I finally learned to give up on my expectations of a place. I know that in order to find an above average restaurant, one must look long and hard, be prepared to drive, wait a respectable amount of time, and most likely spend serious money. The better the place, chances are the more they will charge. After all, this is America, the land of the free, where good food cost a pretty penny. Enter Black Angus Steakhouse in Temecula, CA. This is a franchise where you immediately realize its whole business idea is to feed average food, which now that I am wiser and demand much less, is a lot better than terrible food by a long mile. Black Angus is supposedly a prized type of cattle that delivers very nice cuts of beef to the table, just as long as they have the preparation technique down to science. We arrived at 6:30 PM on a Saturday, and were cordially greeted with the nice gesture of opening the door for us. Place was at 40% capacity, which should have been a warning light, for compared with BJ's Chicago Pizzeria down the street that was packed with people, plus is 3 times the size, Black Angus looked subdued to its own slow pace faith on a Saturday evening. Big Mama, and myself were seated in a very small table for two. Amy became out server, and she had this singsong tone to her voice that at first I thought would get to my nerves, but her dedication and constant desire to please us turned the tide in no time. We ordered: Campfire Feast, Dinner for 2, with a coupon sold for $41 ($20.50 per person), regular price otherwise around $58?, nice savings, did not even showed the magazine with the coupon, we just mentioned the deal, and voila! Choices selected: Chicken Tender Appetizer with Blue Cheese and a lightly sweet mustard dressing, on the menu it said this one cost $9.50. 6 large but not over so, Chicken Tenders, super fried and crunchy, a little on the chewy side, but was finished with zero problems, mostly by me. 3.5 Stars. Her: 12 oz Prime Rib, medium rare, the two sides were: Garlic Mashed Potatos, Wild Rice. Meat was chewy but edible, nothing to fall off the chair for, potatos a little dried but flavor was good, wild rice fresh and not sticking together. Overall she said 4 Stars. I chose a 10 oz Top Sirloin, with a Caesars Salad that required extra dressing for my taste, with typical makings, fresh and tasty, and a Fully Loaded Baked Potato. The steak has some sections that basically was nerve, and plenty of fat that was discarded, the texture a little hard on the chewing department, but with that flavor and seasoning that validates its existence. 3.5 Stars. The bread that arrived complimentary, their Molasses Bread with Sesame Seed on the crust, seems to have waited a little too long, but the microwave or whatever method they use to heat it, made it disappear in record time, the butter below par, who knows what grade but certainly not as good as the better ones. Either way, perfect or not, it was eaten in record time, mostly by me. Cheese Cake with Strawberry Topping was the last, but not least, offering of this bargain meal. The cheese cake not unlike the many cheese cake found just about in every corner. 3.5 Stars. Water, our choice of drink, tasted borderline between average and below. Probably right out of the faucet no questions asked. Service got better and better, and was rewarded with that in mind. Black Angus Steakhouse is average anyway you spin it, but the new me says, what is so wrong with average that with a nice discount, a couple can not enjoy? We have had better steaks, Black Angus cows are just ... beef, nothing to delight, but then again, edible after discarding the parts that don't...
Read moreThis is a long time eatery for us. So it's with sadness and trepidation that I write this review. Had plans early Saturday so made reservations for two at 4:30. First server was friendly yet seemed to be rushing us through. Appetizers we're great! Zucchini and chicken. Still being rushed as the restaurant is 3/4 empty the entire time we where there. 2 minutes after appetizers arrive. Wedge salads arrived along with a new server! Who says nothing as he pushes everything forward to get those salads there. By the way this is the same salad we've been ordering for over a year consistently. This was not the wedge salad we've had previously. In short. Lettuce was bitter. Blue cheese was rationed and there was zero crumble. As our original server came by. I mentioned to her politely about the salads that remained in front of us 3/4 uneaten. She very nicely said. "I didn't make those." Not did she offer to fix so I was just oh well in my head. Before the salads were removed the new server arrived with 4 lobster tails and 2 boneless ribeye. All at room temperature. By this time we're on our fourth server and not once we're we asked how is/are we doing. The steak's were so thin and fatty they were transparent and 70% fat and grissel. As for the 4 tiniest lobster tails I've ever seen. Apparently the 'cook* wanted us to taste something so they were inundated with various unnecessary spices. There's more to this sad disappointment but I'm not a cruel person. To wrap it up we we're rushed through a subpar meal 40min. From beginning to end. We did get a soda refill with almost still full sodas without asking or needing. To wrap it up. This is a place we average eating at once a week. I have mega points I'm willing to give away for better service and a referral to a new eatery in our area. Temecula Black Angus. Do better. We shouldn't have to drive to San Diego or Los Angeles for a decent meal. Do...
Read moreI can’t say enough about how amazing Joyce was as our server. From the moment we sat down, she greeted us with such a warm and genuine smile that instantly made us feel comfortable and welcome. She wasn’t just friendly—she went above and beyond to make sure our dining experience was smooth, enjoyable, and personalized. Joyce has the kind of energy that makes you feel like you’re being taken care of by a close friend rather than just a waiter.
What really stood out is how knowledgeable and attentive she was. She didn’t just take our order—she took the time to explain the menu, suggest options, and even helped us find the best deals so we could get the most value out of our meal. That kind of thoughtfulness is rare, and it showed that she truly cares about her guests having the best possible experience. She was quick, efficient, and never once let our drinks go empty or our table feel forgotten, even though the restaurant was busy.
Every interaction we had with Joyce felt genuine. She checked in just enough to make sure we were taken care of but never interrupted our conversation or made us feel rushed. She was patient with our questions, attentive to our needs, and you could tell she really takes pride in her work.
Overall, Joyce made what could have been just another dinner out into something memorable. Friendly, professional, attentive, and proactive—she embodies everything you hope for in great service. I would absolutely come back and request her again, and I’d recommend anyone dining here to do the same. She turned a simple meal into a...
