UPDATE decided to try this place again, placed a carry out order and you’ll never believe what happened, they messed up our order AGAIN. And I don’t mean they just didn’t notice the note to put the sauce on the side or something like that. They literally didn’t give us a whole salad. Seriously, not sure if the place is that bad or if we’re just the lucky ones that keep getting our order messed up, so far it’s been messed up 100% of the time! And what’s worse is that you get no help when you try to call, didn’t even waste our time going back to get the food this time!
Ordered the Family meal for carry out last night. Pick up time was set by them for 6:40, my husband arrived to pick to pick up the food, which ended up not being ready until 6:52. ok, bo big deal, they were busy. husband returns with the bag food which is missing THE CHICKEN, like literally the whole chicken, the main part of the meal missing! he proceeds to call the restaurant (which is no easy feat to get a live person talk to) to let them know he will be driving back to get the chicken and they waste several minutes grilling him over who, what, when, where, how and why this chicken could be missing, instead of maybe just saying "I'm sorry, we'll have a chicken waiting for you as soon as you get here" Husband returns and picks up the chicken, subtly mentioned it would be nice if we could have replacements of the other hot items we ordered so we could have the HOT FRESH meal we paid for and the girl working said the only thing she could offer him was COLD orzo salad. Husband gets home, we cut into the chicken, to eat with our now reheated sides, only to find the chicken was COLD on the inside! it was fully cooked, but COLD, almost like it had been cooked then refrigerated and then attempted to reheat. Seriously just had to laugh it off at that point🤦🏼♀️ Hoping this was just a bad night for them because the food, once you get it,...
Read moreAs locals we have been super excited to try this new spot close to home. We opted for the take-out option. We sent our order in while shopping at smiths. I will break down the review:
Order speed: ready super fast! Maybe this is a positive and a negative as the order was actually wrong, which unfortunately we didn't realize until we got home. The receipt reflected our accurate order so we didn't think to open it up at the counter.. We ordered the hot chicken roll and definitely received the pesto one ("vodka parm"). There was no stuffing, no chicken skin, and there was pesto. That was a let-down.
Food quality: Not giving a terrible review as the ingredients did seem fresh. Presentation was pretty decent, especially for take-out. However, my order, as well as the pesto sandwich, were lacking. I got the "Hot Pita" with chicken. While the initial bites seemed fine, unfortunately getting to the chicken part was extremely dry! IDK if the owners have had middle eastern pita? I would suggest adding in the garlic sauce (Lebanese TOUM) and/or SOMETHING to add much needed moisture. Tahini is quite drying and while I didn't even notice if that was in there, I don't think it helps. Perhaps mixing it with more olive oil?
Maybe the dine-in experience is better. Unfortunately, having a bad first impression makes us unlikely to go back. It was just over $40 for the two sandwhiches and a side...
Read moreWas super excited to try this place. I love a good moist, flavorful chicken. And that is not an easy thing to achieve. To sum it up - everything looked better than it tasted. And some of it didn’t look so hot to begin with.
But starting with the good - all the sauces (toum, salsa verde, harissa and zhug) were bright and fresh and added much needed flavor to the food. I also give a huge shout out to the dine-in format, which minimizes waste (eg real utensils, “plates”, etc). And the woman who took the order was lovely.
The not so good? Well, the chicken was dry, unseasoned and utterly unremarkable in any positive sense. It is described as charcoal chicken, but I didn’t detect a whisp of smoke, charcoal, or any other flavor for that matter. It also clearly hadn’t been brined, as any trace of seasoning was left at the surface. Once you got in to the meat itself? No flavor.
The Tzatziki was a consistency I have never seen - like cream cheese (or more charitably, labneh). It also was devoid of salt. The Japanese salad apparently never met Japan, because other than the addition of edamame, it had no flavoring that distinguished it from run of the mill shredded cabbage with a bit of acid and a bit of sugar. The pita had an off putting taste as if it had been reheated on a propane flame.
Next time in Kimball Junction I will...
