We were looking forward to eating here all week due to all the hype on Instagram. My boyfriend and I love cubano sandwiches and have tasted really good sandwiches prior to our visit. Still we wanted to give this an open mind and were excited for our lunch date. When we got here it seemed kind of empty and their were only 3 people working who looked a bit overwhelmed. We were seated by choosing wherever we wanted to sit and was asked if we wanted anything to drink right away. So far it was a good start. They gave us a menu where on one side it said lunch and the other side it said dinner. The menu and the prices were exactly the same, very confusing. Not much of a lunch deal but I was hungry still ready to eat. I ordered a cubano sandwich with a shrimp empanada. I told the waitress 3 times no pickles. She assured me that she understood my request. My boyfriend ordered a Havana sandwich with fries and a chicken empanada. About 5 minutes later all of our food came out. We took the first bite of our sandwiches and couldnāt believe the lack of flavor and how super dry it was. Also, there was pickles all over my sandwich. I was so disappointed. Then I took a bite of the shrimp empanada and it was just so very bland. My boyfriend was disappointed as well. Also his chicken empanada never came out of the kitchen and because we were so unhappy, he didn't even want to try the chicken empanada. We asked for our check 3 times as we were desperate to leave due to disappointment and hunger. Itās unfortunate because this place has potential but it needs better management, staff and chef. Usually, I will go back and give restaurants a second try as maybe they have a bad night but this is not one of those moments. I feel like we wasted our time and hard work money for a meal that was not worth it at all. As someone who is Latin and looking for authentic latin food this is not the place for you. Youāre better off going to the bodega in the Bronx and getting a cubano there with more flavor and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreCan't say enough great things about this family owned restaurant! We were in Tarrytown for the weekend from NYC, to see Sleepy Hollow Lighthouse, Lyndhurst Castle and the new Tappan Zee bridge, and take photos and video footage of the above. Staying at a nearby hotel, we relied on Main Street for sustenance. The Cube inn was a restaurant we decided on last Sunday for dinner, and I'm very happy we did. We got lucky because a previous reservation never showed up. We had none, and were seated outside right away. Our server was friendly in a great way: warm and efficient, never hovering, yet our needs were met perfectly. My husband had Ropa Vieja, which he'd never had before, and it was superb! The seasonings and flavors, and textures were all balanced to perfection. When I commented on how great the dish was to our server, she revealed that her husband was the chef. I had a salmon burger. Also delicious. We shared a salad that was prepared in away where the dressing is just right, not dry, and certainly not soggy. It's one of those little things that are easy to miss, that may tarnish the entire experience. The meticulous way the chef prepared every dish we ordered gets 5 stars from me because I worked as a chef, and I catered events, and understand how fickle palates are. This place delivers the goods! We also had yuca ( cassava) fries, which were crisp ( I hate a soggy fry), and mojitos were well blended and on point, and definitely not watered down. I had mine with crushed strawberries and mint, and it was very well balanced. We had hit and misses with food in Tarrytown, and being a foodie and a former chef from New York City where options are plentiful, you know what you're looking for, yet this restaurant hit the spot across the board. We plan to head back to Tarrytown to photograph foliage season when the colors peak, and this is one place we know, will guarantee a top notch meal! No photos, we were famished, and vacuumed...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhat brought me to The Cube Inn: Social Media Great job - not reflective of my experience.
Perhaps the fact that they named it CUBE INN and not CUBAN makes sense now. Calling it a Cuban restaurant is a mistake.
Nothing about this felt like a Cuban spot worth making the trip for (we drove from NYC).
Why: This was a Saturday night at 8pm and the vibe (country and rock playing) with decor thatās very confusing, the service (lax/ unwelcoming/ slow to the punch).
The food: served at room temperature, rice tastes like minute rice and the ropa vieja is just not right (very tough to chew and just not enjoyable), you failed the smell test. And by that I mean the taste test.
The seating for 2 was limited and the chairs were very uncomfortable. The bartenders took 8 min (I timed it) to even look at us and the drinks we mehā¦
How can you improve: I really want all businesses, especially in a small town like this to succeed.
The flavor (sabor) of the ropa vieja was a 6/10 yet the texture (toughness) made it overall was a 2.
The experience, service, vibe, food, overall gives this spot hard 3/10.
Maybe you bank on brunch bc dinner was nothing to be desired. will give this spot another shot in 1 month for brunch and see how it goes.
The CUBE INN (cute play on words) didnāt do the Cuban culture or food justice in anyway. But all in all we made the best of it. Oh well. $120 bucks...
