It was almost unfair of us to come over to Hideaway House when we did - my friend and I were fresh off a perfect experience down the street at The Vault, so it was always going to be nearly impossible and certainly an uphill climb for this place to match that one. While the view was arguably just as good (a huge selling point), the food and drinks weren't.
We came here the day after Memorial Day, fresh off a delicious lunch and with the intent of just getting a drink or two. Our expectations took a nosedive when we walked to the entrance and saw several parties waiting outside ostensibly for tables. I was prepared to just keep walking down the street for other options, but somehow we managed to immediately snag a great table out on the deck. Maybe they were significantly larger parties waiting for a table to accommodate their crews? No idea, but that's a lesson in at least checking with the hostess before giving up entirely.
Hideaway House seemed to have significantly more outdoor seating than The Vault, with two or three separate areas boasting astonishing views. It's on the other side of the street closer to the canyons, so there's literally not even anything separating the restaurant from those optics (whereas if you're at The Vault and happen to look directly down from the edge of their terrace, you still have the main thoroughfare, plenty of foot traffic, etc. to contend with). It's a great location, which is why I was surprised that the staff left multiple tables right on the edge of the seating area unbussed for lengthy periods of time. We were probably there A LITTLE after the main lunch hour so perhaps there wasn't an immediate demand for them, but I'd personally make sure one of the best views in the country was accessible as soon as possible.
I ended up ordering two drinks here - the Bourbon Peach Smash and Seth's Smoke Signal. The Peach Smash was pretty bland and didn't have much of a kick to it. I usually gauge alcohol content by the hue in my cheeks, and despite the fact that I'd had a few decent drinks earlier on this particular day of debauchery, this beverage didn't tilt the meter at all. The Smoke Signal was better, with a nice balance of smoky and sweet. Neither drink compared to the Gold Rush at The Vault though.
We felt weird getting a primo table without getting anything to eat, so even though we weren't very hungry, we ordered the Garlic Bread Cheese Blossom to munch on for a while. We did finish it and I'm not sure how we had the appetite to do any of it, but based on the description I was expecting way more cheese and not what essentially amounted to as a mediocre version of Domino's Cheesy Bread. As you can see from the attached picture, there was literally more basil on the bread than cheese. I did think it had enough flavor to actually negate the accompanying marinara sauce, but this was still a pretty underwhelming app.
This probably would have been very close to an unequivocal negative experience, but the service was really excellent. Our waiter was very nice and attentive, and we never felt rushed to leave - I honestly think we could have lingered there for another hour or so without incident - and the other staffers I came in contact with were super friendly as well. I don't actually recall us having a bad service experience during our stay, but regardless, this place at least has that intangible working for them.
This is definitely worth stopping by for the view (not every restaurant in Sedona has it), but I'd probably order something completely different than what we did the first...

Read moreThis spot is an absolute gem if you are visiting Sedona. We walked in (as recommended on their answering machine) and waited the 20/30 minutes to get a spot outside as myself and my friend had brought our dogs to go out on the trails. The website stated that they were “dog friendly” but - this wasn’t just friendly - they have a whole menu for the doggos, brought a water dish for them and had treats waiting on the table for them. Which - all details that I appreciated! This place is dog POSITIVE. Their were other dogs and everyone kept them to themselves. To be honest, this was ideal for a dog owner like myself who travels INCESSANTLY with my dog. Fine dining without the “dash” of having to take away food due to my dog.
Anyway! Samantha was our server and was outstanding. She knows the menu and recommends things based on what you’re looking for, and was flexible to modify should I want. We got the Pear and pecan crostini to begin and it was delightful. Sweet, savory, with basil shreds giving an extra depth! Loved it. I got the Pizza Blanco and my friend got the shrimp gnocchi, and we we’re both so happy.
The food is fresh and delicious, whomever is their produce person knows how to select- I don’t even like tomatoes and I ate them on my blanco pizza and loved it. It was a nice balance from the cheesy garlicky goodness that I love. You can just tell when food is fresh and local. My friend noted she thought the red sauce from her shrimp gnocchi was probably house made with these fresh tomatoes! She was in love.
We finished with the limoncello Marscapone berry cake - and while it stated peach cobbler was a house favorite, I’m not in love with peaches…so I was sad to miss out- But as Samantha told us “all the desserts are truly delicious” and it was. Light, fluffy, but with the marscapone cheese in the middle layer and the berry tartness setting off the limoncello…well balanced. Tasty.
I had a wine, and regretted it after seeing their specialty drinks- not because it was bad but because the drink menu looked interesting! My friend had something housemade and said it was perfectly balanced, and it was beautifully crafted.
We got to enjoy the patio the whole time - with the amazing backdrop looking right out into the unique land formations that make Sedona awesome. 10/10 ambiance 11/10 food 11/10 service. Please go here. They’re incredible.
Parking sucks if you go during a busy time. Be prepared, be patient, it’s worth...
