Food was good, not great. I wouldn't rush back based on the food, and it’s completely overpriced . Fried calamari was above average crisp and tender. Bottled sweet chili sauce and marinara served on side.
Baked clams were good stuffed whole clams. We also ordered Halibut tacos but not really sure it was halibut but perhaps some flaky fish with a bloodline . Portion was 2 tacos , need a third for the price . Overall good tasting but heavily breaded fried fish nuggets didn't add to the enjoyment of the tacos. Also ordered a cheese burger which was good fresh beef but a much better burger can be had right next door. Fries were frozen, non-descript and unseasoned and can be found in a hundred other restaurants at a cheaper price. Onion soup was very good and it should be for 9 dollars.
Service: we were not greeted upon entering. Two tables in restaurant , half dozen people at bar. Noticed by bartender but left standing mid restaurant wondering should we sit? Not sit? Leave? Finally acknowledged by server things seemed to be going ok. Asked for lime with Pellegrino but none delivered upon second request we received lemons , no big deal , we forged forward. The restaurant began getting busy and service and attention to our table dwindled rapidly. Another server delivered our food without ketchup for the burger and fries. We secured the ketchup by flagging them down a few minutes later. It was at this point that we never saw our waitress again . Well actually we saw her but had zero contact again .
We finished eating and my wife left on an errand for 20 minutes . I told her ill take care of the check and meet you. 20 minutes later she returned all the while we tried to get the attention of anyone to clear and deliver us a check or perhaps a dessert or coffee order? Not happening here. Completely overwhelmed waitstaff . I finally approached another waitress who had no contact with our table and she delivered the check.
I really hate complaining , having spent a good portion of my adult life in the restaurant business , but it’s off season in Montauk and at almost 90 dollars for lunch for three people someone should be on Point, period . You're not gonna turn tables using this method of service nor gain any repeat customers. But then again this is Montauk with few off season options, and a captive audience .The customer’s satisfaction an after thought. A Theme that seems to have taken over this once joyful fishing Village where we vacationed for two decades in...
Read moreWell, I hate to say we cant give a good review, but... I have to be honest. We had gone for a mid-September late lunch. We loved the vibe and decor (the cobalt blue glassware really accents the room along with the subtle details), and I liked that there were some beers you dont see everywhere on the menu.. so, I ordered one. Thank God my wife noticed gold lipstick on the top of my beer glass. The server was apologetic and so was the bartender as he brought me a fresh beer and glass, but how were they washed, I ask?
The server was great as well. We ordered calamari, fish and chips and halibut tacos. I have to say, we loved the calamari. It was perfectly cooked and even the sauces were great. The marinara was very good and the sweet and sour was tangy and very tasty, but..... then things took a tragic turn.
After the Calimari experience and seeing a $26 pricetag for the fish and chips. I had great expectations. Boy was I disappointed. It was clearly frozen. I've had better fish and chips st fast food restaurants. The batter was soggy and so was the fish. Not flaky at all. It seemed as if it was refrozen. The fries were also a little soggy and seemed like they were cooked in old oil. My wife's tacos were also pretty bad. The fish was over-fried and there were very few chunks, plus some of the veggies inside had passed their shelf life.
We didn't have any, but some others seemed to sincerely like their soup if that adds any help.
Even given all this I just can't hate the place. It has some sort of charm. I'd recommend it for a few drinks or more and a stab at some bar food, but can't give it a green...
Read moreREPLY TO ESTABLISHMENT: We were literally the only table there at 7:30 PM, maybe that says something. The “live music” was painful to sit through, and frankly, John’s Drive-In is way better, way cheaper, and actually knows how to treat customers with respect and good service.
You claim fries are $5, but our table was charged $12 EACH for individual sides, not a share size. So which is it? Your pricing is inconsistent and misleading. As for the $12 protein add-on: slapping a “Montauk rent” excuse on it is pathetic. PAY YOUR STAFF fairly without gouging customers to cover your overhead. That’s your responsibility, not ours. Be a better business.
Overpriced, underwhelming, and rude; won’t be back, and I’ll make sure everyone I know avoids this place too.
Tauk at Trails End is an absolute rip-off. $12 for a side of fries? Another $12 just to add protein to a salad? That’s $24 before you’ve even had a real meal. Nothing makes sense on this menu, which, by the way, has zero descriptions, so you’re blindly ordering overpriced food. They charged me $4 for a side of generic Hidden Valley ranch and tried to pass it off as something special. When I tried to return a dish I never even touched, they flat-out refused to take it off the bill. The greed here is unbelievable. I left hungry, annoyed, and with a stomachache. This place is all hype, no quality, and a complete scam....
