I've ordered from Morfey's twice now and both times the baker completely hit the ball out of the park.
The first cake was in October of 2023 - a 6" red velvet cake with chocolate mousse filling. 10/10
The second cake (pictured) Februrary of 2025 - I'll start with the rating: 20/10. Five stars. WINNER. Because I was lucky enough to have such an incredible experience my first time around, I told the baker that we weren't picky and I trusted her opinion when it came to flavor combos. Threw out a few flavor suggestions based on what I saw from their website and the rest I was totally open to creative freedom...Now I'm just kicking myself for not having the baker write down the flavors but here is my guess - an almond cake with chocolate mousse or mocha/chocolate frosting with an almond or mocha icing and strawberry jam filling on the inside? Some combo of those flavors for sure! DELICIOUS. Incredible. My boyfriend and I looked at each other STUNNED after our first bite. The cake was SO moist and soft and fluffy and delicious and the frostings were spectacular. All of the flavors were so spot on and paired so well together. Cake design I also left up to the baker - it was simple but spectacular. I am so impressed by the detail, the love, and the richness in all of the flavors. (also a 6" cake). It also held up really well (refrigerated) and stayed fluffy and moist and fresh for a week.
Also the baker (kicking myself x2 because I didn't get her name) was the SWEETEST woman to interact with. Giggly and smiley and so kind and you could tell that she loved her job - she has sweetness to her core and it's such a joy to witness and receive.
I only subtracted a point from "service" because in a digital age I wish they were a little more advanced with an online order form or confirmation. You do have to catch them on the phone in order to place an order and I did have to call in to confirm my cake was ready which gave me a little anxiety. The service interactions were 11/10 easily, but as a website designer/digital marketer, can't help but wish for a slightly upgraded system. Oh well. The cake more than makes up for it!
Size and pricing: On the website the 6" cake says it serves 6-8. I think we easily got 15 slices out of it. I personally feel like no one ever really wants a thick slice of cake anymore and the cake is so rich and delicious you don't need a huge piece to indulge. So it definitely over served and was the perfect size for our group + leftovers. Also the price is unbeatable. $45 even for a custom cake that you can get a bunch of slices out of?? Unheard of and seriously appreciated.
I was rolling my eyes reading the 1 star reviews. I would recommend Morfey's over...
Read moreI've gotten cakes from here for the last 7 years and I'll never order another one again.
Every time you order a cake, its like you've been blasted back to the 1950s. You have to either catch the baker on the phone (impossible) or physically show up at their bakery to put in the order, and physically return every time you need to update anything in your order. So if you don't live in Queen Anne, this is a total pain. Caution for brides -- you'll waste a lot of time talking to them in-person!
The cakes are good -- not exceptional, but good. The price and quality can be matched at other cake shops in the city. I just kept going to Morfey's and put up with the archaic order process because they made our family's engagement cake, wedding cake, baby cake, birthday cakes, etc. Despite having patroned there for years, they still treat me as a new customer every time -- new paperwork (paper only, of course), etc. Its like joining your doctor's office time every time you go to the doctor's.
Recently I tried to order an adoption cake from them, and I asked why they didn't just read the detailed email I sent them. They said it would be too hard and they don't use computers at all. So I copy/pasted the email to another cake shop and the order was placed within the hour.
So, warning to anyone trying to find a regular cake shop. There are plenty of cake shops that are of equal quality, taste and value -- and they actually use computers, will recognize you as a repeat customer, give you a discount for loyalty, and complete ease of access for...
Read moreI had our wedding cake made for us at Morfey's Cake, and we were extremely pleased by the experience and result! They're a busy business, so we did give Morfey's ample time when booking our tasting and reserving the cake, and it all went smoothly!
We called ahead and made the cake tasting appointment in advance, and had a fun time tasking cake samples (with coffee!) with Erin, and going over designs. We'd looked at Morfey's website and Instagram beforehand so had a good sense of what we wanted. We decided to buy our own cake toppers, but had Morfey's make the sugar flowers for us.
Because we were getting married in Seattle and our cake was relatively small, we elected to pick up the cake ourselves and deliver it to save on the delivery fee. Made the reservation, the cake was ready on time, and it was well packaged for travel (it was defintely a 2 person job, even with our smaller cake, so bring someone if you decide to deliver it yourself).
And wow, we were overjoyed by how beautiful the cake looked! It impressed our guests and was a beautiful decoration on the day of the wedding. And it tasted so good! It was delicious, flavorful, moist - some of the best cake I've had! We loved it!
We're definitely going to use Morfey's for special occasion cakes in the future! Thanks Erin for making our wedding day that much...
