Since recently indulging in the biscuits and Gravy, I have been enamored. Enthralled. Perhaps even in awe. This dish is my everything, and I yearn for it as I know that I personally cannot perfect it the way the people behind the counters of the ABEC, (who are true purveyors of fine foods), can do. The dish is so simple, yet so exquisite. So humble, yet brash. So recognizable, yet unique.
Starting with components as simple as the biscuits, or even the Gravy itself, the B&G "doesn't miss", as the youth these days like to say.
ABEC takes ingredients so basic and masters their places in the dish, as they dance smoothly en route to tie the entire experience together. While the crunch of the biscuit and the comforting warmth of the gravy are the two sensations I recognize immediately, the robust taste of the ever-so classic snossage is admittedly the first taste that hits my tongue.
Many people with inexperienced palates call snossage "overwhelming" or "overrated", but I say nay. Hand-in-hand with the biscuit and the naughty gravy, these main components eloquently give you that base that makes you think "this is not only the pinnacle of fine dining but also a substantial breakfast that will help me start off my day just right".
In the middle, you get a bit of the bite from the heaven, which gives you reassurance that you eat healthily. Your body is a temple, right? It's ok baby girl today is a cheat day.
That's why you only put the finest foods, such as a dash of Peppa with your brake-fast, into it each morning. Continuing on, towards the tail end of your bite, you get the notes from the Butta, which close your memory of each bite better than the Lakers and Dodgers both winning titles in their respective leagues brought a very grueling 2020 to a close. Consider it a rather majestic ending that could steer the mood of anyone's morning towards more pleasant waters. But wait! That was just one bite! Next thing you know, you must take another.
Then another. Then, before you even know, you are hooked. You can't even stop for a sip of your large Milk while it's ice cold. It's worthy of me weaseling my way into a slot onto the TLC show, "My Strange Addiction". I have never done drugs of any kind, but I imagine that the serotonin release from finishing a B&G at ABEC will be tenfold the release you experience from any other activity.
It is my love, it is my passion, and it is one of many reasons why I keep coming back to Another Broken Egg Cafe and recommend Kierstin Bates for a raise. This girl knows how to work it and I'm not just talking about the scrambled eggs. Her professionalism and attention to detail will just make you say, "give this girl a $100 tip" ... So I said, "don't eat yellow snow" and left her a Hundo. Just wanted to leave you a heads up of the best b-fast place and the...
Read moreI went with my mother for brunch about 3wks after they first opened and will definitely be returning. There was a wait when we arrived, but the hostess couldn't have been friendlier and they had mini muffins and cucumber water complimentary for the guests that were waiting for a table. Unlike the Dallas location, this one does have its liquor license and the drinks are great (beware if you don't like spicy bloody Mary's, theirs are HOT) and fair priced for brunch. Once we got sat our server was wonderful, very attentive and upbeat. Even though they were obviously very busy we never once felt forgotten about. The only complaint was that we both ordered different Benedicts that the eggs were slightly over cooked, but when our server (I wish I could remember her name, she was great and only works 2 days a week) came to check back on us right after dropping off the food and us bringing it to her attention, she immediately took them back and had them fixed. It impressed me that it was obviously a brand new order when we got our corrected plates, even the side had been remade instead of just switching out the egg like some places may have done. The manager came over to speak with us after we got the replacements and was very kind and apologized for the mistake, you could tell he obviously cares about the guests experience. When we finished eating (every single bite!) our server brought the check and informed us that the manager had taken care of both of our meals, that we were only going to be charged for our drinks. Absolutely stunned! I've never had a restaurant go so above and beyond before, I just couldn't believe they would do that. I would absolutely go back to this location again and recommend it to others. Side note: I worked in restaurants for 6yrs, so I'm very picky, this place is...
Read moreLet me start by saying I don't like breakfast. Yes... I know that is blasphemy to some, but it's just never gotten me excited. If someone were to say do you want pancakes or a sandwich, I'd go with a sandwich any day. Coming here has changed that for me!
We went on a Saturday morning and there was a wait so we ended up sitting at the bar ... Best decision ever! Shea the bartender was awesome and really treated us right. I told her it was my first time and she was amazing a got us complimentary beignets! On top of that, she was just a really happy and pleasant person to be around, and nailed my water test with flying colors!
Food and drinks were bomb diggity! Vanilla cold Brew: perfect way to kick your morning off with a little extra oomph! Couldn't even tell it was alcoholic! = Beignets: haven't had beignets for years and they do it well here! Nice and hot and covered in powdered sugar. The marmalade is the key otherwise it'd probably be a carb overload. Crab cake Benedict with a side of the City grits: thinking about this makes me hungry right now. Benedict had great crab flavor and was super fresh, and they didn't skimp on the crab. I don't typically even like grits but the flavor with the bacon and tomato just nailed it and worked really well with the Benedict. Banana fosters pancake: perfect level of banana and nutty flavor! Again, not a pancake guy typically, but I like these!
All in all, I think I now like breakfast a whole lot more thanks to this place. Will...
