Stopped by to try and grab a drink. Bar seating was taken over, by staff members wearing work clothes, so that was not an option. 3/4 of the tables were open, so we went to the host stand to see about getting a seat. We were told that other than the bar, any other seating was for food service only.
I fully understand maximizing tables for bigger checks. That being said, when the bar is full with mostly staff, and the tables are more than 50% available, turning business away for this reason is rude, silly, lazy, and bad for business. Source: someone who would have spent money there and did not. Also, I run restaurants for a living.
Update: thanks for the response. I’m not here to discuss where I work. The fact is I’ve had better service at comparable restaurants, and even chains, and dive bars. Your sarcastic response was about as warm and receptive as your staff was when I visited. I suppose that explains the general malaise everyone seemed to...
Read moreIf I could give this place more than 10 stars, I would! The Gig Shack in Montauk is hands-down one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had — and that’s saying something.
We started with a local greens salad with figs and plums that was fresh, vibrant, and bursting with flavor. The sweet potato, eggplant, and fried leek curry was a rich, comforting masterpiece, and the local sourdough bread with vegan whipped butter was so good we were tempted to ask for a second loaf to take home. Every bite felt both thoughtful and inspired.
The music set the perfect mood, and the entire team was incredibly accommodating to our vegan diet — not just in words, but in execution. The chef and owner personally came out to greet us, making sure we were happy with every part of our meal. That kind of genuine hospitality is rare.
This is a 10/10 restaurant in every way. In fact, if there’s one place in the Hamptons that truly deserves a Michelin star,...
Read moreCame here on 6/30/20 for dinner. Showed up right before they opened at 5pm. Sat right away as a party of 4. We had lobster roll, ribs , chips with guacamole (appetizer), burger, and kids grilled cheese. Chips and guacamole were yummy but for $16, I would have liked more guacamole. Similar to other reviewers, the food was good, but seemed over priced. Nothing that WOWed me, not even sure I’d return. Ribs were good and recommended by our waiter- the meat sure did fall off the bone and I ate every single one. Husband said he’s had better lobster rolls elsewhere. Also- my cornbread that came with the ribs had a small black hair baked into the crust. I didn’t complain, but just would be nice to not see something like that in a meal that cost $38. Ice water was fresh and cold. Nice ambiance! Felt clean there (we sat outside) and the server was...
