I recently discovered Roti during the 4th of July visit to Seattle, a fairly new spot in the South Lake Union neighborhood, and I must say—it’s a solid addition to Seattle’s Indian dining scene.
Our Order (for 2 people):
Samosa Kale Chaat – A beautifully executed dish! A fusion twist on the traditional chaat with crispy samosas, kale, tangy chutneys, yogurt, and a perfect balance of sweet and savory flavors. Definitely a must-try appetizer.
Papadam (3 pcs) – Crisp and fresh, but the real standout was the green chutney served alongside—vibrant, zesty, and full of flavor.
Gongura Paneer – Though it reminded me of Palak Paneer at first glance, the use of sorrel leaves (gongura) brought a unique, tangy twist to the classic dish. We ordered it medium spicy, and the flavor was just right—rich, slightly earthy, and absolutely delicious.
Garlic Naan – Thick, soft, and buttery—the way I like it. Held up great with the curries.
Roti – Surprisingly a standout! Crisp, well-roasted, and just perfect. Definitely worth ordering again.
Steamed Rice – Served alongside the curry. Simple, well-cooked, and a good addition to round out the meal.
We also asked for some green chilies on the side, which were happily provided.
Ambiance: The place has an appealing and modern aesthetic with a stylish bar setup. It manages to strike a perfect balance between cozy and lively—great for a casual date night or catching up with friends. The lighting and vibe were on point, offering a warm and welcoming environment.
Service & Presentation: The plating was elegant, and the serving crockery had a nice upscale touch. However, the textured plates made it a bit tricky to clean up curries, and I personally found the oversized cutlery a little awkward to use. Also, the table space felt a bit compact, especially with multiple dishes on it—but manageable.
Portion Size: The portion sizes were just right for two people—not too little, not overwhelming. It felt thoughtfully portioned for a shared meal.
Pricing: Given the upscale look, prime SLU location, and ambiance, I expected the place to be on the pricier side—but it was surprisingly reasonable. For the quality, plating, and setting, the pricing felt very fair and approachable.
Special Mentions: Jain food options are available too—just make sure to inform them a few hours or a day in advance.
We went during an off-peak hour, so it wasn’t crowded and the service was quick and attentive.
Final Thoughts: Roti offers flavorful, well-prepared Indian food with a modern twist in a stylish setting. Minor adjustments in table space and cutlery would enhance the experience, but the taste and service are spot on. I’ll definitely be back to explore more...
Read moreIt was our first time at Roti Cuisine yesterday, we absolutely loved it!
Starting with food, we ordered Onion Bhaji, Lamb tandoori kebab, Chicken Korma, Garlic Naan and Buttered Roti. We asked for mild (no spice) for all dishes. The Onion bhaji was deep fried just right, and was served straight out from the pan. Then the Lamb kebabs arrived on skewers in a copper vessel along with the breads. They were amazing, cooked just right and melted in our mouths. The Chicken Korma came with rice, and was delicately spiced and not heavy because the chef had used not too much oil in preparing the dish. The Naan and Roti breads came straight from the tandoor oven and were perfect. The servings were good sized, we had ordered too much food for two people, and did not want to over eat, but ended up eating about 2/3 of the food over about an hour and took the rest to go. The food was just excellent!
Now to the ambience. The restaurant was full, a testament to the quality of its food and its loyal following. The interior is nicely (and not overly) decorated with Punjabi and Mughal themes. The tables are not too close, and customers were perhaps too busy enjoying their food to talk too loudly. We felt that the environment was very nice and relaxing, and could focus on enjoying the food without getting sensory overload. One suggestion I would have for the restaurant is to have a coat hanger or two near the entrance. We had to keep our coats on extra chairs.
Finally, the staff is very courteous and hospitable. We felt they went above and beyond to take care of the guests. The service was prompt and we were left on our own while enjoying our food. We talked a bit to the manager of the restaurant, and he was super nice.
We would definitely be back to Roti. It is the best Indian restaurant in Seattle that we have been to. The food is delicious and authentic. The ambience is very nice and the staff is wonderful. Getting to the restaurant and finding it was pretty...
Read moreI went with my husband and kids to this restaurant tonight as we are very keen on finding a good indian place to eat anytime we are on vacation. Being Indian and spoiled by good food at home daily we were excited for this meal after being away for a few days. It was so disappointing firstly because the restaurant was empty but we were placed so close to the door so that the cold air would come fishing in every time it opened. The menu is so large and now we know that it's not always a good thing. The mango shake we ordered was warm and the chickpea kebab was merely a deep fried aloo tiki with some paneer inside...nothing special at all. We ordered the daal makhni, shahi paneer and saag paneer for the main course with garlic naan and one of the chillie naans...the naans are so thick and bread like that the 5 of us did not get through one entire naan. The faiths was weird too as is had small mushy bits of potatoes and and oddly cut cucumber bits...bit probably the only thing that was properly seasoned. The only thing I really likes was the picked onions and green chillies we ordered on the side. My kids wanted dessert so we ordered one order of the gulab jamun and one of the mango pudding... and again disappointed. The gulab jamuns came in a pile of 5 small dense ones in the syrup but freezing cold..not sure why the were not served warm? And the mango pudding was bright orange and came in this huge bowl that the five of us could or didn't want to finish because of the overly artificial colour and taste. So sorry to say that this is definitely not a place for anyone who likes good authentic Indian food! Not recommended...
