Anchor Tavern — Restaurant in Tampa

We had made this place “our spot” prior to going to events downtown. The food was always great (still is actually), the jukebox lends as a good time, and the service had always been fun and upbeat. Unfortunately lately we have had several instances of poor service and we understand that can happen because everyone is allowed to have an off day now and again however we were on the receiving end of flat out rude servers and they were borderline mean. Not only were they mean to our table of 6 but threatened to call the police on another patron because she was questioning why other people received food before they did when they had been waiting longer (valid question).

Last night, Management had only scheduled one bartender to run the whole restaurant while there was a hockey game in town as well as a special event happening at the Tampa theater. The Knight Parade was also happening in Ybor but not sure of it affected downtown as much. We realized the server was there by herself so being that most of us have been in the service industry we tried to help her clean off 3 different tables as people were leaving. She asked for our drink orders and got us our drinks. When we informed her that we wanted to order food she told us that she was going to go get her pad of paper and a pen. After finishing our 3rd drink over an hour later, she still hadn’t come back to take our order and we had asked her to come over to our table twice. She was also taking food orders of people that had walked in way after we had arrived. So we pointed out that we had wanted to order food and that we were waiting for her to come back with her pen and pad of paper. She responded with “I can’t tell if you’re kidding” in a very sarcastic tone. We explained that we weren’t kidding and that we had been there for over an hour and still hadn’t ordered food. She responded with “I’m the only one here and people are coming up to the bar. We can continue to discuss this or I can take your order.” So we ordered anyways because we wouldn’t have been able to get a table and eat somewhere else at this point before our event. A second server came in at this point to relieve her and she must have informed him that we questioned the slow service. He then took on the same attitude with us that she had. He was also the one responsible for threatening to call the police on a patron that was also questioning the slow service. We eventually had our food DROPPED OFF at our table by said gentleman. He didn’t even let us know what the food was. We had to figure all the orders for ourselves. We had a plate of wings THROWN on our table last night by the female server and when we thanked her, she said “YEP!”

Customers are not responsible for poor scheduling by management. Also, the staff needs to understand the words “I’m sorry” can go a long way. We as customers were trying to help her in the beginning and would have continued until we started receiving the attitudes when we did nothing to cause it. DO NOT GO HERE!!!! They are rude and clearly racist. I was here a couple days ago and only came in because I had to use the bathroom really bad. I didn’t want to be stereotyped because I’m a younger black woman, so I told him I’ll buy something while I wait for the bathroom (and it’s just the polite thing to do). The bathroom opened up quicker than I thought so I told him I’d pay him and order when I came out. I left my ID in my car and he wouldn’t accept a picture (totally understandable, we don’t do that where I work either) so I went to get my ID and came back. He then proceeded to say “you have to leave, you’re banned from the bar”. Me: “🤨 wym I’m banned?” He goes to say, “ one of my bartenders just texted me your picture and said you are banned. Every time you come in here you cause a ruckus etc.” then started to get disrespectful. I said”I’ve literally NEVER stepped foot in this bar, have NEVER seen this bar, have NEVER heard of this bar and NEVER knew it existed. I don’t even come over to this area”. He proceeds to be rude and disrespectful. I left cause I didn’t want to be in that funky weird bar anyway, I was just trying to be polite and not just use the bathroom without buying something. So I take a video outside and tell the people by the window to turn their bodies so they won’t be in the video. He proceeds to walk after me, after I’m already OUTSIDE and take a video of me. Then calls the police on me. Again, I’m OUTSIDE. Unprofessional, unprovoked and I’m not the first person to feel their racism and prejudice. They have a couple reviews about it. Last night on 12/11, I went to this establishment with myself and a group of friends to celebrate the night of my college graduation. I walked in, it was pretty slow. I approach the bartender and asked what was on special and there was a hospitality special and fortunately I'm a server so that means 50% off my tab which was great cause I'm balling on a budget and the purpose for hospitality night is to save money. So I'm there drinking, enjoying good conversation, good laughs and then when I went to close my bar tab I asked the bartender for my change so I can leave him something mind you I'm a full time college student and mind you I work maybe a day or two a week serving cause of school. The bartender then tells me "it's not very hospitality like of you to leave a low tip like that, your drinks were half off". I was guilted into leaving my change. I was so upset and disrespected.
