I am very sad to have to write this review and Sweet Dee's was our go-to bakery for custom orders for years and I really enjoyed using them for desserts for our parties.
On June 30th, 2025 I placed a custom order for a two tier cake for my baby shower. I had a few email correspondence with the woman who takes the custom orders, Lynda-- after I sent my inspiration pictures she left me voicemail asking that I correspond with her via phone so we could discuss some things. We discussed a cake to feed about 30 people (expected guest list was about 27 people) and to make a naked style cake with boho theme (we discussed adding the boho rainbow decoration, fresh flowers and some dried decorative grass to tie it all together). She confirmed my order over the phone and took my payment, then confirmed pickup would be the day of the shower (August 9th) at 1100.
Fast forward to the day of the shower, my mom shows up to pick up the cake, and they say they don't have a cake for us. The woman she spoke with was incredibly rude to her and when asked to double check she basically told my mom I never responded to her and the order was never placed. When the message was relayed to me, I quickly got on the phone and let them know everything was done through phone call as that was what I was asked to do. I had $296 taken from my account on 6/30/25 for this custom order and confirmation of the date of pickup and time.
I too was met with quite a bit of attitude saying that I should have received a confirmation email if that was the case. I let her know I was unaware of this as I had not received one in the past when I ordered custom cakes from them and that regardless, the money was taken from my account on that day, the cake should have been made.
She said they could still make a cake for the event but would not be able to provide the flavors I wanted. I was very disappointed because I was quite set on what flavors I wanted for this cake, but conceited that I didn't have any other option, so I agreed.
They did offer to deliver the cake by hand for the trouble, but sadly when it arrived it was nothing like what I would have expected for the price I paid. The cake was significantly smaller than what I ordered and ended up not being able to accommodate the 27 people I had planned for-- I know this was not the right size as I mentioned earlier, I ordered the same size cake/same price cake for my other baby shower and my son's birthday and they were definitely larger cakes. The cake leaned to one side and the flowers arrive totally wilted. The decorations were nothing like what I wanted (although that is to be expected since they didn't have my order apparently) and it was such a disappointment because this cake was supposed to be the centerpiece for my decorations in the kitchen. :(
Sadly, even the taste and texture was very off in comparison to other cakes we have ordered in the past. The buttercream had split and was grainy in the center of the bottom layer and the cakes were very dense and had no flavor to them at all. It was honestly embarrassing to serve to my guests and most people left their piece half eaten and opted for the store bought cupcakes we had as a backup.
To add to the insult, when the cake was delivered, they gave us an envelope with a 30% off our next purchase--as if we will be ever purchasing from them again after this. I felt that a refund for part of the price we paid would have been more fair considering the cake was not what we ordered, terrible flavor and texture and arrive lopsided with wilted flowers.
I have attached a picture of the cake they made for my son's baby shower (Harry Potter) a few years earlier and his first birthday cake (Mickey Mouse) for reference as we paid the same amount of money for all of the cakes so this was the quality and size I was expecting.
So disappointed on how bad we were burned this time around and will unfortunately be finding a new bakery for our custom...
Read moreEXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED. I LOVED this bakery. I went all the time, I told all of my friends to go, I've tagged them in things I've gotten, I've taken friends and family from out of state there, I even have the whole points account there. Therefore I figured it would be the perfect place to order a cake from them. They required the full payment of $185 and some change upfront which I was okay with given that I had seen their other work and it was great. I even saw a group of influencers I follow get an amazing cake from them.
October 23rd I pick up the cake. The shop was busy. They put the cake in a box and said "oh we don't have tops for our boxes. Then they say "we couldn't do the logo that you wanted for copyright reasons so we did this instead". I FULLY understand copyright issues BUT they never once called or emailed me to say "we can't do what we originally told you we'd do, can we do this instead, if not what else would you like us to do". And no where on the order form that I signed or in the emails did I see anything stating they could make changes as they pleased with no communication. I told them the name was spelled wrong despite it being spelled right on their email to me, their form and my email to them. They said the cake decorator was not there anymore that day but took it back as if they were going to change it. I wanted to have them keep the cake but was told they could not refund it as it was already made and the owner was on vacation. So what am I supposed to do, I have no time to get a whole new cake before all of our friends and family are at the house from out of state for the party.
I get the cake home, take it out of the half box and I realize that they left off the German license plate that they said they'd put on. Then I realize they still spelled Derek completely wrong. Then I realize there are multiple creases in the frosting on the FRONT of the cake. Lastly I realize that "the VaLLy" (yes with two random capital Ls in the middle of the word) appears to have been written on by a child. I don't know if their cake person was out of work entirely that day or if they just need a new cake person but the cake I received is NOT a reflection of their advertised work. As a company I would be embarrassed if I had put this cake out. I posted it in an AZ Facebook group and the comments were horrendous. Consisting of "Walmart could've done better" "I would've made you that for $50" "did you try to make this yourself" "this cake is UGLY" "I hope you didn't pay for that" "dispute it with the bank" etc etc. I had to forewarn our family and friends that it is NOT what I approve of or want to put out for a surprise 30th birthday party that people flew in for.
I’d love to say that there was a resolve to this for them to even earn their one star that google makes you put but I’ve called with no answer, I’ve emailed with no answer and I’ve even tagged on social media with no answer.
Update: I've noticed that if your review goes viral on social media like tiktok they'll suddenly fell a want to help you resolve your issues. So if you have any issues maybe post them on TikTok or Instagram and have your friends share it anywhere they can and you might win a slight chance of them actually doing the...
Read moreI have ordered from Sweet Dees for events in the past when they were a newer bakery in Old Town Scottsdale. I would take visitors to the shop because of their unique drinks and goods. I would never use them in the future due to poor customer service provided by the owner, Lynda. I had inquired via email about a smash cake with the owner Lynda and then called in to place the order and spoke with another employee. She took all of the details of the order and stated she would send a confirmation. They happily take your payment at the time of the order however, never processed the order. I reached out 12 days later after the order date and paid date to find that they never had my order. I had to give all of the details of the order to Lynda. I was charged $257.51 for a smash cake and 4 dozen cupcakes (1 order was vegan). When speaking to the owner I told her 4 dozen cupcakes, and she called me back to argue and state I was charged for 3 dozen cupcakes and a smash cake. I of course have no order confirmation or receipt due to them never sending me one, so it is verbally my argument against the woman who took my order 12 days ago and never documented the order. The owner refused to make things right and when I cancelled the order in its entirety she stated " we do not give refunds, but you can have a store credit". She now forces me to dispute this with the credit card company even though her staff made the errors which led to the frustration to cancel the order. I would not spend a dime in this store after the rudeness of the owner, Lynda. and their inability to display any customer service. I had called back into the store to speak with the other owner, Danielle and she again lacks professionalism. She is the one who took the order and stated they did not send the confirmation email and their refund policy. However, reassuring they have notes in the kitchen and the order would have been prepared. She then refused a refund and hung up on me. Hmmm....They are breaking the law as you are required to tell a customer prior to purchase about the refund policy. I requested a refund because when a shop loses your order and does not have the correct items, how would I trust them to have them prepared for an event. How would a customer feel comfortable in their bakery when they are rude and unprofessional to customers? I would never step foot in the establishment.
Attached below is the confirmation they sent to me 12 days after a phone order when I called in to request about an order. I am not sure how a business can run efficiently when they send out a confirmation of an order like below (after the customer has called in to check on an order and then they are...
