" I'm Black, You're White and Our money is green"
I have been waiting a couple of weeks to write this review. So Sedona is definitely not a place where you see a lot of African American people. But it doesn't mean that we don't exist. I like experiencing new places and new foods and people just like the next person. But anyway when we walked through the door of this restaurant we were greeted by a Hostess that may not have been used to seeing people of color. So the reception was not as welcoming as we would have liked it. But thank God I had my best friend was with me because she stayed calm when I was I wanted to jump over the hostess counter. They told us that you need reservations it's best to have reservations, the restaurant is not that large they do have a beautiful patio to eat on but if the weather is not permitting then eating outside is not an option. I would love it if they could move to a bigger establishment because the largest group of people that can take I believe is 10. Okay so after she comes back and tells us that there's not a table available there may be one in the next hour or we can just go to the bar we don't have to wait on the table so my girlfriend said we'll wait on the table and we'll go to the bar and have some appetizers and drinks so we sat at the bar the waitress or I should say bartender was great the apple martini is great happy hour is great we had the lamb chops and the tuna at happy hour. The people at the bar and the bartender were welcoming so we sat there for a while then the bartender told us that our table was ready but she didn't want to move us until we were ready to move and so we finished our drinks and cleared our tab LOL We went and sat down at the table. At first I thought they were being funny because we were seated right at the kitchen window kind of diagonally from it. But it's the way the layout of the restaurant is kind of the kitchen is open to the restaurant, our waiter that night explain the menu to us we decided to do a little bit of wine tasting and then they hd bruschetta bread, that is phenomenal it was so good I was dreaming about it in my sleep. the food was so good that we decided to come back the next day so the hostess came over told us that the brunch is really good and we decided to come for brunch we came the next day a little early it was raining so we were able to get seated right away the greeting by the hostess that we had the previous night was totally different but then we ran into a new bartender that we asked about the Martini from the previous night what was at the bottom of the drink? This bartender was very rude and said we don't put anything at the bottom of our apple martini well usually there's a cherry at the bottom of an apple martini but there was a different type of cherry and we didn't know the name of it and so we were like okay here we go again from last night. So we sat down we ordered a mimosa looked at the brunch menu and we didn't like it so we left and came back for dinner and had the shrimp and grits and my girlfriend had the lump crab cake and we had the bruschetta bread. Dinner was good we talked to the manager I believe and explained our experience the previous night and I pray that they work on. The bartender that worked the previous night was there the second night, we explained what happened, she and the manager knew who we were speaking of because they said her attitude is horrible. I pray that customer service training is done to appease All CreedsAcross the world. Overall I would recommend a restaurant happy hour was definitely cheaper than regular dinner make sure you make a reservation or at least call I wish they would move to a bigger location and I wish the bathrooms were not outside considering I'm spending about $100 for two people minimum I would like to not have to go outside in the rain as it was when we were there or in the cold. Overall very tasty food just be advised that they change their menu periodically so don't fall in love too hard LOL Not ideal for kids....
Read moreI was very disappointed with both the food and service at this restaurant. The Ahi Tuna Tartar Nachos looked nothing like the photo, missing key ingredients like mango, black sesame, and yellow sauce, and the flavor was bland. Although the manager handled my polite complaint kindly, the chef gave me a cold, uncomfortable look.
Why couldn't they have informed me before serving the dish that an ingredient was missing? Even though I expressed myself very gently and respectfully, why did the chef give me such a cold look?
More upsetting was the server named Jose, who was rude, ignored my requests for the check multiple times despite eye contact. Even though the server made eye contact with me, he completely ignored me and walked right past. The second time he passed right next to our table, I said, "Excuse me."
There was only one other customer inside besides us, and Jose was right next to our table, only about 11 inches away--there was no way he didn't hear me. Yet he ignored me again. The third time our eyes met, I said "Excuse me" once more. Again, he completely ignored me and walked away.
My husband then said, "I'll call him," and tried to get Jose's attention while he was standing just behind us. But even then, Jose continued to ignore us.
So when we asked why he ignored us even though we made eye contact, I called him three times, and my husband called him too, he said, "I am not your server."
I couldn't understand the situation because he was the server who took our drink and food orders. At that time, the manager came over and asked what was going on, and we explained.
However, Jose ignored us until the end, didn't even apologize, and just looked annoyed.
I left the restaurant feeling very miserable and talked with the manager. The manager apologized to us repeatedly, but I told him, "You did awesome, but it is the server named Jose who should apologize. I experienced that the server intentionally ignored and discriminated against us without any reason. I don't know on what basis the discrimination was, but it was definitely discrimination."
First of all, a server should welcome every guest. However, that Jose was very rude to us, discriminated against us without any reason, and ignored us. I have never experienced this kind of treatment at any restaurant.
I believe the owner should take very seriously the fact that this restaurant was clearly discriminatory, and ignorant toward a particular guest without any justifiable reason.
I consider the server's unwelcome attitude, disrespect, discrimination, and ignorance toward us at that restaurant to be a very...
Read moreOne sentence to sum this place up: Exceptionally Mediocre. But it wouldn't be an issue if the prices they charge you for a burger and bowl of ramen wasn't so high. We came up here from LA for vacation and have so far been to various restaurants anywhere from $ to $$$$. So far this is the first place we've been to where I felt that we got robbed a bit. I understand that I can't really judge restaurants here using LA standards. But I would recommend that they remove the ramen from their menu. The ramen is going through a bit of its own identity crisis where it can't decide whether it wants to be Japanese, Chinese, or Thai. So it's got a bit of everything in there from the Japanese noodles to the Chinese flavor of sweet and sour pork, and together with the type of Thai shrimp you would find from a typical Thai restaurant. In the end all the flavors were all fighting each other and nothing stood out. Not to mention the portion for the ramen is small and they charge you $24 for it. My wife on the other hand got the burger, but they added $2 to the cheese and another $2 for the mushroom on top of a $21 price tag. The burger wasn't bad, but it also wasn't anything to write home about. It's basically about exactly the same as you would get from any other big chain restaurant for $15-$16. My kids ordered lemonade. They were $8 each. In the end, our bill for a family of 4 was almost the same as what we paid last night at a $$$$ restaurant where the food was phenomenal in comparison.
Again, it's not bad. But if they were charging you for the view, it wasn't that great either. It's not like you're dining on the pier either. Maybe we all ordered the wrong stuff. I saw a guy on here who ordered the lamb chop said it was the best he ever had. So are we all supposed to order lamb chops? A place like this would seriously struggle to stay alive if there were more competitions in the area. I hope the owner will seriously rethink the pricing on their menu and look at what others' prices are. If you're in the business of unique ethnic cuisine, then it might justify a bit of upcharge for being mediocre. But if you're just selling American Bistro, the food better be the top of their A game otherwise $24 for a small bowl of mediocre noodles and a $25 for an ok hamburger isn't going to make your...
