Greetings fellow food lovers and Alaskan enthusiasts! The Alaska Sourdough Bakery in Seattle, a quaint spot that brings to mind the gold rush era and rugged pioneers. Brace yourself for an experience that might not live up to your expectations.
As an Alaskan native, I admit I'm a bit skeptical of anything claiming to embody the spirit of my home state. Regrettably, the service at this bakery didn't exactly impress me, no matter where one comes from.
Consider my attempt to order an iced latte. Instead, I received a piping hot beverage with hazelnut syrup and a separate cup of ice. As if a cold coffee without any flavor was an unthinkable request, it was made clear that there was no intention to re-make the drink. So, disappointed, I poured my hazelnut latte over the ice, watching it transform into a watery imitation of what it should have been. Management: If making coffee is a struggle, maybe it's best to just not to offer it, especially in Seattle.
There was a bright spot in the experience; while the Danish ($4.50) was hard to enjoy alongside my diluted beverage, the Double Chocolate Brownie ($4) was a chocolate lover’s fix that shut me up for long enough to forget about my coffee.
The Alaska Sourdough Bakery offers a glimpse of the Last Frontier, unfortunately, it’s a glimpse of the Carrs on Gambell. Tainted by a low-key aggression and a confusing approach to coffee-making. Proceed with caution, I’m sure it’s a great place, just don’t order a coffee and it'll...
Read moreLet me start by saying, this was an extremely difficult visit to rate. The ambiance was lovely, the cases were stocked beautifully, and the staff were genuinely friendly. Our order took a little longer than we expected but when we recieved our food, everyone was pleased with both the bacon and sausage breakfast sandwiches and called them 5/5. Our drinks were a whole 'nother story. First, they took an extremely long time. Second, the mocha and the vanilla latte we ordered were practically tasteless (of coffee, chocolate, or vanilla), had the wrong mouth feel, and was not hot enough. The hot chocolate we received was EXTREMELY hot. So much so that after letting it cool for 10 minutes, it was still undrinkable. The barista was nice and friendly, but he must have been filling in or something because he definitely was not someone who makes espresso drinks or foams milk on a regular basis. Again, the people were great and the food was great. Unfortunately, our group agreed that the disappointment in our beverages was enough to tank our rating of this spot. I would probably return for a loaf to-go but I would not recommend the...
Read moreFlew into town today with my Mom for our cruise which leaves on Saturday. We have two nights in Seattle which allows us ample time to try places we have wanted to go to that we didn't quite get to in 2022. Friendly service provided by Myla (sp?) the cashier. As first time visitors, we had already thoroughly perused the Menu online and already knew what we wanted to order immediately after we walked in. Had a half-order of a tasty Chicken Pesto Panini(not pictured, unfortunately), a cup of Tomato Basil Bisque with two slices of Sourdough, and a giant chocolate chip cookie. The cookie was perfect in every aspect from the texture to the flavor with chunks of chocolate goodness. When our order was ready, she called it out and we had to retrieve it at the counter. What really blew me away was the taste of the sourdough. The texture, depth, and contrast was duly noted, and truly shined through with the pesto mayo, arugula, tomato, provolone cheese, and chicken breast. I don't believe that ambiance is the focal point of this place. What matters is the food and service. Would certainly come back again when we are...
