We have been coming to the bake shoppe for years for their Quiche and egg sandwiches. We were pleased to see zero line- for the first time ever we didn’t wait outside before being able to order! Yesterday we stopped in and asked for our usual quiche/ coffee etc. They said they didn’t have any that day. We chalked that up to getting by there around 9 and proceeded to order egg sandwiches and coffee. The sandwiches belong more in the Midwest when compared to wonderful famous Long Island egg sandwich you can get at every deli on the island (one note- they only include one egg unless you ask for two). We asked for one with ketchup and one without. As fate would have it the sandwich that didn’t say ketchup on it did in fact have it. A walk back and they made us a new sandwich.
Fast forward to today we got there just before 8 and again we were treated to zero lines and several people waiting attentively to take someone’s order. Again we asked if they had quiche and the woman said no. My wife asked if they ran out or stopped making it. The cashier said the quiche is very popular so they don’t make it that often anymore. In puzzlement I looked at her and she confirmed they kept running out and it’s easier not to make it. Wow. I then ordered an egg sandwich and hot chocolate for my daughter and grabbed a soda for later. The bill came to $14.50!
I guess it’s safe to say we know why we were able to walk right up to the counter. The days of lines and good food are gone, apparently sold 2 years ago. Montauk is dying a quick painful death as the money and everything that comes with it forces its...
Read moreI traveled to Montauk from almost the entire length of the island. All the way there I’m telling my wife and family about how I want to stop at Montauk Bake Shoppe and how I love their donuts. Imagine my surprise when we finally arrive and are treated so badly that I left without buying anything. There is a decent sized group of family members with me when we walk in. There are two workers behind the counter and no other customers in the store. My wife, which happens to be Spanish asks if they have a place to wash her hands. The worker says no and both workers leave my entire family and walk into the back and don’t return for some time. I was talking with my wife about how I wanted this donut or that donut, but there was not an employee to be found. I heard them, but never saw them again. I finally got tired of waiting and took my family to another establishment in town. I don’t know if they treated us so badly, because my wife was Spanish or because they just didn’t want to help anyone that day, but my recommendation is...
Read moreThe counter help doesn’t listen to you when you place your order - forcing you to repeat yourself several times. The counter help also doesn’t know to he menu, so when you order by number they have no clue that the items are. The food packagers don’t confirm they packed your order correctly and therefore you don’t receive what you ordered so when you get home, you have items that aren’t yours and your orders completely messed up. In addition, I found pieces of plastic in my breakfast wrap. Not sure what it was or where it came from. When ordering online, you would think picking up your order would be more timely. However the orders are never fully complete and you still have to wait online to get your...
