PHYSICALLY ASSAULTED BY STAFF!!!
Had the most horrible experience here. We ordered a drink, and were leaving as it was very crowded. As we were walking down the stairs to leave, a drunken male patron pushed my boyfriend in the back. As we were arm-in-arm, this caused us both to stumble--fortunately I had a good grip of the hand railing and didn't fall. When I turned around and went to confront the guy that pushed us, he shoved me on my shoulders from the top of the stairs, threatening me. I had never seen the guy before in my life. Upon seeing this, my boyfriend tried to step in to defend me, and all of a sudden security magically had an issue with physical violence (unlike when the man had pushed me--twice now) and kept yelling to take it outside. The man kept yelling threats, making my boyfriend even more upset for my safety, and then instead of throwing out the guy that had pushed us twice, nearly breaking our necks, one of the staff violently grabbed my boyfriend, twisting his arm behind his back and nearly breaking it, and slamming him against the railing for no reason. I got between them--my boyfriend had surgery recently on his shoulder and can't bend like that. He was in extreme pain, and had done nothing wrong. When I got between them, the man--who later identified himself as the owner--twisted my arm behind my back. I am a disabled veteran, just back from Afghanistan 2 months ago, and receive disability from the VA every month for a shoulder injury incurred during my second tour in Iraq. I screamed so loudly in pain that the music stopped and everyone in the building turned and looked at me. Then the man proceeded to throw my boyfriend to the floor before he could defend me, and made a production out of escorting him out loudly, saying things like "not in my bar!" As if he'd actually done anything wrong. This was likely because he knew how bad it looked that he assaulted a female to the point that she could be heard over blaring music, and had to make some attempt to make it appear justified.
This is the worst experience I've ever had in any establishment. We went out to enjoy downtown Tampa, but instead ended up fearing for our lives. They did nothing about the man that attempted to murder us, and the owner physically assaulted us. I do not recommend this bar unless you have a CC permit.
I'd comment on the drinks, but mine got spilled while I was being assaulted by the owner. Going into a line of work where he feels like he can put his hands on people is clearly the only way this small man has found to achieve orgasm when he goes to...
Read moreJerk Hut is a good place to party, but not a good place to eat! I sometimes attend JH parties on Friday nights, and I usually have a good time! Music is great and good vibes. However my restaurant experience was below satisfactory and poor.
I went to Jerk Hut downtown to eat on Sunday June 25 around 3pm with a group of friends from out of town. When I walked in, I immediately lost my appetite. It felt as if the place hadn't been cleaned since their last party. Everything was sticky and felt sticky, from the floor to the bathroom to the walls. There were dirty dishes, with food and towels piled in the next to the entrance in a bin and the two people who were working appeared bored. I get it, it is a Sunday afternoon, but still...I wasn't impressed and did not feel welcomed. It felt like the JH was just open this day to make money...not to feed people.
I had already decided that I wasn't going to eat, but my friends wanted to eat so I just stayed with them. The lady at the counter was friendly when we approached her. This is when I found out that there are no servers, it is more cafeteria style. My friends began to order their food and the lady neatly organized the plates with food. I was pleased with her service, however I became disgusted when I heard the microwave beep! The lady began to warm up each plate of food in the microwave! I felt like my friends were about to eat left overs....I was completely turned off! The total came to $48.00 and my friends paid the bill. I was shaking my head...how can they charge this much money for microwaved food? It is not even fresh!
Next, my friends were each given plastic forks and knives to eat with their dishes. This also turned me off. How can you allow people to eat off dishes and give them plastic utensils to eat with?
My friends did enjoy their food but by this time I was totally and completely disgusted! I know Jerk Hut can do better than this! I remember when they were on Twiggs and all was good, but this foolishness really is upsetting!
My suggestion if you are interested in authentic Caribbean cuisine is to go to "Yah Mon" in South Tampa. Food is delicious, there are servers, it is clean and the dining experience is unforgettable.
Jerk Hut, I get that you have the name and a couple of spots opened up...but just because you have the brand doesn't mean you don't need to put in any effort into your food and establishment. I respectfully and strongly request that you elevate and...

As a regular customer at Jerk Hut downtown Tampa location, I have mixed feelings about the overall experience. I’ve dined here multiple times, and unfortunately, the quality of the food and service has been inconsistent. Some days, the meals are exceptional, but on other occasions, they fall short.
Today's visit was especially disappointing. My mac and cheese arrived cold, the curry chicken tasted as if it wasn't fresh, and the rice and peas had an off flavor. This isn’t the first time I’ve experienced this. On more than one occasion, the food has been served cold, and at times, it seems like it may have been sitting out for a day or two. This lack of consistency is concerning.
The service is also hit or miss. Despite being a frequent customer, I'm rarely greeted with warmth or recognition, which is surprising and a bit disheartening. It’s clear that additional training in customer service would be beneficial for the staff.
I’ve had conversations with a few of my co-workers who have shared similar experiences. One day the food tastes fresh, the next day it doesn’t. Given that consistency is something fully within their control, I really hope Jerk Hut can address these issues because when the food is good, it's really good—but when it’s off, it’s...
