I know if I put 1 star this wouldn't show up so I just put 5 stars. If I were to rate it, it would be under 1 star. This place is horrible. The food is decent but the service is worse than any other sushi place. I went to this place around 20 times just because my friends wanted to and the service never changed. Even worse a couple days ago I showed up at 2:24 (they close at 2:30) and I sat down while waiting for 3 of my friends who were parking right in front of this place. The waitress never handed me a menu and just asked me what I wanted to eat, expecting me to know. I said I don't know because I didn't have a menu and she started trash talking me in Chinese to the chef thinking that I don't understand. In addition she got her manager who immediately kicked me out after I received my menu. My friends showed up at 2:26 knowing what they wanted to order but they refused to take our order. I've never wanted to go here but I made exceptions for my friends. Now, I refuse to ever step foot in this place. In addition, considering my ethnic background, I've eaten sushi from all around the world, including all over long island and I still don't understand why many people believe this place has the best sushi. It's decent. If anyone wants topnotch sushi place,...
Read moreThe best Japanese restaurant around. Daruna has a great location and the food is always superb. Don't let the quirky/eclectic decoration of the interior fool you, the sushi, the soups, the Japanese dishes are just fantastic. The owner is a die-hard, hard core Met's fan which is charming. He's personable and always wants to be sure you have a good meal. And the food is terrific! Everything is fresh, everything is prepared with care, and it is by far the best sushi in Great Neck. This is not an Asian fusion restaurant of which there are so many in GN. This is a Japanese sushi restaurant and it is awesome, and it always was. Note: I f you have difficulty climbing stairs you should not drink too much water as the bathrooms are a distance and down a long flight of stairs.
If you haven't been to Daruma you're missing out. Daruma is #1, A+, and ☆☆☆☆☆ (5 stars)...
Read moreHad high hopes for this Japanese rest that was highly recommended by a friend. Firstly, the poor hostess who was also our waitress is amazing. She juggled the whole restaurant herself, with grace and a happy smile on her face , which was impressive, so 5 stars for her. Unfortunately, the menu was truly lacking, the limited choices won’t be attracting me back anytime soon. The spicy tuna was colored quite brightly it was off putting. It did taste good so the bright color wasn’t necessary. Shrimp tempura was ok but our son enjoyed it. Unagi don was overly sweet. Sushi sashimi was again suspiciously bright in color. The ambiance has seen better days...
