ready. Keep in mind my reservation was at 4:30pm and then at 4:40pm my table was still not ready and there was still many empty tables. We were just 4 people. We were placed in the sitting room to the right of the bar and at a 6 person table. The other tables surrounding that table where filled with people who were very noisy. There was lack of supervision there because more people just started showing up and taking seats from other people tables without asking. My chicken sandwich came out tasting burnt and the waiter went to have another one come out however, by the time it came out my family was done eating. So I had no choice but take it to go. The manager didn’t come out to check on us considering the mistake that was made. Not sure what you all do there but the normal thing to do would have been to have a manager coming by each table throughout the duration of the stay of the customers visit to make sure everything is going great. Especially after any incident. Another thing is that the women’s restroom stalls where complete out of toilet paper and it seems there isn’t much of bathroom check ups in the restroom to make sure that everything is good. One of my family members ordered the Nashville hot chicken and the Brussel sprouts where all burnt and not edible. And another family member ordered just a sweet tea the bar and when we got to the table they charged us twice for a sweet tea when that should’ve been just a free refill. Considering we are visitors here in Savannah we were very disappointed with the service and the food. This restaurant isn’t really a restaurant if all you have is 2 bars and 5 tables really. It was not at all how it is portrayed on the website. Very disorganized and I should’ve been credited back my chicken slider sandwich after having had to wait for my meal a long time. We were also not offered any dessert or anything else. Absolutely upsetting. Sad to say that when I go home and if any family or friends are heading to Savannah I’m going to have to say steer away from The...

I was part of a bachelorette party that was planning to stop by in the afternoon for a quick drink during our day out. Upon arriving the staff already seemed to not want us there, telling us repeatedly they were closing in 30 minutes before and after we explained we weren't getting food, just a quick drink. They said we could go to the rooftop.
We went to the rooftop lounge area and a nice local told us it was okay to rotate (not move across the room or anything) a couch so we could sit without interrupting her. We carefully moved the couch and were immediately approached by a staff member who told us we couldn't move it and seemed very agitated. We quickly apologized and clarified that we thought it was okay, with the local also telling him she told us it was okay and it wasn't our fault. Our bride-to-be tried to help the employee move the couch back, and he snapped at her saying she could "get her hands off it".
I understood his concern for the furniture, but he was overly-aggressive to us even as we explained, apologized, and tried to correct the situation, all while the local tried to defend us. We moved to the bar, still trying to get a quick drink to-go, and the same employee came back up to our bride-to-be to chastise her AGAIN for moving the couch. We had already profusely apologized and moved to a different area, so I think this was completely unnecessary and rude. Move on my man.
We tried to talk to staff at the rooftop bar about getting drinks and had a lot of difficulty, with an unfriendly staff member telling our bride-to-be we could "try downstairs or just leave". We left. I don't like to personally name employees for privacy, but I will say for someone named after an herb, you'd think he'd be more mellow.
After reading numerous reviews about aggressive or inattentive service, employees gossiping about or being rude to customers, and even some serious racism allegations, it seems that our experience wasn't just a "bad day" but a long-standing pattern for The Grove Savannah. "You can't sit with us!" isn't a great look for a restaurant,...
Read moreFirst of all, I would like to preface this review; I rarely ever leave a negative review and make it a point to leave positive ones.
We chose to try the grove last night for my wife's birthday dinner, we had a party of 4. We chose to sit on the rooftop which is first come, first serve. We got a table fairly quickly and sat down at 710pm. Our server walked by our table multiple times and said she would be right back with menus and did not get back to our table until 730pm. We put in our drink order and food order at 740pm. Drinks came out fairly quick in plastic cups and were ok. At 830pm our waitress came back and asked if we had gotten our food, we told her we had not, she said she was going back to check it. 10 minutes later a male, possibly a manager, came by to apologize for the wait and stated "something has happened in the kitchen". While this was occurring, tables that were sat well after us were receiving their food. Our food came out at 910pm, an hour and a half after we had placed the order. The waitress then apologized for the wait, and I suggested that she comp our drinks, which would have been reasonable for an an hour and half wait on our food due to what we perceived as an error on her part. She seemed take aback that I would even ask and ended up taking 17.50 off our bill, which was less than any one drink we ordered (we ordered 4 total). Our total bill was $100, which is reasonable. The food was good when it finally came, we would recommend the Nashville hot chicken.
All and all: -if you are looking for a finer dining experience, this is certainly not the place with so many other options so close by. -the service was incredibly poor. -this place has the potential to be such a nice restaurant, but has conformed to other rooftop standards in the area, catering more to young, dumb, and drunk. Music was very loud, we felt like we were at a rave. There is a time and place, prime time dining hours is not the time. -food was good not great.
My apologies to the grove, but you guys have a long,...
